Writer and editor. Book lover. Feminist. Wrote for video games for awhile. “The future was cloudy, but tonight the moon was bright.” ― Stephen King, Doctor Sleep
Heard some important information on Twitter today, and thought I’d post it here for anyone who may not have heard it. This is actually a thing, devised by human rights organisation called Karma Nirvana.
It seemed the Eswa Adventurer’s Guild was the place to be tonight. The music was playing, the beer was flowing… And at the bar, Sterling Van Broom, a broomstick of a man with a curled handlebar mustache and a haughty expression was discussing some more sinister work with the guild master…
if you have Norton Antivirus or Norton VPN, delete the software ASAP.
Norton is automatically installing and running a cryptocurrency mining program in the backgrounds of their users. There is no text box asking to confirm the use of this program and is installed automatically, it runs during “downtime” on your computer . While the official announcement said that this program was exclusive to the US, international users are reporting it as well. We don’t know the exact scope yet.
To delete this program, must go into the files (Program Files/Norton) and delete the file NCrypt.exe. It will ask for the admin permission. (Some report having admin permissions on their computer but being unable to delete the program.) If the software is already downloaded to your computer, I would NOT recommend continuing to use Norton, as there is no guarantee that the .exe file won’t return in another update.
Tell your friends and family, reblog, spread this, please. It’s barely been getting any attention, and I worry that Norton is setting a precedent that other companies will repeat. However, if a large (or very vocal) part of the userbase continues to complain, it may make Norton or other companies think twice before mining crypto on your computer.
My husband loved this series as a kid. Now, as adults, we exchange books every Christmas Eve, and he has used the opportunity to introduce me to these books. Every year I get the next in the series.
What does that wizard book in the post about obscure spinoffs have to do with DW?
Admittedly, it’s the first time I’ve heard of ‘So you want to be a wizard’ series but I did some research on it and every time I typed in the title with doctor who, it just comes up with the book itself so I don’t think it has anything to do doctor who at all? Unless there is context inside the book that might connect it?
I’ve checked on goodreads and other reviews but it just sounds like a very good middle-grade series. Tamora Pierce left a review of it on her good reads?
Might be best contacting the original poster who might have more explanation. Unless other people can help join the connection of this to doctor who!
