“Cool.” Another drag of the cigarette. Jonas exhaled. “I was gonna visit Mom. You can come if you wanna, I guess, meet her. Sort of.” Meet her remains, rather. It hurt to think about it, but running from reality wasn’t going to help either. Jonas snapped his eyes shut and wondered if she was watching him right now. Would she scold him for not getting along with Ren? He’d never know, honestly.
“Don’t tell Dad, though. He wouldn’t--he doesn’t get why I keep going and I don’t get why he never goes. It’s pretty fucked up. Like, if he asks, just tell him we’re going to the mall or something.”
the breakfast club
Alex winced at the offered cigarette. “Yeah, um… No thanks. You know the whole ‘dry-heaving’ story.”
Definitely not a great start to the day. Good job, Alex, you idiot.
“The car? Uh, no, I don’t… I don’t think so.” She opened her mouth to ask Jonas what plans he had to use the car for, but she decided against it. She’s gotten into his business enough as it is.
She cleared her throat awkwardly. Uncomfortable silence, it is…

She’s the one who brought it up. Brushing it off now was just unfair. That, and Jonas was awful at hiding how peeved Alex was making him. He furrowed his brow in annoyance and muttered a curt “whatever”.
And, of course, he went for his smokes. Jonas reflexively offered her one before patting himself down for a lighter. Wisps of grey fluttered into the wind.
“Oh yeah, I wanted to ask you something: You don’t need the car on Sunday, do you?”
the breakfast club
Alex glanced at Jonas for a second. “Well– okay, so… I haven’t exactly had this whole uh… talk with him yet. I’ve tried to like, get what information I could in as much of a subtle manner as possible… But, um…”
She stuttered and mumbled and searched her mind for something to say. “I’m a little uneasy about talking to him directly about it, but look, I… I at least know that he doesn’t totally hate your guts. And I can tell he feels some sort of remorse for… calling you a meathead and a weirdo… and a maniac… and all the other stuff.”
Alex hunched over and looked off to the side. She was just making herself look dumber by the minute. “… Maybe we should just… not have this conversation right now. In fact, let’s– Why don’t we just pretend like it never happened? What were we talking about? Oh gosh, I dunno!” She chuckled timidly and feigned a crooked smile towards Jonas.
Yeah, that’s not gonna work.

As hectic as his life had become, Jonas hadn’t forgotten the simple pleasures in life: As soon as he saw a pomeranian hopping down the street, all bets were off; he felt his heart melt. Kneeling down for the little guy, he greeted the pup with headscratches and a friendly “hey there!”
On reflex, Jonas looked the dog over for a collar and noticed that he didn’t have one. Maybe it was a stray? But who wouldn’t want to scoop up such a cute fluffy dog off the streets? “Aww, who’s a good boy?”
A supernatural meeting? (Closed - Jonas)
Now, during his time staying at this strange human city, Missile had gotten a little used to being able to talk with humans of all sorts, even if strangely, some of them had not been in mortal danger or seem to have ‘Ghost Cores’ like those who’d died and had their fate averted before.
Yet, despite having no powers of his own despite the ability to talk with those humans - for the first time in a long time since he’d come here, he felt a chill run down his spine, reverberate through his entire being. He hadn’t felt like that since…he was standing next to a human with a Ghost Core. This Ghost Core felt different, though - instead of drawing his spirit closer, it felt like it was trying to repel him, keep him away, like..a kind of soul protection?
It was very strange, and even though he had to push really hard against it, he wanted to investigate this!! He was the good doggie of a Detective lady as well as Mistress Kamila, after all, so he wanted to help solve mysteries too! Though, it was very hard going, and he whined as he tried to walk further toward the thing ‘pushing’ him away.
Tumblr media
(He didn’t know he was getting strange looks from other humans as he did this, his mind being as innocent as it was, though.)

Much as Alex had a point, the guilt gnawed at him. Deep down, he knew she was being selfish, but he sure as hell didn’t have the heart to echo that conclusion. That was just douchey.
So instead, he became the selfish one: “Hold on. But what? What’d Ren say?”
the breakfast club
Alex sighed and trudged along. She didn’t really expect any other kind of reaction so Jonas’s response didn’t really surprise her. “I never said it was just your fault– I mean, it’s not really anyone’s fault, I know you guys just don’t… mix, or whatever. And, y’know, maybe this is just all my fault for introducing you guys to each other! And I have tried to talk to Ren, but… God, what am I even supposed to say? I pretty much grew up with this kid and– I just– I don’t…”
She exhaled and stuffed her hands into her jean pockets. “… I know I’m… being really selfish right now. I shouldn’t try to… to force you guys to play nice, or whatever. I just feel really conflicted… I’m sorry.” she mumbled.

