Applications for the Yale Maurice R. Greenberg World Fellows Program 2022 are now open. The Maurice R. Greenberg World Fellows Program is a four-month, full-time residential program based out of Yale’s Jackson Institute for Global Affairs. The Program runs annually from mid-August to mid-December.
The Program provides World Fellows the opportunity to expand their vision, learn from each other, and grow personally and professionally. World Fellows contribute to Yale’s intellectual life, give talks and participate on panels, collaborate with peers, audit classes, and mentor students.
Program Components
Key components of the Program are:
Weekly Seminars
Good Society: World Fellows present to each other their vision for making the world a better place, what they do professionally, and how they contribute to building the ‘good society.’
Salon: World Fellows host distinguished guests for discussions on key topics, expanding their knowledge and challenging their views.
Personal Development: World Fellows receive individual and group coaching and skills development training. World Fellows can audit many of the 2,000+ courses offered at Yale, work on individual or collaborative projects, and conduct independent research.
Hosting Events: World Fellows give talks and participate on panels across Yale, sharing their knowledge and expertise with students and faculty. Fellows are introduced to the campus during the annual World Fellows Night open house, which draws hundreds of attendees.
Mentoring Students: World Fellows mentor students (both undergraduate and graduate) who apply to be their liaisons. The student liaisons assist World Fellows in putting on events and ensure that they are fully immersed in life at Yale.
Group Travel: Fellows have the opportunity to explore dynamic region, both on their own and during group trips to New York City and Washington, DC, plus a retreat in the beautiful Berkshire mountains.
Benefits
Fellows will receive:
A taxable stipend to cover the costs of living in New Haven;
A modest, furnished one, or two-bedroom apartment for the duration of the program;
Medical insurance.
Round-trip travel from home country.
Eligibility
Applicants should be between five and twenty-five years into their professional careers, with demonstrated and significant accomplishments at a regional, national, or international level. The average age of a World Fellow is 39, though there is no minimum or maximum age limit.
Applicants must be citizens of a country other than the United States. While applicants who hold dual citizenship with the United States are eligible, strong preference is given to candidates whose work is focused outside the United States.
Applicants must be fluent in English. An excellent command of the English language is essential to successfully participating in the program.
World Fellows are required to be in residence at Yale University in New Haven for the entirety of the program which runs from mid-August through mid-December.

Applicants must have:
An established record of extraordinary achievement and integrity.
A commitment to the good society and to making a positive impact at the local, national, or international level.
A promise of a future career in leadership and notable global impact.
A special capacity for critical, creative, entrepreneurial, and strategic thinking.
A likelihood to benefit from participation in the program and to contribute to the global perspective on Yale’s campus.
A commitment to a rigorous program of activities, to full-time residence at Yale for the entire duration of the program, and to mentoring students and speaking frequently on campus.

