        BREATHE. IN, OUT, IN OUT… she has to remember to breathe while she does this. She leans against the wall of the hospital, staying in the shade and away from the moonlight, and gradually slides down to a sitting position. The twin blades in her hands are set aside.

          Tomoe raises the hand with her Soul Gem — red, the shape of the sun, held on her wrist by a golden bangle — and places it against her abdomen, where she sustained a fairly large gash from the witch she battled. Breathe, breathe…and gradually the wound closes up, not leaving a single trace behind. Even the fabric of her dress has closed up nicely. With a flash of crimson light, it vanishes from sight, leaving only her black dress and blue cardigan in its place.

          The bangle morphs back into the smaller, egg-shaped gem that fits in the palm of her hand, and Tomoe grimaces when she notes how murky it’s become. I guess closing up that wound really took a toll on it, huh. Well, things would be fine; the witch dropped a Grief Seed, and even if it doesn’t totally clear up her Gem, it’ll at least make it a brighter, safer color.

          So she starts the process. The dark cloud swirling inside the Gem lifts away and transfers to the Grief Seed instead — and the clack of footsteps against pavement distracts Tomoe just as she finishes up. Quickly, she collapses her Soul Gem into its inconspicuous ring form and scrambles to her feet, pocketing the Grief Seed — hopefully before any onlooker can notice it.

          There was definitely a witch close by, and Aya could literally feel it in her soul. It'd been quite a while since the former idol had gone out witch hunting on her own (she usually had a partner or two, after the incident, but that handful of girls had their own business to take care of tonight), but she couldn't always have someone's hand to hold. She knew it wouldn't always be such a walk in the pa--

          Strange... The witch's magic had just up and vanished. She was going the right way, wasn't she? Chisato wouldn't have steered her the wrong way with those teachings, especially considering what was on the line for them all. Someone must've defeated the witch, for the entire aura to disappear that quickly.

          But who...? Aya was certain she knew who was contracted around here. Then again, it'd been an abnormally long amount of time since she'd asked Chisato for those numbers. That was probably before her own wish, actually. There could be more girls in this business now. So she turned the corner to check, using a piece of her navigational magic to dimly illuminate her surroundings. Sure, this is going to give her secret away to people, but those same people were already talking abou--
