        The older- once finished his examination of the boy’s features- took in the pipe’s DAMAGE from a fully viewable standpoint, a sigh slipping from betwixt chapped lips. That thing was definitely completely DECIMATED: a shame. It’d been a good choice in general, even BETTER for Arata because it didn’t require a lot of precise control. They’d been hard at work trying to find things that suit him like that for a LONG time now.

                                                  “…Geez.”

        One hand came up to SCRATCH at his own head, the other to lightly cuff Arata on the back of his.

        He couldn’t retain anger, not in THIS type of situation where his mentee looked SO disheartened. It was difficult to be surrounded by people with such expertise in a subject, more-so when YOU lacked the self-control that THEY didn’t. Yata himself understood that more than most: disappointment in his own lack of restraint was FAR from unfamiliar. 

        The pile of broken and bent weaponry in his room could ATTEST to that.

                          “Well, we can’t do anythin’ about it now…’m gonna go get you one of my extra bats. We’re gonna practice- yer gonna get this down before bed t’night.”

        Vanguard’s own method of lending support- he wouldn’t ALLOW that kind of upset. Anyone else and he’d dish out discipline himself, but the KIDS, ( Arata, Anna ) well…he treated them differently. Punishment could be left up to Kusanagi for later.

PRACTICE. A word that thrilled him and filled him with dread at the same time. Yet, he can’t help but perk up anyway. If Yata thinks he can get it down in a night, then he’ll get it down in a night! No problem there -- and even if he doesn’t, he’ll keep at it until he does. That was the type of DETERMINATION he’d seen within HOMRA. It was something that rekindled hope in his young heart, and something he’d hold onto until his heart beats it’s very last. AND OH, did youth show it’s face tonight. His rekindled passion at his mentor’s words became evident, with how he almost immediately pulled off his mask in order to show off a toothy grin.

         “ Yessir! ” He exclaims, mood brightening from much earlier. The teen’s golden gaze didn’t waver as he looked straight to his mentor, eyes hopeful.

        “ I’ll try and be careful with Mi-nii’s stuff! Promise! ” Despite the way he tries to come off, Arata is still a child - one who looks up to those who have earned his respect. And to be frank, the way HOMRA captured his heart ... there’s no change in that, anytime soon. He’d been completely won over from the moment he made the choice to join; DO GOOD and LIVE A LIFE OF LOVE. HOMRA may be rowdy, but they’re his family now, too - so he has to take care of them just like he’s being taken care of now. He might be weak now, but not forever - not when he has so many people who are counting on him, too !

Name: Hayate ( 颯 ) Age: 29 Occupation: Gang leader.

Hayate is Arata’s oldest brother. He runs a gang solely dedicated to a sort of community service, although he gets a bad rap due to operating at night. Tends to really only clean up graffiti, litter, ect. Arata looks up to him and wants to help out like he does. Hayate tries his best to not tango with the police, but has no problem proving his innocence when necessary. Has a keen sense of morality and can tell when his siblings are lying.

Name: Chika ( 千花 ) Age: 23 Occupation: N/A, currently in college.

Arata’s oldest sister. She has a mean smoking habit and decided to stay at the dorms to make sure her younger siblings don’t pick up her example. She particularly doesn’t like it when people bully her younger siblings, declaring herself as “the only one who can bully her siblings” despite being bullied by Hayate whenever she comes home. Feared by her two youngest siblings, but it’s only because she constantly has a scowl.

Name: Hoshi (  星 ) Age: 20 Occupation: Babysitter.

The second oldest sister! Hoshi is blind in one eye, so she covers it up with her hair. It’s a tad lighter than the other one, so she’s a bit embarrassed by it. She likes children, so she works at a nursery a lot of the time. She also helps around the house, if necessary. Hoshi particularly loves making flower crowns with the children she takes care of. Known as the ‘voice of reason’ within her family.

Name: Kohaku (  琥珀  ) Age: 18 Occupation: Highschool student. Sibling babysitter.

The fourth oldest sibling, as well as Arata’s older brother. A serious student above all else, he’s the one who helps Arata pick up the slack when he notices he’s falling behind. Can be rather strict, and has unusual punishments if his younger siblings bring back less-than-acceptable grade reports. Tends to put holes in walls when angered.

It’s Arata! He’s the 5th sibling and the youngest brother in his family.

Name: Rei (  鈴 ) Age: 10 Occupation: elementary schooler, playground bully.