UNESCO Global Education Monitoring (GEM) Report Fellowship Program 2022
Deadline: December 1, 2021
Applications are open for the UNESCO Global Education Monitoring (GEM) Report Fellowship Program 2022. The Global Education Monitoring (GEM) Report Fellowship Program, funded by the Open Society Foundation, supports researchers who aim to bring a novel perspective to comparative and international education development to aid the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4, the global education goal.
We are only nine years away from the end of the 2030 Agenda. The Fellowship offers an opportunity to be part of a select group of scholars and researchers, collaborating with the GEM Report team on one or both aspect of its core objectives:
To monitor and report on progress in the SDG 4 on education and education-related aspects in other SDGs;
To report on the implementation of national and international strategies to help hold all relevant partners to account for their commitments as part of the SDG follow-up and review.
Program Details
Author a Fellow paper, to be published on the GEM Report website. The paper should be based on original, and previously unpublished, analysis. The Fellowship provides an opportunity to address policy-relevant research analyzing core issues related to the SDG 4 agenda’s monitoring, policy or implementation challenges, and suggest policy recommendations. After completion of the paper, the authors are encouraged to further develop the work for academic publication or further policy exploration on the topic.
Learn about specific dimensions of GEM Report work in monitoring quantitative and qualitative indicators and/or reporting on the implementation of national and international strategies; gain access to GEM Report data and expertise; and expand researcher horizons and engagements within the international education community.
Engage with the community of Fellows, participating in peer exchanges, and networking; and participate in monthly meetings and other relevant activities with the GEM Report research team. If relevant, engage on policy dissemination with the GEM Report communications and outreach teams.
Benefits
The work will be carried out remotely, with a two-week-long visit in Paris (with travel allowance) if the sanitary conditions allow. The GEM Report team will provide:
A stipend of US$19,500 for the duration of the fellowship (up to 11 months).
A mentor from the team of GEM Report researchers, to provide regular mentoring, guidance and engagement with the GEM Report work.
Monthly meetings engagement across the research team and Fellows.
Eligibility
GEM Report Fellows would ideally be linked to universities or research institutions, have substantial experience with research methods, in-depth field policy and research analysis, and have produced some relevant research outputs.
The Fellowship is open to fellows at early or advanced stages of their career, and can include senior analysts, advanced doctoral candidates, post-doctoral students, professors, or researchers from non-governmental organization (NGO) and civil society backgrounds.
The Fellowship aims to support candidates from diverse nationalities.
Project Proposal
The research proposal should be placed within the current policy debate on SDG 4 and briefly describe the potential contribution this research will make to the field of education and to policy making. It should include the following elements:
Research abstract (no more than 200 words)
Proposal (maximum 8 pages / 4000 words), including the following elements:
Introduction/Rationale that motivates the topic and its policy relevance
Brief relevant literature and policy relevant research questions
Data and methodology to address research questions
Data utilized for the research could be:
either large-scale quantitative data, such as national or cross-national learning or literacy assessments and household, school or labour force surveys
or mixed methods data, utilizing secondary analysis information as well as qualitative methods (policy document analysis, focus group discussions, interviews) for deep dives into one or a few contexts
Methods – should include a strong focus on descriptive methods, clear statement of empirical estimations or qualitative coding
Timeline and resources: timeframe for data collection, research, and analysis. All analysis for the Fellowship should be concluded within a 10 month period.
GEM Report alignment: Indicate why GEM Report resources and research areas (thematic or geographic) are particularly well suited to address those questions.
Although preference is given to multi-country comparative analyses, in-depth within-country analysis that speak to broader comparative relevance are also eligible.
Selection Criteria
Key criteria for selection include:
Originality – what gaps does it fill in the current educational research landscape?
Potential to influence the global education agenda – are the issues adequately broad and relevant for the larger community?
Analytical rigour, in terms of data, methods, and relevance.
Feasibility of analysis within the time frame.
Research that highlights equity and accountability, such as investigations of human rights challenges, and inequalities in educational progress.
Other criteria could include:
Utilization of the GEM Report’s data resources, such as household and school surveys linked to the World Inequality Database on Education (WIDE) or the GEM Report’s Profiles Enhancing Education Reviews (PEER).
Contribution of new insights on monitoring indicators, implementation and challenges mid-way into the 2030 agenda.
Support for the themes of forthcoming GEM reports, i.e. the 2023 GEM Report on technology and the 2024 GEM Report on education leadership.

Program Details
HAI was established to support innovative AI research that bridges disciplines or fields. Emerging Technologies for Emerging Markets (E4E) is a tech policy advocacy group and Think Tank seeking to toe the path of policy-to-action that ensures emerging markets are not outmaneuvered in the adoption of emerging technologies. For the launch, they are organizing a Fellowship program, and this is the call for applications.
About
The inevitability of digital currencies is a fact supported by the historical evolution of money from cowries of the stone age to today’s paper money. Obviously, the digital age needs money that embodies the characteristics of this era. 
While private digital currencies like bitcoin and Ether appear to be gaining prominence, Central Banks worldwide are considering a countermeasure through a central bank digital currency (CBDC). Apparently, the Battle of the Coins is imminent.
However, with the exception of the Central Bank of Nigeria and the Bank of Ghana, few CBDC-related activities are seen in Africa. This calls for an examination into the state of CBDC in Africa and the theme for the inaugural Fellowship/Policy Report.

