THE CHAOS THAT WAS SHIBUYA is now all but replaced by an eerie calm, the empty silence after a calamity ( after an apocalypse ). he’s alert again after ieiri - san had spent more than enough time tending to his injuries, though far from 100% — he thinks it’s adrenaline that propels him forward, find itadori reverberating around his skull. it has to be louder than every other thought clawing apart the seams of his mind, about dying, about kugisaki, about gojo, about —
❝ ⸻ !! ❞
a potentially unwelcome familiar voice startles him, a jumper cable to his heart that pulls him back again from the brink. he faces the source, sees him, staring him down with an expression he can’t read.
not zen’in, huh ?
he’s a ghost.
he sure is ; because megumi saw him die. but he supposes he was supposed to die, too. for all of the batshit crazy things that happen to megumi, who this man really is still remains the last person he would possibly consider.
❝ ⸻ you, ❞ he finally answers in kind, warily. he doesn’t know what the hell this guy could want with him, but he’s not going to fall into any kind of sense of security that he’s not just going to attack again, regardless of how their last fight ended. megumi thinks that maybe he has a little more cursed energy in his tank by now than when they last fought, but there’s no guarantee it would be enough, and he doesn’t really have time or patience to fight. so, he gets down to the heart of the matter.

his mind, body and soul have stitched themselves so intricately into the vessel he possessed, it's as if no other soul had previously inhabited it. he was stronger now, his dominion near - completion, despite his intention to depart this world once again. he had wandered in search of something. someone. @penumbraal. his son. not zen'in. not zen'in. thank god. the thoughts usher in, distorted, a jumbled slew of words seeking a voice. how many hours pass him by, as he ambles aimlessly about shibuya, he doesn't know. he doesn't care, when he finds him at last. “ you. ”

HE REALIZES QUICKLY, INFURIATINGLY, that he's invited this. still, normal people wouldn't blame his suspicion, and all roads lead to this, one way or another. ( harassment — though that might be a little dramatic. )
a bookmark shoved into place ; and megumi's book snaps shut. of course, he's not gullible enough to think that gojo would do anything of the sort — not until he sees said girl with his own eyes, anyway — but he still throws him an unimpressed look.
❝ because you find bugging me funnier than anyone, ❞ he answers bluntly ; for good measure, adds, ❝ not my dad. ❞ now, he sighs, finally stands up, acknowledging he's likely not going to get any more reading done today. ❝ fine. what is it, then ? ❞
A SOFT POUT FORMS ON HIS LIPS.
there's bemusement that rings true in the cerulean eyes though that are still hidden behind his sunglasses. truthfully, he's doing nothing –– there is no schemes rolling around in his head, but it's so much more fun to make megumi think there's something going on. in reality, he had been just about to invite him out to lunch.
this however, presents an opportunity that he wants to take advantage of it.
〝 now why are you being like that? just because i asked a girl out for you & arranged a marriage is no reason to act like i have schemes going for me, megumi. is that any way to speak to your father? 〞 that grin stretches across his lips again, shows teeth –– he lives for sinking underneath the other's skin.

ANYONE WELL - VERSED IN FUSHIGURO - ISMS would detect megumi's telltale signs of genuine irritation — the minute way his right eye twitches, the tension in his temple. if his eyes burn cold, it's real anger. if his brows knit not - too - tight, paired with a frown and bemusement in his eyes, you have a few more buttons available to push.
megumi himself hasn't realized his own tells — but his face is currently reflecting the latter, still has some patience left.

⸻ ONE WOULD REALLY NOT BELIEVE how often he's heard that one before. to say it really does turn out well each time would be rather generous, at that. megumi would be more inclined to say that it turns out fine enough ; and that's not because he doesn't trust that things will be all right so long as gojo's there. call him naive for putting so much faith in any adult, but when satoru gojo tells him leave it to me, megumi knows from experience that he can.
the real source of his skepticism is that there will almost always be a series of high - stress situations ( granted, that are only stressful to megumi himself ) that will surely turn megumi's hair the same color as gojo's before he graduates. to be fair to gojo, stressing megumi fushiguro out really is not a difficult talent to possess.
❝ i already don't, ❞ he states, flatly, working to match gojo's stride, ❝ and every time you feel the need to say that, it makes me believe it even less. i thought you were going to stay in the car. ❞

as bluntly as he speaks, megumi doesn't mean to come off as doubtful by any means. he thinks he knows better than anyone that itadori isn't wrong. itadori is strong enough for anything. still, megumi thinks that if he allows himself to take that fact for granted, the ba dump ! that keeps time in the back of his mind, that still - beating heart in the grasp of sukuna’s sharp claws, would only double in volume until he hears nothing else.
he likes to think he knows itadori well by now ; thinks he can see through the confident grin about as well as he can tell when gojo’s own is a little less annoying than usual ; when he can tell that itadori is thinking of the lives he couldn’t save, when he can tell that suguru geto’s specter has recently haunted the school grounds.
for as much as itadori tries to take everything in stride, megumi still knows how he suffers. and, for as much as he will never regret saving him, there remains a part of him still cognizant of the fact that his choice to save him has enabled itadori’s suffering.
❝ what i mean is … not even the strongest is strong all the time. you know ? so just … don’t do anything stupid. ❞

he sighs out his nose, petulant, arms crossed. the advantage to knowing megumi fushiguro is that eventually, it's easier to see that he's not really as irate as he sounds. the disadvantage to megumi fushiguro being known is that it only means one can get away with pushing his buttons for a little longer.

⸻ GOOD GRIEF. adrenaline surges and fades as quickly as it came as he realizes he's no longer alone, though the way his brow ever so slightly knits together, tension in his temple, are all that betrays he was ever even startled in the first place.
right, this is the guy that's taken to calling himself itadori's older brother. he doesn't know what that's about, but nor will he bother to ask. he's long since accepted that things are just weird when it comes to itadori.
