Betty couldn't help but let out a soft giggle as she watched Stiles shovel chips into his mouth. If it had been anyone else, the act would probably have grossed her out but she had spent enough time with Stiles to adjust her rigorous standards to his more normal traits.
They had very different majors. Betty knew too much about graphic design now for her own good. She was never artsy but she liked to think she had an eye for things that looked pretty and usually Stiles' designs passed her critiques. Betty was a lawyer student herself, she was hoping to transfer to Harvard ... eventually. It was difficult to get into Harvard Law in general and she was hoping that getting her undergrad at the university would give her an edge.
Stiles seemed to know a lot about the law. She wanted to credit it to his dad being a cop but sometimes his knowledge felt more ... intimate than that.
"Huh?" Betty hummed, letting out a sigh as she put her pencil down. It didn't look like she would be studying anytime soon and she needed a break anyways. The letters were starting to swirl in her vision. "I ... think I saw it on my way back from the airport. Looks fun, I guess?" She shrugged, not seeming particularly interested in it. "I don't know really, I've never been to a carnival before."

Stiles didn't know why this was so hard! It wasn't like it was his first time asking a girl out. It wasn't even his first time asking this particular girl out. Yeah, okay, she said no, but they didn't know each other back then. He was just this weird kid with flowers that she knew nothing about. It was totally fair and he wasn't still nursing that wound....But now they were buddies. Fuck, they were more than buddies, they were friends! They knew each other's coffee order, favorite late night snacks, and unnecessary facts about each others majors because they would quiz each other! He even brought her flowers still! If it was an important day, if she had just taken a big exam, or he knew she was having a rough time with it he'd bring her some along with everything else.
Scott liked to say he was 'quiet courting' Betty, which, okay, fair, he kind of was in a super not creepy way, but Stiles just wanted her to smile. College was hard, he knew that first hand, and he could tell she was having a hard time. It broke his heart because he had already built up this admiration for her from across the hall and he decided then that he'd give her something to smile about. It kept him coming around, kept his dark days feel brighter, and became something he looked forward to.
Like all of last week. It had been Spring Break and as much as he loved seeing his Pops and the pack, well, he missed her. He missed her so much he found himself scrolling her tiktok and insta at 4 in the morning just to see her pretty face. By the time he was flying back to his dorm he had decided enough was enough and that he was going to ask her out.
"C-could you, uh, would you like to-um... p-pass me the chips?"
Pathetic.

Spring Break had been, to put it lightly, a disaster. It was almost as bad as winter break had been but at least for that break, James and his family had decided to go to Cancun. They had stayed in town for whatever reason this time and Betty had been sure that the moment she had exited the airport, there had been eyes staring her down, waiting to see her break. She didn't even care about James anymore ... not really. Well she would probably always care about him and his opinion but she had been looking forward to crashing in her own bed and eating at her favorite restaurants in town during break. She hadn't been looking forward to the pitiful looks sent her way by her neighbors who all knew the story of her heartbreak.
In many ways, she was happy to be back at school. A few more weeks away from her hometown ... and August ... and James. She even had friends at school that had been waiting for her to return! Well ... she had one friend.
Stiles was ... interesting. Her relationship with Stiles would take longer than she had to explain but she enjoyed the friendship. She never had someone seem so interested in her. Not even James showed her this level of care but, no matter how many bouquets of flowers she received, no matter how many compliments she received or how many cups of coffee they shared, she always rejected the notion of them being anything more than friends. He would get bored soon ... right? Everyone always did.
"Hmm?" She hummed, lifting her head up from her textbook. Stiles had just asked for something ... chips! That's what it was. She offered him a smile, nodding before pushing the chip bag closer to the middle so that he could reach for it. "You haven't written anything yet, I really shouldn't be rewarding you with my chips! What happened to studying!?"
