Continuing on the path of modelling Sonic robots as a side hobby, I am proud to present my model of "Mecha Sonic MK.I" from Sonic the Hedgehog 2 on the Mega Drive.
Modelling him was partly complicated from a design standpoint, since there already exists a design from SEGA based off the in-game sprites. However, it is severely lacking in many features the original design had (such as the penned homing missile fingers, and the additional reloadable spikes on the back).
As such, I largely chose to base my model off of the conceptual pieces provided by the character's original creator, Yasushi Yamaguchi (often credited under the name of Judy Totoya).
Felt like the January revisions for these characters were missing something - can confidently say now that this will be the general styling for them going forward. These three were completed last night.
Chose not to pursue a full time-capsule 30s look - am instead distilling elements from 30s/40s cartoons I grew up on with other works from my childhood that elicit the same vibe. Pierre Culliford's (more known as Peyo) works in particular helped influence these designs!
With that, the comic I was penning back in Feburary that I showed peeks of on Twitter will remain unpublished - it now conflicts with the general feel and tone I want to achieve with these designs. I'll still be back at the drawing board regarding comics, though.
I will continue to do more of these in the coming days with other existing designs I have, if not make new ones outright.
People literally calling the Public Domain a graveyard have no clue what they're talking about. Without the Public Domain, most of your beloved childhood Disney movies literally would not have been made, because they are literally based on stories that were in the Public Domain.
Please unlearn capitalistic propaganda before you go saying things like "the public domain is the graveyard of ideas". Literally the only people that benefits are giant corporations like Disney who don't want you using the Public Domain like they have been this whole damn time.
