"I'll live," he told her, dodging the question. He wasn't about to let her know anything if possible. The little pot of creamer was set in front of her as well.
"Will you be staying long?"
The sugar bowl was set out for her and he turned away to pour cream into the little jug. "Are you hungry?" he asked in surprise.
Maybe she had refused out of politeness and now was comfortable enough to ask directly. Maybe she just wanted to jerk him around. He could see her eyes trying to meet his, and he looked away, out of the kitchen window. There wasn't enough room to host her in the dining room while he was still moving his property around.
"I have... pork and potatoes," he offered lamely, watching the dogs romp in the backyard

Who sticks out as being an early positive influence in your life?
My tutor, Herr Vogt was the first. I wasn't close to any of my siblings at the time and he stepped in to teach me so much. He instilled a good sense of Lutheran duty which I suppose I still struggle with. I can't sit still for long, I feel guilty about not doing something productive.
Then my family, of course. Resi and Roderich were wonderfully kind and welcoming.
Empress Augusta and Otto von Bismark, they stood by me no matter what and encouraged me to attend university. They had the most faith in me, even if they didn't get along

What are your current priorities in this season of your life, and why?
I'm trying to focus on my university degree. It's a shame that I'm the only one in my extended family who doesn't have one and I can't keep putting it off. Plus I need to ensure I can provide for Matthew no matter what, so I'm having to find a good business to ensure he's making money as well
Plus my psychologist is telling me that he'll be gone soon and won't be able to help with my PTSD and I need to get it sorted out before then because I only get along well with him. He doesn't judge when I make terrible jokes about bad things that happened to me.
So. I'm focused on being a good man. And husband. And father. And wondering how to tell Matt that I want to eat a vial of poison to give me a chance to sleep without a nightmare.

What's the most boys being boys thing you've ever seen?
I was in Bavaria last month, and despite the weather, there was a gang of youths in lederhosen and fancy shirts, and one of them wasn't wearing shoes.
The boys all shouted, "OOOOOOOOOOOO OI!" and the boy with no shoes kicked a football which had a string tied to the cap of a beer bottle, and when the cap came off, they started chanting, "Prost prost, prrrrrrrrrrrooooooost!"
Other than that, I would say the boys in the village I grew up in tricking the priest into eating a cattail