Honestly? Jonas had thought he and Ren were hitting it off, too. But then the whole drugs thing came up and that--that brought back bad memories. Fuckin’ annoyed the hell out of him the way Ren used. “Sorry to disappoint.”
Hearing the faucet drown out just about everything else, Jonas rose from his seat and gestured for Alex to take a lap with him. “Be back in a bit, Dad!” He grabbed his keys, crammed them in his pocket, and stepped out the door.
Once the parentals were out of earshot, he mumbled, “He doesn’t think before he acts. Like, it’s great that he speaks his mind, but he speaks his mind. It’s that kinda thing, you know? I die of secondhand embarrassment every goddamn time and that makes me angry. Frustrated.”
He dragged a hand down his face. Shit. This wasn’t about him and Alex; she wasn’t supposed to feel that way. “Yeah. I know where you’re coming from. Look, just,” - Jonas stopped and turned to face her - “Have you given him this talk already? What doesn’t he like about me? This isn’t just my fault, Alex.”
the breakfast club
“I knowww…” Alex sighed, “But I just, I don’t get it. I thought you guys would kinda hit it off eventually… somehow.”
She leaned her elbow on the table and pressed her cheek firmly into her palm, all while idly flicking at pieces of food on her plate with her fork.
“I mean, what even is it about him that you just absolutely cannot stand to the point where you wanna avoid him?” By this point, Dad’s left the table and is helping Mom with the dishes, leaving Alex and Jonas at the table.
“It’s just a little difficult, y’know? I can never have my best friend and my new step-brother around at the same time. I always gotta pick ‘n’ choose between you guys. I feel like thats like–it’s just–I don’t feel like… like that’s right…”

He almost hadn’t heard her either. Jonas glanced over his shoulder and stared. A quick look around showed him that there was literally no one else she could have been talking to aside from herself. Well then, time to make friends and find lost loved ones, he guessed; this really felt like one of his animes now.
“Yeah, I’m looking for my sis. I haven’t seen her since all this started.”
Where were her friends? She hadn’t been with them before waking up here, she’d been the only one in the Shinju-sama’s world at the time, but… Had she succeeded in destroying that world, at the expense of more of her memories? That thought made her shudder, hand curling into a fist and pressing against her chest. She didn’t want to lose anymore of her memories and she had to find her friends, especially Yuna.
Tumblr media
She looked over at the boy near her, a frown on her lips. It looked like she wasn’t the only one trying to find someone important. “Are you looking for someone too?” she asked, voice soft and quiet, barely even there. “Maybe we could help each other.”

Worse things could happen, honestly, Jonas thinks as ice cream soaks into his hair. Like a man who’s lost his will to live, he stares at her for a long, pregnant pause, before asking her very patiently, “Do you mind going back inside and grabbing some napkins? I don’t want this to stain my clothes.” As soon as he gets that off his chest, Jonas tilts forward and lets the lost ice cream drip onto the pavement and not his jacket. He knows he looks ridiculous and he’s trying not to die of embarrassment right now.
A Sad Day for Ice Cream
@oxenfreehim
Kyoko was in need of a change of pace. The play, that she was currently writing, was giving her problems. Normally, when faced with a problem, she would bully her way through. Almost anything could be solved with a bit of hard work and enough guts to lift an ox. But she was blocked and no amount of paper or pen ink or brazen fortitude could seem to get her past that.
She had tried to find her housemate to see if she wanted to go out for some ice cream. There was nothing like ice cream shared between friends that could lighten one’s spirit and fire up one’s determination. But her friend was away from the house at the moment so she was forced to go alone hoping that solitary ice cream was as rejuvenating as ice cream eaten with friends.
She walked down the street to a small store she had discovered the other day. They boasted that they had thirty one flavors of ice cream. Kyoko would have never guessed that there were so many kinds. She couldn’t believe there was need for more than five.
After ordering a flavor called Cherry Jubilee she turned to leave the store. Already her spirits were lifting. Just as she was about to return home a loud bark from a dog startled her. Her hand flew up in the air as she turned to meet this menace. This menace turned out to be a foot and a half of ice cream wanting fuzz.
Tumblr media
The dog rushed past her causing her to notice she no longer had any ice cream. Turning around she saw that the cone had landed on a random stranger. “Oh! I’m so sorry!” she said to the stranger.

