My OTC experience with the National Junior Team
The trip was incredible. It made me realize how blessed I am to be part of a team with so much sprit and love. I got to see many of my friends from Jr. Pan Pacs, and meet some new people too. I also got to hangout with Aaron Piersol, Katie Hoff, and Brendan Hansen....they swam with us and shared their experiences with us.
We had a lot of presentations- including drug testing, sports psychology, nutrition, and safe sport but the one I thought was most interesting was with guest speaker Tyler Hamilton. He shared his story and I was surprised at how open he was about all of it. He said he lived a lie for 14 years, hiding from the doping control officers, and that doping was a huge part of the cycling culture. It was a very interesting talk and I was surprised with how open he was. He said he would send each swimmer a copy of his autobiography, which was very nice of him.
The last day we went on a hike that reached an elevation of 12,000 feet. The trail was literally a straight up flight of stairs and it was very challenging. There were times were I had to use my arms to pull my body over the steps because they were so steep. I felt so accomplished once reaching the top, 2,761 steps later.
I was really sad to say goodbye to all my friends.....this summer I will be too old to qualify for the Junior World Championships team, but I have been selected as an alternate for the World University Games, and hopefully I will make that! :) I'm very excited.

Learning to let go should be learned before learning to get. Life should be touched, not strangled. You’ve got to relax, let it happen at times, and at others move forward with it.

You don’t know anyone at the party, so you don’t want to go. You don’t like cottage cheese, so you haven’t eaten it in years. This is your choice, of course, but don’t kid yourself: it’s also the flinch. Your personality is not set in stone. You may think a morning coffee is the most enjoyable thing in the world, but it’s really just a habit. Thirty days without it, and you would be fine. You think you have a soul mate, but in fact you could have had any number of spouses. You would have evolved differently, but been just as happy. You can change what you want about yourself at any time. You see yourself as someone who can’t write or play an instrument, who gives in to temptation or makes bad decisions, but that’s really not you. It’s not ingrained. It’s not your personality. Your personality is something else, something deeper than just preferences, and these details on the surface, you can change anytime you like. If it is useful to do so, you must abandon your identity and start again. Sometimes, it’s the only way. Set fire to your old self. It’s not needed here. It’s too busy shopping, gossiping about others, and watching days go by and asking why you haven’t gotten as far as you’d like. This old self will die and be forgotten by all but family, and replaced by someone who makes a difference. Your new self is not like that. Your new self is the Great Chicago Fire—overwhelming, overpowering, and destroying everything that isn’t necessary.

When you start to really know someone, all their physical characteristics start to disappear. You begin to dwell in his energy, recognize the scent of their skin. You see only the essence of the person, not the shell. That’s why you can’t fall in love with beauty. You can lust after it, be infatuated by it, want to own it. You can love it with your eyes and body but not your heart. And that’s why, when you really connect with a person’s inner self, any physical imperfections disappear, become irrelevant.

I
have discovered so many things about myself that I didn't realize. I am always learning. I am so thankful that life gives me opportunities to change my past to make it better.

Taking a break from my 5-page paper to share this brief insightful thought
Every person's experience is created internally, by him or herself. If you feel hurt by something or someone, it is the result of your decision to feel that way. Tough to hear, but it is true.
Life is how YOU make it. You can change your mind at any moment about how something is affecting you. Life is subjective.

Holding hands may seem like an innocent gesture, but they show more than a simple interlocking of fingers. Your hands are one of the most essential parts of your body: you build with them, feed with them, hold with them, touch with them, fight with them; they are the tools of the human body. To take a hold of another’s hand is to break from living individually. It is to link yourself to another being, to momentarily entwine your life with anothers, to promise, for a moment, that you need not face the world alone. More simple, more aesthetically naive than other forms of affection, i.e kissing, hugging, sex, the act of holding hands is often trivialized in its true implications.

48 Important Truths I’ve Learned About Life
1. You can’t change other people, and it’s rude to try.

4. Bad moods will come and go your whole life, and trying to force them away makes them run deeper and last longer.
5. Children are remarkably honest creatures until we teach them not to be.
6. If everyone in the TV show you’re watching is good-looking, it’s not worth watching.
7. Yelling always makes things worse.
