Counter-Strike: Global Offensive - Operation Riptide has Just Dropped
It is now clear that Valve was actually making a teaser to be revealed for Counter-Strike Global Offensive this week. Today, the studio launched the FPS game's next big operation, Riptide, which brings a batch of new game modes maps, gameplay tweaks, maps as well as challenges.
You can download the latest operation pass on Steam, CS:GO Operation Riptide introduces some pretty big improvements to the way you take on the shooter. One of these is through a new private matchmaking queues feature. This lets you generate the code for a queue to share with pals - or with members of the same Steam group to create private Premier match on Valve's servers. The new overview of operations will explain how you can pair up, form your teams, or simply wait for the matchmaker to sort it out.
Riptide also allows players to select between two match lengths on official (competitive) servers of CSGO Short (MR16), or long (MR30). You can select 'no preference' if your heart is set on one of the match lengths. Team Deathmatch has also got some new options, with the option of "Classic Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch (first team to 100 kills wins), and Deathmatch that is free for all players (all players are enemies)".
There are also improvements to the Demolition and Arms Race game mode, which have adjusted weapon progressions in each. There are also other changes that can be seen in the overview.
As with previous CS:GO operations, there will be rewards to be snatched up while Riptide is in play. You'll earn stars when you complete weekly missions and can then spend on new agents, including "Guerrilla Warfare Terrorists, CT SEAL team 'Frogmen', and the French Gendarmerie" as well as new items, four new weapon collections, and other cosmetics.
In terms of maps the fan-created, almost Far Cry five-like map County that we wrote on earlier in the year - was added to CS:GO official matchmaking for Danger Zone mode. Basalt and Insertion II now have a place in the Competitive Deathmatch, Casual and Competitive modes' pools of competitive matchmaking, while Ravine Extraction, Ravine and Wingman have been added to Wingman's official matchmaking. Grind, Mocha and Pitstop have been removed. You can also find some tweaks to Dust 2, Inferno and Ancient in Valve's patch notes.
Riptide's gameplay enhancements include the ability to drop grenades as regular weapons, and a body damage buff (M4A1-S) for the Deagle. Dual Elites are now less expensive and vision after death has been reduced to 2.0s from 3.0s (0.5s down from 1.0s for vision by headshot).
Today we're excited to ship CS:GO's 11th Operation, Operation Riptide. New challenges await, with new maps, new game mode options, all-new Private Queues and more: https://t.co/w9Av3CkmrU