Holy crap. Jonas stares at his savior and scrambles up against the cliff, trying to do whatever it is they do in the movies. (Aside from falling into a stampeding herd. He does not want to replicate that.) Miraculously, he manages to get back onto even ground.
“I--I can’t believe that just happened.” Jonas peers back at the abyss. “That was a thing just now.”
The past few days have been hazy. Remnants of different scenery ran through his head like dreams that pull at your mind when you wake. Only a recollection of something that might have happened. He was dirty, tired, hungry, and smelled vaguely like a dumpster. What the frick was happening. The whole city was still in chaos, his knees trembling over the sheer destruction of it all.
The random number of earthquakes didn’t help either.
As he fell onto his knees he saw somebody try to jump one of the many chasms littered around the streets. Would he make it?
Nope.
Tumblr media
“DUDE I GOT YOU!” He cried and he poofed over, grabbing the stranger’s wrist just in time. "I would say long live the king but nah.”

Oh shit. Awkward. He’d feel bad, honest, but Jonas is a little freaked out right now. Keep it together, man. Ghosts are real and so are aliens. Not that big of a deal.
“Uhh... it’s... it’s like Godzilla. Those giant... never mind.” Hands up, eyes wide, Jonas takes a step back. “A troll? But you’ve got gills.”
Eridan wasn’t sure if humans just assumed he couldn’t understand what they were saying, or if they regularly talked out loud, but he was getting kind of sick of it. And humans were always assuming what species he was. Rolling his eyes, Eridan turned to respond to this latest human outburst.
ERIDAN: wwhat the fuck is a kaiju ERIDAN: an wwhat does a human grub havve to do wwith it ERIDAN: honestly you humans are so confusin  ERIDAN: alwways actin surprised wwhen you see somethin neww ERIDAN: an for the record im a troll

Damn. Daaaamn. Called out in front of Mom and Dad. Jonas sputtered angrily while Mom asked if everything was okay between them and he quickly blurt out, “I talk to her! Plenty of times! Just not when the teacher’s talking ‘cause I can’t afford anymore detention. --though, technically, new school, new track record.”
Somehow, opening his mouth had damned him even more than Alex’s jab.
Jonas sank into his chair with a huff and stuffed his cheeks with more blueberry goodness. As he chewed, he pointed his fork in Alex and finally spoke to her directly, “You know Ren and I don’t jive. If he’s hanging around you, I don’t want to, like, alter the atmosphere. Things get tense when you cram him and me into the same space.”
the breakfast club
Alex caught a glance of a fairly disgruntled, syrup-less stepdad. She gave a sheepish grin just before carefully pouring a little pool of syrup on top of her pancakes. She liked her bacon with syrup too, but she preferred to be a little more… precise about it.
She snickered at Jonas’s almost-Freudian slip. “Oh, so you do, like, actually like the school? Most of the time it kinda seems like you’re just itching to avoid me during school hours, so it’s always hard to check in on ya. But, y’know, embarrassing new step-sisters. Who knows what they’re gonna do next, am I right?” Alex bantered, accenting the question with an elbow nudge towards Jonas accompanied by a wink.

How many days had it been now? Jonas vaguely remembers marking his fingers, like some sort of compulsion, and stares at the sharpie along the joints. God, he really hoped that Alex was okay. Ren was with her, right? (He felt somewhat guilty for having Alex tunnel vision, but that didn’t mean he didn’t care what happened to Ren.)
Kicking at the ground in abject defeat, Jonas crushes the heel of his palm against his eyes. Dammit.
“Alex... c’mon... where are you...”

Blueberry pancakes. His new stepmom made the meanest stack of blueberry pancakes and she joked about it being the next big hit with Alex’s hair. Jonas just laughed as he fought with Dad over the syrup. Once again, he easily proved that younger people were more agile. Nice try, old man.
After he drenched his pancakes (and bacon) just the way he liked it, Jonas reached behind his chair, waiting for Alex to snatch it before Dad got a chance. Now that’s fuckin’ teamwork.
Mom asked how school was and he almost talked through a mouthful of pancake. Jonas chewed, swallowed, and answered like a civilized human being: “Camena’s a lot better. I mean, it feels like the teachers actually give a sh--like they care about us. I like it well enough.” Alex’s turn.

Come to think of it, that song has improper grammar in the lyrics. Jonas frowns in protest.
“Nah, I think I’m just gonna go. Have a nice day.”
Walk faster, Jonas, walk faster.
Kaz’s smirk refuses to cease.
“I know of the D.A.R.E. program, the song missed my ears; why don’t you enlighten me?”

Crap. Called out on his bluff.
Jonas crosses his arms impatiently.
“What kind of self-respecting military man doesn’t know the D.A.R.E. program?”
Kaz returns the look with a scowl of his own.
“There’s a song?” he grins sinisterly “sure, sing it.”
