Most romantic winery in Paso? 💐 Sneak a kiss at @villasanjuliette + feast your eyes, palate + soul upon the dreamy views, highly acclaimed wines + gourmet offerings (you can even have your wedding here ❤). Look around, the landscape, large fountain⛲+ pergola, rolling verdant lawns with forever views of vineyards + countryside have a distinct fairy-tale quality that is clearly @villasanjuliette No wonder, this most romantic winery was named after Shakespeare’s “Romeo and Juliet,” which takes place in Verona, Italy. @villasanjuliette was designed to reflect the romance of the property including Romeo + Juliet style balconies + towering cypress trees lining the road to the villa. It’s a place where the owners, visionaries - co-creators + executive producers of “So You Think You Can Dance” + “American Idol”, - would imagine planting the seeds of their fantastic fantasy. It’s the perfect place to visit + feel like you’ve escaped to Tuscany, Italy. And like all Italians, the winery chef believes that wine + food paired together is one of the great joys in life. It’s quite the experience to pair hand-crafted plates from the kitchen (gorgeous lunch) with their diverse wine selections. You’ll sip on their 130 acre estate grown Bordeaux + Rhone-style world-class wines🍷that are coveted by acclaimed wine critics such as Josh Raynolds of @vinousmedia - I’m a big fan + I think you’ll be one too. So what’s @villasanjuliette "wine" all about? Winemaker Dan Smith is the man, he’s been fine tuning his craft in top wine regions worldwide following his Wine + Viticulture stint at highly regarded Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo. Yah, he knows his stuff + speaking of a dynamo, he has that je ne sais quoi winemaking magic that achieves balance + complexity while highlighting the spirit + natural character of the fruit…think of that spellbinding terroir. Beautiful wines are made in small lots with meticulous care in aged French + American barrels. Blending is completed with vigilance throughout the aging process to fully integrate the flavors for fully cohesive, elegant wines. And there you have it, YES PLEASE! Your seat awaits you.❤️ (at Villa San Juliette Winery) https://www.instagram.com/p/CrdriNSrTpl/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Perched along a stunning coastal hillside @harmonycellars overlooks the quaint hamlet of Harmony, CA, with vineyards that aren’t visible from this famous viewpoint. In fact, a high magnesium content in the soil make for not-so suitable growing conditions 😔. But fear not, dear friends 😃! This situation suits winemaker/owner Chuck just fine. Untethered by a single estate, Chuck is able to offer a diverse selection of wines, all of which are crafted in Harmony for your sensory enjoyment. Head to the tasting room + sample iconic wines sourced from stellar fruit grown along the Central Coast from Monterey to Santa Margarita in the south. When paired with Harmony Cellars’ epic views, the whole package comes together. Some might say it’s a perfect blend. Located on the coast between Cambria + Cayucos (25 min from Paso) + it’s a fave getaway for locals + visitors alike that takes you driving on stunning Hwy 46 West to the quaint, artisan town of Harmony (pop 18!) off scenic Hwy 1. It’s one of the smallest towns established in 1872 around a dairy that produced milk + cheese. As the only winery in town, @harmonycellars tasting room has the advantage of being situated on the hill overlooking the tiny town with views of the coastal countryside. Kim + Chuck Mulligan, started the winery in 1989, no surprise, as wine runs thick in her blood. Her great-grandfather, Giacomo Barlogio, a founder of the old creamery cooperative, used to make wine in his basement - exactly what we expect from an Italian. 4 generations later, the winery sits on the family’s original landholdings. After savoring their wines while lounging on the lawn that overlooks the coastal rolling hills + happy grazing cows, we love going for a hike along the water at Harmony Headlands State Park on Hwy 1 south of the winery. Guaranteed, you'll come away with a cheery smile, sparkling memories + happy lungs revived by the fresh ocean air. This is one to repeat time after time. Wine Pick: Grandpa Barlogio Zin Special anniversary label is a tribute to owner Kim’s great grandfather, the founder of the Harmony Valley Creamery. This is a jammy Zin with intense flavors of raspberry, boysenberry + cranberry. (at Harmony Cellars) https://www.instagram.com/p/Cq53M2IJK-o/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

