just for the record, this blog does not support the kanye west of 2016 and onward.
this blog is founded upon and dedicated to a snapshot of the kanye that once was:
the kanye that spat in the face of the white elite and taunted them as he stood among them.
the kanye that proved every critic and every naysayer wrong by winning 21 grammys all while being his same old black, vocal self.
the kanye that called out george bush and the mass media on national tv for their racism in hurricane katrina's reporting and government aid.
the kanye that rapped about the prison industrial complex, the war on drugs, the ethics violations in african jewel mines, and white treatment of wealthy colored people who broke the mold.
this blog is inspired by a kanye who no longer exists.
that said:
everyone will talk about him being "in trump's pocket", or call him an uncle tom, or accuse him of just doing all this for attention, but i might be the only person on earth that will tell you to look at his past and think critically about what factors led him here.
it goes without saying that kanye west is mentally ill, and that tormenting and harassing mentally ill people isn't fucking okay.
(obviously, and it's ridiculous that i need to clarify this, there are exceptions to the above for truly evil people, one of whom kanye is not.)
what happened to normalizing and destigmatizing, and getting people the help they need? or does that only matter to you when these people are "on your side"?
would you spit in the face of someone having a panic attack because they said something mean to you or someone else once? would you deny a schizophrenic person the help and support they need because tumblr dot com told you they were shitty online when they were younger?
because then, it's no longer a conversation about supporting people with mental health issues overall. it becomes a conversation about how your "activism" and your support are performative and fickle at best, and that you're only an ally when it serves you and your emotions. this should not be the case.
think about these things beyond the surface level. take care of yourselves and each other.
