Sometimes saying a character "deserved better" doesn't mean you wish they got a happier ending. Sometimes it means "I wish the buildup to their tragic downfall was given more attention and care so the end of their story hit that much harder". Sometimes it means "their death was a major tonal shift for their piece of media so I wish the other characters mentioned or thought of them after they're gone"
