Are We Free Thinkers?: Prasoon Joshi
Two national and three filmfare awards winner Prasoon Joshi with his gift of writing has often ignited minds and he does it again with his new book.
“The need of the hour is to examine the meanings of tags we bracket and brand ourselves in: leftists, rightists, centrists, atheists, believers, liberals, conservatives…”  these lines from Prasoon Joshi’s freshly launched book “THINKING ALOUD” will put you on ‘Pause’ mode and think deep.
Tumblr media
Prasoon Joshi, Poet Ad legend and the acclaimed author of three books has drawn our attention to the aspects of the Indian social and popular cultures.
Being the leading thinker of the country, the writer has explored the boundaries that paradoxically the so-called free thinkers in India create for themselves, many a time. Which according to him, disengaging and alienating, “Any belief that creates distance from fellow humans is ultimately counterproductive”.
He further goes on to highlight that art should not be accepted or rejected because it comes from some pre-defined segment.
“A truly progressive society is one where any thought or creation ..can flourish for no other reason but its merit”.
He mentions that artists, poets, musicians or creative personalities should be recognized for their creative skills and merit, not because of where they come from.
Apart from this interesting chapter, Prasoon Joshi’s observations make one think and then rethink on a variety of subjects, be it themes of the societal issues or those of women empowerment to those about films and music and connect many dots.
"Thinking Aloud” has to be your next read.

The Uncommon Saga Of A Common Man: Prasoon Joshi
“People watching” has always been my leisure activity, so no exception happened when I started for office today. Everyone is running, chasing their dreams and want to be capsuled in some “beautiful cocoon” far from “lakhon hazarro ki bheed” -, this large segment is often called “Common man or Aam admi”, emerging and vanishing from “God knows where”.
Now, why do I have become so absorbed regarding their narrative?
Perhaps it has to do with the excerpt that I read recently, called ‘The Uncommon saga of the common man” from Prasoon Joshi’s newly launched book “THINKING ALOUD” which is definitely an evoked thought.
Tumblr media
The acclaimed author, adman, screenwriter Prasoon Joshi is well versed in Indian socio-cultural consciousness, cinematic aspects, song writing and the very grain of creativity.
Joshi is also the CEO and the head of an advertising company and a master at communicating and connecting with mass audiences. His observations on stereotyping the ordinary folk are interestingly put across. The fact that the elite tends to bracket the common people as the service class.
Thinking Aloud has also explored the role of cinema which has portrayed a cliched and superficial version of the “Common man”. In celluloid, he is often portrayed as a misfit, crass in manner and speaking in a regional tongue.
Prasoon Joshi has pointed that these reel life narratives need to change soon,” As the society, across strata, starts becoming empowered ,asking questions and becoming confident about individuality, they would want things they choose, not what someone else has chosen for them. They will demand their leadership, their products, their entertainment.”
India is changing. Regional cinema and music are accepted and praised globally, local brands reach the wide range of consumers, people from remote villages and their stories are motivating the marketers.
“Sooner and not so later, the common man will be ready to produce his role model, leaders, marketers, filmmakers.” The author has foreseen emerging India and its future contours.