An AMERICAN WINE LEGEND of the WORLD as chosen by @wineenthusiast in 2020? Tah-dah! Gary Eberle of @eberleboar! Watch the riveting video about Gary, link in bio. This iconic figure in Paso’s wine industry, does it again! His 2022 Côtes-du-Rôbles Rosé Grenache was awarded Best in Class + Gold at the San Diego International Wine + Spirits Challenge, just in time for Easter! Cheers to talented winemaker, Chris Eberle, too. No surprise, Eberle’s Rosé is refreshingly vibrant + captures one's palate with the first sip. Hints of papaya, dragon fruit, + a touch of passion fruit engulf your palate. The Rosé is refreshingly vibrant with bright acidity + a lingering fruit finish. Food Pairings: The bright acidity and fresh fruit flavors of the Eberle Rosé make this a remarkable pairing partner with a light salad, roasted shrimp risotto, wood plank smoked salmon, smoked salmon on a toasted bagel with cream cheese and caper or brie cheese. It is also beguiling with sorbet. BONUS: For 50% off a “by the glass of wine” COUPON + a 15% off purchases of wine + merchandise COUPON - “COUPON” link in bio. Fascinating background: Gary Eberle is hands-down considered the ‘pioneer’ of Paso Wine Country that began back in the day at LSU following his 4 yrs at UCLA. Mateus was the ‘chi chi’ wine of choice for the average cultured person + the empty bottle made a fine candleholder. One night at a dinner party he was introduced to a 1966 Château Latour by a professor. The wine so moved him that he had an epiphany, + realized he wanted to be a winemaker, not a geneticist. He quickly headed off to UC Davis + was accepted into the doctoral program in the enology dept. From the beginning, Eberle has been known for his knowledge, hard work, quality + vision. His career is a succession of firsts, including the 1st to build wine caves in Paso. Most days you’ll find him outside the tasting room with a glass of wine + in the company his standard poodle. He’s a gregarious soul + is a colorful storyteller whom you’ll want to meet. I raise my glass to the Eberle’s + hope that you get the chance to visit them + take a tour of their 16,000 feet of caves. The Prince of Pinot Noir in Paso, is Marc Goldberg, alongside his wife, Maggie D’Ambrosia. Quite the pivot for 2 talents who were hospital administrators + now trendsetters starting in 1989 when they thrust their pinot scepter into our Wine Country.( At that time there were only 12 wineries in Paso!) Fascinatingly, The Pinot Prince was initially discouraged about planting the variety with some noting that it was far too hot for pinot noir in Paso. But he discovered a hidden gem, a pinot noir vineyard planted at Hoffman Mountain Ranch (now Daou) in the 1960s by former Beverly Hills cardiologist Dr. Hoffman + his consultant, the famed Andre Tchelistchef. When Marc tasted their pinot noir he was swept off his feet, confirming his decision to exclusively plant this noble variety. Why Pinot? In the 1980’s, while traveling through Burgundy, France, there was a seminal moment when Marc was bitten by the pinot noir bug. Born was his vision to make a ‘great American Burgundian style wine’. To that end, Marc + Maggie scoured wine country + in 1989 found their shangri-la, in Paso Robles Wine Country on beautiful, rolling hills off Hwy 46 west, close to Hwy 101. It was a 26-acre barley farm with a barn. The site’s acres of well-drained, rocky calcareous soil, + location in the maritime-influenced “Templeton Gap” (a breach in north-south facing Santa Lucia Mountain chain) is ideal for Pinot Noir. (The property was previously a rhododendron farm chosen for its cool climate.) Accordingly, the cool ocean breezes pass through the mountain range + cool down the grapes with a 50 degree swing of temperature. In 1990 15 acres of Pinot Noir was planted under the direction of infamous Wild Horse winemaker, Kenneth Volk with 4 Pinot clonal selections: HMR, Adelsheim (Oregon), Bien Nacido, + Sanford & Benedict. Proudly displayed on Windward’s label is the french word “Monopole” signifying the sole ownership of the vineyard + the crafting of his wines made exclusively from “their” specific vineyard. The term also eliminates any possibility that other varieties of grapes are included in the wine as can be the case with some “Estate Grown” wines. Is Pinot your thing? An upcoming wine legend is in the