Never have I found the words or will to create a piece worthy of a tribute to L98.  We are in the eve of the 10 year anniversary of his death, so I felt compelled to at least do something. I am not happy with the image, for it does not capture the spirit of Luna adequately. Usually on his death day I go down to the beach and write his name in the sand and watch the waves wash it away.

It’s still so weird to think that Tilikum once lived in the wild.
Tiny little Tilikum with tiny little pecs and tiny little freckles on his little left eyepatch. Little Tilikum, surrounded by his family (maybe some who also had freckles) swimming in Iceland.
What if he had stayed there? Would we being seeing him today, perhaps on Lakí Tours ID guide with a strong Icelandic name? Would we see pictures of him floating around tumblr and think, “Wow, what a beautiful bull!”
Idk man it’s kind of surreal to think about.

Two of the last remaining AT1 transients by Cathy Hart Photography
The male in front is AT10 Eleshanky. His dorsal fin growth has been stunted and researchers aren’t entirely sure why.

Look at them!!  Mom 051, baby 052 and presumed big brother 050! This matriline belongs to Bartolo’s pod, this pod stays from the South of Portugal to the left side of the Strait, where all the Almadrabas are! Pictures taken by Manu Esteve for his documentary

Went on an impromtu whale-watching trip yesterday with @floatslikebricks and was INCREDIBLY lucky to see the CA140s in person!! They had just made a kill on a common dolphin (we encountered the larger pod stampeding away from the scene), and were feeding and celebrating! We saw a few small breaches, tail lobs, pec slaps, and spyhops! One female turned on her back and did a double pec slap for about 15 seconds! It was a wonderful and special experience.
