Death means something different to all of us. We all have different ideas about how to honour the dead… different ideas of how to grieve, different ways of moving on. “A lot of people who play professional soccer, they win something before this. I never won a Youth World Cup, I was on those youth national teams, but we never won. I didn’t win anything in college, and I’ve never won an NWSL championship…it’s been hard because I probably haven’t honestly won anything really substantial since I was like 12 at the state cup championship.”

“So it was really special to me [to win the Challenge Cup]. I think some other people are probably saying like “oh they’re celebrating so hard, it was just a tournament, blah blah blah…This meant so much to people like me because I honestly haven’t really won anything, and, you know, how do you want us to celebrate? Do you want us to be like ‘oh, we shouldn’t celebrate?’ This is so important to us and we worked so hard for this.
