You gotta hand it to Fig. All of the Bad Kids were given foils this season and they got to decide how much they wanted to engage with that part of the plot. Gorgug only interacted with Mary Ann in passing despite them both being on the Owlbears. Fabian noped out of chatting up Ivy once she crossed a line with Mazey. Riz was so busy that he truly had no time to engage with Kipperlilly even though she's obsessed with him. Kristen interacted a bit with Buddy but spent way more time verbally sparring with Kipperlilly. And Adaine was somewhat interested in Oisin but never overtly acted on it.
But Fig?
She's in Ruben's WALLS. She's in his DREAMS. She's faking her alter emo's death. She's got the Fantasy FBI after her. She's SO SO tiny. No one is doing it like Fig's doing it.

the reveal that sol wanted to join the pantheons, to unite the gods back in the ancient past, is rattling around in my brain. because that's not the sol we saw in sophomore year, and that's not how we've ever seen anyone involved in the mainstream worship of the trinity sol, helio, and galicaea (excluding wolfsong as they aren't mainstream) actually worship them. sol was changed too. sol was corrupted by worship. being a god in spyre is living in an existential horror.

i can feel jace's constant headache watching the rat grinders antagonise the bad kids, like he knows they'll take the bait and get involved and all he wants in a chill, easy year as he prepares to resurrect and kill a dead god so that his partner can ascend

by the end of this season the bad kids will have been partially or fully responsible for the deaths of at least 7 different members of faculty at the school. just truly everything Arthur could ask for.

all wanda childa did was show up, be so tiny, give THE oscar worthy performance that would make Hollywood executives shit their pants to give her a franchise, die, be carried off so tinyly by a fake rendition of the rage god 's champion (w/ top tier symbolism), and leave men absolutely traumatized

trying to clear some stuff up with the rat grinders pls add stuff i miss:
oisin got buff over the summer, the same time he would have gotten a rage crystal
maryann is a barbarian with insane athletics and porter's been teaching her, he might have connected with the high five heroes through her in the first place
kipperlilly didn't want to be called the rat grinders because it gives away some of their secrets but ruben just wanted to fuck with her
the rats that lucy revived were either killed out of spite by the other rat grinders or they were just collateral when porter fought monsters
oisin only started missing ping pong balls after talking to adaine when she said she didn't remember him and talked about how rich she is, maybe because he felt justified then
buddy presumably thought they were actually restoring this goddess even though she was competing with sol and helped anyway
they all genuinely thought lucy was coming back so 'killing' her wasn't ever meant maliciously by the rat grinders
they could have had a suicide pact all planning to take the deal and come back and just lucy didn't follow through
so with the next cleric they didn't give him any warning so he would make a split-second decision to come back to life without necessarily knowing the consequences

in that chunky episode where so much of the mystery became clear I honestly think the best part was Kristen's talk with Bucky. Kristen has been where he has. even telling him the alarm system that was instilled into her was wrong was such a moving and touching moment. In that moment I think we really see Ally see what Kristen would have been like had she not died in the corn cuties battle.
And further more we see what Kristen doesn't want for her brother. Kristen doesn't try to convert Bucky to Casandra but just lets him know there is more out there, there is more than what we were taught growing up. It's not something to be scared of or run away from, it's good to have these questions, and it's okay to not have answers to them. Kristen really sees what could have been with her in her brother. Kristen opening up that space between her and Bucky really shows him that no matter what he decides, she is going to be there for him, no matter what questions he may have, he can find comfort in them with her.
Telling Bucky that he can stay with Helio while wanting to ask questions further proves that Helio doesn't have to stay the way he is. He can be shaped, and if Bucky is having these thoughts, others are too. Kristen opened Bucky up to a deeper relationship with those around him and to Helio if he chooses to stay with him. Kristen proves yet again with this talk with Bucky that she is THAT cleric. St. Kristen Applebees is the kind, and loving person that Bucky and many others like him need.
