“it’s one of my favorite scenes...I really liked the fact that Cesare hates [Juan] for doing that. You know he asks to use Micheletto in the first place, right? And I didn’t want him to and then there is that scene where Cesare pushes him in the room and says, “Well finish what you started.” There is something about teaching him a lesson and also understanding how hard it must be to do that. There was some sort of really loving brotherly undertone under all of this hard teaching. I really liked that scene.” (x)
“David is a really good swordfighter. He’s been in a lot of period pieces, so I had to work really hard to look as good as him. I have to be a bit better than him in that scene, so I had to really go for it. It was really dangerous at one point, because we use heavy iron swords for filming. They’re not sharp, but if you hit someone’s head with them, they’re going to die. Neil Jordan [the show’s creator] at one point stopped us and said, “Okay, I just don’t want you to kill each other.” He was really scared. [laughs]” (x)