making at @absolutioncellars. Mark our words. @absolutioncellars Tasting Lounge is waterside where adorable sea otters, barking sea lions + fishing boats in picturesque Morro Bay will add to the unique experience of geeking out over storied wines with owner + niche winemaker, Dirk Neumann! Meet Dirk, who is typically pouring for you! You’ll enjoy a sit-down indoor or outdoor wine tasting on the Embarcadero + sip on his limited production, hand-crafted, single-vineyard, single-variety, world-class wines. Bonus, every wine features captivating artwork by Aja Trier + each wine has a beguiling story behind it. Take for example his albariño. Before foraying into crafting a wine from this coveted variety, he put a post on a Facebook winemaker’s group asking for tips, i.e., must do’s, must don’ts. Incredibly, winemakers from all over the world responded, including Spanish & Portugese (where the grape originated), sending him their entire protocols from growing the grapes, harvesting, crafting the wine, to bottling it. @absolutioncellars 2021 Albariño from Pierce Ranch Vineyard, combines beautiful minerality + acidity with wonderful notes of tropical + stone fruits for a crisp + refreshing wine. Versatile + food-friendly, it stands up to spicy dishes + complements seafood + poultry, or enjoy it on its own. Another crowd-pleaser is his 2019 Syrah. This stunning wine comes from cuttings gifted by a 16th-generation family from the Hermitage A.O.C. in Northern Rhone. A gorgeous hue of blood red ruby, in the mouth, tart Bing cherry, boysenberry, smoked cedar plank, figs, cocoa caramel + earthy minerality reflecting the limestone + granite soils of the vineyard, with a long finish. Already drinking nicely now, but built to last. Pair with lamb, Osso Bucco, lasagna or duck. You’ll also be blown away by his 5 Pinot Noirs, Tempranillo, Zin, Cab Sauv, Cab Franc, Grenache, Red blends, Rosés, Trebbiano, Clairette Blanche + Marsanne/Roussanne blend. @absolutioncellars open Thur-Tue 12-6 Make a reservation (walk-ins welcome, space permitting). Private tastings avail by appt. To reserve call 805.242.6362, or go to [email protected] (at Absolution Cellars) https://www.instagram.com/p/CplZhF9pxEo/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Bucket list y'all - @LoneMadroneWines! Co-owner + head winemaker, Neil Collins, is known as one of the most talented + adventurous wine makers in CA + twice was anointed by his winery colleagues “Wine Industry Person of the Year” (Winemaker of the Year, kinda like making the 5-Timers Club on Sat Night Live) - If the fruit is exceptional, he will take even the lesser known varieties that are grown on the westside of Paso, far from their native regions + turn them into fine wines (something you’ll never find in store-bought wines). He is fearless + creative as is his talented son Jordan, his mentee. Neil’s obsession goes beyond the wine; it goes to the vineyard, to the soil, to those vines that are grown in well-cared for vineyards. It's as if he's in the room but his feet are walking through the vines. This is a common occurrence. When Neil sees bottles, he sees vineyards. And when he sees vineyards, he sees farmers, which he deems to be “ the true badasses” behind it all. To pass muster vineyards must be organic or sustainably farmed by people Neil would want to invite into his home + break bread with, no compromises on this. "We're working with vineyards that we absolutely love + our goal is to continue to work to do a few things very well. I have a very distinct idea of what I want to make + it is not the big, typical Paso wines that have become popular. We want to offer something a little more graceful. We want to make what we, as a family, reach for when we sit down to have dinner“ says Neil. Amen. An unforgettable experience to reserve is their Pinnacle Tastings. It is a limited seating winetasting adventure led by your personal wine steward that is interactive + will expand your knowledge of the Collins family originally from Bristol, England + the unique, sustainable, boutique vineyards from which they source their wines. BONUS: Stay at their guest house perched on the hill above the winery, with incredible views across the landscape of wine country. (3 bedrooms, 2 baths, replete with a pool table + barbeque!) DOUBLE BONUS: Enjoy amazing farm to table cuisine lunches from Kitchen 46 by Chef Jeffrey Scott on Fri-Sun 11-3pm at @lonemadronewines (at Lone Madrone) https://www.instagram.com/p/CpbA0j7JxNx/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

