A member of BLUF since 2011, in January of 2018 he set up the #Gear365 project, to encourage people around the world to wear their gear more often. Through Gear365 and his tireless promotion of it, Cal inspired many people around the world.

Dear Jeff D’Onofrio,
On December 17, Tumblr will be banning porn from its site.
By banning “adult content” from your website in truth you categorically ban sex workers regardless of how they are using your platform. You cut them off from the ability to build an audience for their work, and what’s even worse, you declare their very existence as obscene.
Tumblr allows every content creator, artist, or small entrepreneur to build an audience and communicate with this audience at any moment in time - if you do not work in the adult industry of course.
Many brands use social media to sell products. Social media and eCommerce are interlocked. You take this now away from every adult content creator around the globe. And that is wrong.
You mentioned in a blog post titled “A better, more positive Tumblr”:
“There is no shortage of sites on the internet that feature adult content. We will leave it to them and focus our efforts on creating the most welcoming environment possible for our community.”
You are wrong: There is a shortage of sites on the internet that feature adult content, in particular when it comes to shadowbanning and the ability to also advertise on these sites.
Look, here is what we do:
Sharesome is a site that welcomes all the people that you just kicked off your platform. You gave them time until December 17th to export a backup of their blog to save their years of work. Meanwhile we will develop an import tool, so they can move to us, and we leave you with all the white supremacist Nazi blogs – because we ban that kind of shit.

Farewell Tumblr
I guess it’s my turn to speak about the new policies that Tumblr is introducing.
As much as I hate to say it, petitions won’t work. We’ve all known for quite some time now that this day would come, especially with the FOSTA/SESTA and Article 13. Tumblr and Verizon’s Oath have made their decision and there’s nothing we can do about it. They will see this site drop in usage. It will become a barren wasteland. Even if they realise their mistake then, it will be too late. The damage will be done.
To the ~3,500 current followers, thank you. I lost the drive to post on tumblr a while back, but you’ve still stuck anround, and a few have even sent messages of appreciation for my (mostly reblogged) content.
This may well be my last post (with the exception of one or two more reblogs “fuck tumblr” posts), and I ask for your help in spreading the message.
If you would like to back up your NSFW/adult content blogs, tumblr provide an export option. Information on how to export your blog using tumblr can be found here.
Alternatively, if you have multiple blogs to export, or would also like to export posts from your likes, I highly recommend TumblThree.
Tumblr, you have shot yourself in the foot, while also crippling many fetish/adult artists. Fuck you.

Like. I’m a firm believer that porn online shouldn’t be within kids reach (those “are you 18” checkboxes for life) but. Like. Ok first of all, just ban cp? It’s not hard? Cp is what got you into this mess just ban it. Second of all, you could increase the age of sign-up from 13 to 18. Third of all, you could do what deviantart does and just. Require birthdays at sign-up. If your blog is flagged as nsfw, you can’t interact with minors. You want to follow an nsfw blog? Prove you’re an adult. You’re an adult but don’t want to see nsfw content? Safe search (that actually works).
It’s not hard to make a functioning website, but staff doesn’t seem to want to do that.

Sly,
I don’t want to believe that you are gone. Although we had only spoken a few times, you touched me in ways that you will never know. You gave so much to your community and everyone has nothing but praise for you and everything you have done. It’s hard to get my head around the fact that we will no longer get to see your face or your amazing work. The world has lost an incredible artist and an amazing person far too soon.
My thoughts are with Alex, as well as all friends and family of Si.