The baby of the family. Arata and Kohaku are often in charge of her, as well as Hoshi on occasion. Arata picks out her hair ties, which often leads to her wearing hairties with skull motifs. Because she comes from a rowdy family, she has a habit of beating up playmates -- or rather, she’s a terror on the playground in general. Is the most likely to kick someone in the shins if angered.

            “Nah- we get laid. You ever get rug burn on yer junk? That’s what ‘s like.”

            “ ... ” TEMPER APPARENT. He’s gone and raised his foot, just to bring it down on Yata’s toes. God, he wasn’t the smartest kid either - but at least he knew when to NOT keep goin’ like that! Not only that, it’s his bed time and Yata’s keeping him up with THIS? It looks like he might need a time out, since he’s already fed up with the adults tonight.

               “ You’re actin’ like a total weirdo, Mi-nii! Cut it out! ” A HISSY DEMAND. Someone clearly needs a snack.

                     “Aw shit, did nobody ever tell you ‘bout the birds and the bees? Fine, here we go. See, when two dudes like each other or some shit, they get together. Sometimes pants come off but not always ‘cause monkey’s creative. Now y’know.” 

                 “ So, what you’re telling me is that you’re a cuck and so is speccy, because no way can either of you get laid. ” Vulgarity, thy blame can be placed on Misaki. Did he really just get the sex talk from someone who looks like they’ve never even seen a biology text book? He does his homework, he knows what’s up. 

“ Please. Tell Mi-nii he’s not allowed to talk anymore. I’m suffering. ”

🔥 MI-NII.

          SHIT. The moment he was left in charge, the moment bartender stepped out with his list of errands. Really, he didn’t know quite why he was so surprised- this kind of thing should have been par for the course…though that didn’t keep him from spewing a PLETHORA of expletives once standing in the back doorway. 

                                           “What the hell???”

          Once hazel eyes settled on the boy, Yata was in front of him in SECONDS, grasping ( none too gently, yet not too roughly ) the younger’s face between calloused hands, running his thumbs over his eyebrows and scrubbing a closed fist over an area where FIRE hadn’t all burned out. 

               “Dammit- Arata, yer supposed to burn our enemies- not yourself!!”

          Vanguard was all for practicing, developing their powers to be as STRONG and SURE as possible ( it bred a united clan, after all: strengthened bonds and loyalty ), but they definitely weren’t supposed to destroy themselves ( OR the bar, for that matter ) while doing it. Yata too, had learned that lesson- albeit the hard way. He hadn’t been caught by a ‘ Yata-type ’, after all, but Kusanagi himself.

          Cleaning duty for 10,000 years: or at least that was what it’d felt like.

                                 “And y’wrecked your weapon??”

ACK - he wasn’t too fond of having his face grabbed like that, but he sat still anyway. The jig’s up - he mentally remarks, having hoped to hide his little... accident before Yata saw it. Of course, once it’s pointed out, he brings it to full view. Pitifully dented in some places, with a messily broken neck - the other piece quickly kicked behind him as though he were still trying to hide the evidence. He wanted to get stronger - but

HOOKING a finger onto his mask, he lowers it a tad to sound a bit clearer. If the jig’s up, he better come clean. With how Yata’s already cleaning up his face, he knows he won’t hear the end of it for a while. He can’t help it, though - he wants to get stronger, but it seems that if he tries to rush, he only messes up. He can’t help but be a tad jealous -- strength was something that he had to work on, but he always either hurt himself or his surroundings.

         A deep breath -- before he speaks. He knows he won’t be in too much trouble, but he knows he should get ready for some sort of punishment.

                  “ Sorry, Mi-nii. I wanted t’work on my swing, but I just broke it altogether... ” A hissed ‘like a fucking idiot’ escapes him, from under his breath. After he’s made his statement, he lets Yata hold his face still- almost leaning into it, even, if it weren’t for the fact that the other was making sure he didn’t hurt himself.

“ MI-NII ! ” Came the surprised exclamation. Of course, with the sound of a METAL PIPE breaking, someone was bound to check what had happened. Slightly singed eyebrows raised in a silent way of saying ‘uh-oh’, he tries hiding his now broken pipe behind his back. It wasn’t the strongest thing, but it wasn’t easy to break either. Well - it was old, so he wanted to put it to the test -- he guesses that means he should be more careful...? He swears he didn’t break anything else! Though, there is a bit of shame felt anyway - it would’ve lasted longer if he took care of it better.