No fun adventure to Paso Robles Wine Country is complete without visiting @chroniccellars. We’d say that Chronic has some of the happiest, irreverent (in the BEST way), enthusiastic wine followers on earth who use descriptors such as fun, hip, witty + edgy to describe the atmosphere + their wines that exude adventurous flavor profiles. (Get ready to sip choice wines, play games + shop in their irresistibly, natty boutique...Chronic Cellars is epic!) Top this off with not one, not two, but three of @chroniccellars wines receiving 90+ points from @wineenthusiast. Celebrate by picking up a bottle of Sir Real (LOL "surreal"), Suite Petite, or Purple Paradise + make your Christmas seriously chronic. Thumbs up to the founders Josh + Jake, the sons of the Becketts, who were the passionate founders of iconic @peachycanyon Winery in Paso. The 2 bros were raised in the heart of Paso Robles Wine County + grew up with chores such as washing barrels, punching down fermenting grapes + working the bottling line (good job mom + dad!). Yelp Review sums it up nicely: "The decor is vivid, the wines are delicious, + the property is fun, with games outside (pool table, bocce ball, corn hole) + a nice spot for a picnic. They even allowed us to bring our dog in with us to taste. (We tasted the wine...no one tasted the dog)." Wine Pick - 91pts + Editor's Choice, Wine Enthusiast (2020 Vintage): 2020 Purple Paradise, couldn’t we all use a little paradise in our lives? 70% Zinfandel, 16% Petite Sirah, 10% Syrah, 4% Grenache - an intriguing blend that uses only the best - or ‘chronic’ grapes. Pull up a comfy hammock + catch a lucky break with Purple Paradise. He reminds you to just roll with it + never say no to a fun getaway. You’ll paint your paradise purple with this Zinfandel-dominated blend that rolls out with jammy blackberry fruit, cherry cola, + the loveliest whispers of mocha + lavender. Alluringly deep + dark in color, the wine paints the perfect landscape for balanced acidity + mild tannins that floats on to a blissful finish. An incredible value at $14.99. For a virtual tour of Chronic Cellars text "Chronic" to 805-800-8614 - Cheers! (at Chronic Cellars) https://www.instagram.com/p/CmHhdedv_D0/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

It’s freakintastic 💥- No surprise, the original wine rebel + iconic winemaker, Christian Tietje, is riding high at @anarchywineco at the entrance of Tin City! Obsessed with extreme winemaking, he takes it to a whole new level-fully exploring the hidden characteristics of pure varietals + creating blends that obliterate the rules of convention. His “big ass wines” land euphorically on the palate with curated balance + reflect his escape from the conventional, to take you down roads others are too cautious to travel, finding perfection that is unconfined by rules. “..its been a real creative wave for a lot of blends that I had been sculpting in my head for a while now”. That wave has burst onto the scene to the exaltation of wine lovers, with faves such as “Heretic” + flagship “Anarchy” (Zinfandel, Mourvdre + Syrah blend), says Christian. And as you’d expect there’s no frou-frou here at @anarchywineco – It’s pure awesomeness…expect fine rock music blasting in the tasting room, 🔥 flaming red light fixtures hanging from the raw ceiling + an antique silver wardrobe whose mirrored doors swing open to the winery. Wild boy, winemaker + owner, Christian, is blowing up his hood, just outside of Tin City off Hwy 101…a lotta cool ‘sapnen here. Makes sense, he IS the ORIGINAL WINE REBEL. In the Paso wine scene, he has been crafting wine that no one has ever seen, including kicking off a series of boundry-pushing labels that he lovingly refers to as The Freakshow. Grab ‘em while you can, cuz he is selling out + his wine club, no surprise, is burgeoning. You might just think about joining his wine club (seriously + it’s free to join)! If this sounds like your thing, then you sound like their kind of people. Ride the wave with @anarchywineco located in the winery enclave shared with other talent such as @sevenoxen (another fave of mine). They are all part of a generation of concentrated exploration who are trailblazing a path of notable innovation that is pushing the limits with panache. “The most important kind of freedom is to be what you really are” -Jim Morrison Dog-friendly, people-friendly too!
