After the interview
After the interview, I’m actually happy to say that there are no big issues that my barangay is encountering. However, I do understand why some areas are prone to flood due to the garbage not being collected properly and not being cleaned up. This causes a problem since it blocks the drainage, thus, the water has difficulty flowing. Other than blocking the drainage, some areas are simply low compared to other areas, this makes the people who lived there vulnerable to flood.
We can help address this by starting off with ourselves, throwing all our garbage to proper places and not littering. Not only are we helping the garbage collector, but we are also helping ourselves and our environment. Also having a proper system, especially in waste management, will be a great development for this will help reduce the disaster of having great flood that occurs whenever a storm comes.

Hazards, Safe Zones, and Practices
Hazards:
Based on my interview with a barangay official, they told me that there are no other hazards ever since the creek and river drive was created for they prevent the water from overflowing due to its tall walls, and the continuous collecting of garbage around the city. Thus, the flood doesn’t occur anymore.
Safe Zones:
Kagawad Miguel told us that the safe zones that were used are mostly all basketball courts and other vacant spaces. This is where they evacuate all affected individuals and are immediately taken care of by providing food, water, and shelter.

Practices:
As the official mentioned during our interview, they do random drills to let the community practice when a disaster happens. The tanod also administers a program where there is a seminar every three months in regard to risk and disaster. Unfortunately, we weren’t able to take a picture since there was no seminar at that time.

Barangay Pamplona Dos
Based on my interview with our Barangay in Pamplona Dos, Las Pinas. The community is aware of the situation when disaster comes, especially where to evacuate when it happens. Miguel, a barangay official, explained how flood and storm are the most common disaster calamity compared to fire and earthquake that affects the area. Although fire and earthquakes rarely happen in Las Pinas, they always have a signal whenever there’s an incoming earthquake and was said that every barangay has one.
He also mentioned that it used to flood in some areas and it affects the people that lived there since the area was low, thus, flood always occurs and it damages their house. At this time, they always evacuate the people in every basketball court. Ever since the creek and river drive was built by Villar, the flood doesn’t occur anymore like it used to, as Miguel said, “Yung mga tubig, madaling mawala”. Building the creek and river drive has tall walls that prevent the water from coming out. Unfortunately, if there are a storm and high tide, there’s still a chance to flood due to the sudden increase of water.
They are also prepared and they coordinate with the operation from the friendship center in Municipal to know what they had to do and what they need so the Municipal can send them the items needed. Miguel added how every president of the homeowner is always provided with rescue items and there’s also a training seminar about risk and disaster that always occurs every 3 months by the tanod officials.
They also have a program where the garbage must be placed accordingly and not be thrown around. The remaining food that they called kaning baboy, the bioman, the one who gets it, they are the one who makes it into fertilizer. There’s also clean up drive every Saturday to ensure that the flow of the water is smooth and that there’s no garbage floating around at the creek until the end of the river drive to remain its cleanliness.
In regards to earthquakes, Miguel mentioned how all of the items were prepared and they always have a drill to practice the safety of the people. All of the officials must learn as well and when there’s a seminar about disasters, they are required to have a drill at least once a month.
When disaster comes, the rescue items were out and prepared. He said that was the first thing they always do and they are mostly focusing on the places that are more likely to be affected when that disaster hits the area. All communication like radio is always complete.
