all at once, a surge of relief hits them: weight off of their shoulders, the tension bleeds out of kida’s body the second amir comes to an agreement with them. when it came to the up’s & down’s they had over the years, it never felt this severe — even their worst public altercations couldn’t hold a candle to an all day fight & a damn near severe break — but as conflicting as their personalities could be, kida needed amir just as much as they needed him. it felt good to actually laugh at the things he was saying to them now, rather than fight on the defense. “keep it the fuck up, i’ll ignore you right now.” manicured fingers jab lightly against his forehead, an exaggerated roll of their eyes to follow as they pull him in for a hug. “thank you. i will work on my availability…and being there…and trying not to let my gemini ass snap on you when you get to acting stupid with me. what you doing later?”

snorting through her embarrassment, she let her lips purse at jaira's response. truth be told, janae's criminal history always came down to common sense, or lack thereof. anyone in their right mind would have noticed the red flags and acted accordingly, but in her case, she'll always chose to go with the flow instead. " i mean he was cool back then, i wasn't thinking he was gonna' be a snitch or nothin...he used to look out for me. " with vulnerability lacing her tone, she feels her cheeks heat up at the returning thought of betrayal. " —and i was NOT fucking him. at least not this time... this was strictly business ! i'm all about stacking my money and getting out the way now. " at least that was the plan. shaking her head at how quickly she caves, janae scrapes at the clean plate again to fill the awkwardness quickly rushing over her. "you show up on my doorstep after radio silence, make you a plate because you were in jail, and you're telling me you thought you could sugarcoat this shit with me? get the fuck on." to anyone that didn't know her, jaira's words probably sounded accusatory. and somewhere along the lines of threatening. really, the undead woman was gagged (and mildly entertained) that janae was still alive after all of her incidents. it was like scripted television, but real. she waves her hand, giving janae the floor. quickly, it was a regrettable decision; she could barely keep up. "—you thought making 'quick money' with a guy you used to do shrooms with was smart?" if jaira carried that line of thinking, she would've gone bankrupt as soon as cocaine hit the 70s. she didn't even know people still did shrooms. but rather than continuing to interrupt, jaira kept her lips pressed tight, waiting until she was certain that janae was finished with her recap before giving up her thoughts. "janae...there's no way you let the shrooms guy talk you into trafficking and think he wasn't going to sell you out. — were you fucking him?" and no, she would not have helped had janae called her.

taking in kida's words with a grin, he shifts his attention into a daze as they finish their sentence. amir could count the few real friendships he's ever had on one hand, solely off the fact that he wasn't the easiest person to deal with, let alone be around more than absolutely necessary. this bond that they share was special to him and the thought of almost sabotaging it over his personal insecurities and pure selfishness was definitely a close call. a scary one. " yes, i GUESS we cool now. until you start ignoring me again, then you might be back on the ain't shit list. " with a chuckle, he let his teeth show with a beaming grin. " in all seriousness though, you my dawg and i promise imma' work on my communication skills a little more. for now i'm gonna blame it on the fact that i'm just an aquarius; i was set up from the get-go. "

if kida had been a younger, less mature version of themselves, then the argument & subliminals they’ve just thrown at each other likely would’ve resulted in the end of their friendship — at least, for the next few weeks until one of them decided to be the bigger person and make amends with a fast food order & a few blunts. but perspective gave them the ability to understand that this was bigger than their annoyance or hurt feelings towards how amir came at them, and they were quiet for the entire time amir spoke his feelings out into the open. “i know that. and i know i’m not always available for shit like you want me to be, but i’m tryin’. you can snatch me up whenever, as long as you fuckin’ honest with me about how you feel instead of holdin’ it against me when shit gets fucked up. — now are we cool? you not gon’ tell me i ain’t shit no more?”

" she's only half kidding about the last part, but her friend being a vampire always stayed in the back of her mind for emergency threats.

her brows scrunch together, pulling a face at the audacity janae had to even think she wanted the same condensed version of a story normally given to strangers & family members instead. "do i look like i don't want to know what the hell actually happened?" jai's complaints served with a look of incredulity, the woman tucks her chin into her palm as she prepares for whatever bullshit was about to be thrown her way. "no, i probably won't because you're fucking insane. tell me anyway."
