ORDER FROM CHAOS ROLEPLAY

It's been ten years since the Great War started, and England is wrapped in a mess of panic, chaos, and fear. An organization known as the Death Eaters have taken over, and are now terrorizing the country... and not even the Ministry seems able to stop them.
War casualties continue to rise, and every day there's a new story about someone going missing. Friends turn against friends, and enemies emerge from every corner as people begin to wonder, is there really anyone you can still trust?

There’s something weighted about this day. July 20th, 1980 is nothing exceptional on the surface— it’s a colder summer than usual, and the fog clinging to the air seems to be more a commentary on the state of the wizarding world than on the weather itself. And indeed, many things are currently in chaos. The Great Hall is still being rebuilt, and the promise of it being completed soon is hardly a comfort to the hundreds of people that lost loved ones in the collapse. Minister Minchum’s abrupt resignation has added even more uncertainty to an already turbulent time, casting yet another shadow over an already gloomy world. But, at a glance, nothing is abnormal about this day. It’s only a few more days until the next full moon, and the waxing crescent hangs low in the sky over Hogsmeade, outlining the silhouette of Hogwarts in the distance. But the village is quiet.
Albus Dumbledore walks through the streets of Hogsmeade without any real hope or expectation for the meeting he’s about to step into. Sybill Trelawney isn’t someone that he has any real interest in meeting, especially since the position she hopes to obtain at Hogwarts isn’t one that he even wants to continue. But Trelawney is a name that means something, that is respected and even revered. It’s been generations since the famed seer Cassandra Trelawney, but a name is a name, and a name has power. And so he enters the Hog’s Head to interview the potential new professor.
She is as unexceptional as he had expected her to be. There are more important things to be focusing on— the rebuilding of Hogwarts, the beginning of the next term, the departure of Minister Minchum and the appointment of quick-witted and reckless Millicent Bagnold to take his place as Minister— but this, instead, is what wastes his time.
“Thank you for meeting with me,
but I’m afraid that we don’t think you’re the right fit for the position.”
It’s a blow that hits harder than he’d anticipated, and brings a reaction he never could’ve called. The young woman’s freezing was what he’d initially taken for heartbreak, but then she speaks, and it’s not as she had before. It’s not the ramblings of a mediocre and crack seer, it’s true, and haunting. And it will change everything.
"The one with the power to vanquish the Dark Lord approaches...
born to those who have thrice defied him,
born as the seventh month dies...
and the Dark Lord will mark him as his equal,
but he will have power the Dark Lord knows not...
and either must die at the hand of the other
for neither can live while the other survives...
the one with the power to vanquish the Dark Lord
will be born as the seventh month dies…."
Outside, Severus Snape listens. Parts of the prophecy are caught before he is chased from the building by the angry barkeep. He hurries to relay what he’s heard, foolish in his desire to pass the information to Lord Voldemort, and be rewarded for his troubles. But inside the room, the future has been set. The prophecy is Sybill’s saving grace, though she is the only one who ends up happy at the end of the meeting. Albus Dumbledore leaves the Hog’s Head with a new Divination professor, and the turning point of the war in his hands. It’s odd, that the fate of the entire wizarding world will come to rest on the shoulders of a child, an infant. There are two children that could fit the prophecy, two individuals who will be hunted from the moment of their birth to avoid the prophecy coming true. It is a burden that should not be placed on anyone.
And it is one that Dumbledore places squarely on the shoulders of Lily and James Potter.
The final pieces are set that night.
The Death Eaters rally in the wake of Severus Snape’s information. Kill Lily and James’ son; he will be the one that the prophecy is about. It does not matter how many are lost in the hunt-- all that matters is that the child is dead. But it is not Harry Potter that falls only fifteen short months later. Voldemort is defeated, gone, dead, and the once strong band of soldiers and the elite crumbles. The Death Eaters meet their ends fighting to the death or rotting in Azkaban. The moment Voldemort is gone, they turn on each other. It’s impossible not to wonder if any of them really believed in the cause anymore, or if they ever had at all. Loyalty means nothing. Self-preservation is the only thing that those that have survived care for.
The Order of the Phoenix is called together for one final time the night of the prophecy. It is the last time that most of them see each other. Marlene McKinnon is the first among them to die, only a week after, and others are quick to follow. By the end of the war, hardly more than a year later, only a handful of the original members will have survived. All that will be left is a photograph, and the stories that those survivors carry.
It is July 31st, 1980,
and the war changes with the first breath of Harry James Potter.
It is October 31st, 1981,
and the war ends with the echo of Voldemort’s failed killing curse.
It is November 1st, 1981,
and it is time to rebuild. It is time to heal. It is time to begin again.
Two years ago today, Order from Chaos opened its doors for the first time. Eleven people playing a total of sixteen characters on a journey that would last from 1978 all the way to 1980. We’ve grown since, into a thriving community full of talented writers and nearly forty characters, and come so far since that first opening day. These past two years have been filled with many things— plot drops, events, joy and grief, laughter and tears. We have seen characters flourish, we have seen characters fall, and each of us has grown along this amazing journey. This has been an incredible and unforgettable experience, and never have I been more honored to be a member of a group more than I have been to be part of the Order from Chaos community. You have built something amazing here, and we never would’ve made it to two years without each and every one of you. We would like to thank new and old members, those that have been with us from the beginning to those that have joined us for these last few thrilling months. It has been an honor and a pleasure to write with all of you, and to be your admin these past two years.
The end of the timeline has finally been reached, and with it, Order from Chaos will be closing its doors today on our anniversary of two amazing years. You are more than welcome to continue writing, but the main will no longer be updating after today. From here, the journey is your own to take on whatever course you wish, or to turn towards a fresh and exciting new chapter.
This is a point of great sadness for me, but being your admin has been nothing but an incredible experience. To write with so many talented people, to learn so much and grow alongside you, and to make lifelong friends has all been possible because of Order from Chaos. I cannot even begin to express my gratitude and my pride towards all of you. You have made Order from Chaos an experience that I know personally, I will never forget.
So thank you. Thank you for joining us, for writing with us, for laughing and crying with us, and for making Order from Chaos everything that it was and more. And thank you for two incredible years as your admin.

PROMPT 008. PICTURE PERFECT
“Beauty is but skin deep, ugly lies the bone.
Beauty dies and fades away, but ugly holds its own.”
We all have an image we want to put out to the world that isn’t a reflection of reality at all. We all want to seem more normal than we are, and if we can fool others into thinking that we’re an ideal person, we can get anywhere. Whether it’s just a person, a couple, or a family, reality and perception rarely line up.
For this prompt, talk about facade versus truth. Does your character come from a dysfunctional family that likes to pretend it’s perfect? Is their perfect relationship anything but? Are they just pretending to be happy? Show the contrast between the image they put forth and the one that’s the reality, and what kind of impact it has on your character to be part of this facade all the time.
This can be, as with all of our prompts, expressed in a drabble, a graphic, a moodboard, a playlist– anything you think that would best showcase this snapshot in your character’s life. Prompts are not mandatory, but are strongly encouraged. This prompt especially we encourage, as we think it is important to stay in touch with your character, and build upon the initial foundation each of you created in your applications.
Want to do more than one? Go for it! The point of prompts is to encourage you to delve into as many aspects of your character as possible, so you are welcome to do as few or as many of these as you like!