Roseline Adebimpe Adewuyi from Nigeria is OD Young Person of the Month for November 2021!
Welcome to November!
Our Young Person of the Month is Roseline Adebimpe Adewuyi from Nigeria! Roseline is a social educator, a gender advocate, a French instructor, and a passionate blogger on girl-child issues. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in French from Obafemi Awolowo University and a Masters in French from the University of Ibadan.

Roseline is a social educator, a gender advocate, a French instructor, and a passionate blogger on girl-child issues. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in French from Obafemi Awolowo University and a Masters in French from the University of Ibadan. This focus, she says, strengthens her academic knowledge in the field of advocacy.
From 2019 to 2020, Roseline worked as a Translator and Interpreter with the African Union. She has been a public speaker in many platforms mentoring teenagers in gender capacity developments. Her gender equality advocacy, she says, has availed her privileged access to events, conferences, and work-based relationships with various ground breakers and organizations in the USA, Ghana, Ethiopia, Rwanda, Algeria, among others.
On How She Began
The journey for Roseline began about half a decade ago in Kwara State, Nigeria, where she served as a corps member. She decided to help young females who were constantly told to shut their mouths or go home to stand their ground and always voice their concerns and desires. She is now dedicated to helping the girl child shatter glass ceilings that impede her growth, severs the hold of gender stereotypes that stifles her behavioural makeup, teaches her to abandon societal constructs that are inimical to her personal growth, and re-orients her to break the chains of deeply entrenched indoctrinations.
Her unending quest is to help young girls imbibe the gusto and learning acumen to discard societal-influenced scripts. She also helps them consciously choose to adhere to the paths they have chosen themselves. Her primary target are young females (secondary school girls) because according to her, they have a somewhat pristine mind, untarnished by societal dictates. Her dream is to help them grow out of the stifling spaces boxing them in, preventing them from spreading their wings, and taking to the sky, where they can only soar to the ends of time. Roseline organises workshops, trainings, seminars, and she sets up other educational yet thrilling events often. She actively engages women on social media and via her constant blog posts on her blog roselineadewuyi.com because she is also very particular about re-imaging women in her society.
On Her Successes
Through her work, Roseline has received many honours and awards including being a member of the Commonwealth Youth Gender Equality Network. In 2016, she was privileged to be named a YALI RLC Fellow. And in 2017, she received an Award at the end of her National Youth Service as a distinguished corps member in Kwara State; University of Ilorin, her place of primary assignment. The award recognized her contributions to Sustainable Development Goals, especially Education and Gender Equality, and the Ministry of Education, Kwara State, gave her another Award of Commendation.
In the same year, she was named as a ONE Champion, participated in the Lagos Business School Young Talents Programme, and attended an Open Society Foundation-sponsored, fully funded programme, “West Africa Executive Course on Human Rights and Drug Policy” in Ghana.
In 2018, Roseline became an MCW fellow, attended the Young Leaders Access Program in New York; the Dalai Lama Fellowship Assembly, Virginia, USA and represented Nigeria in a program on Human Rights called LabCitoyen sponsored by the French Embassy in Nigeria in Paris, France.
In 2019, Roseline attended the Kectil Leadership Conference, Atlanta, Georgia, USA and also got an Award for Under 25 years of age Outstanding Social Innovator in Education Category by Ideation Hub Africa. That same year, she got a 12-month long opportunity to further humanity’s cause as an African Union Youth Volunteer as a translator and interpreter.
She says, of most of the opportunities she got, she saw them on Opportunity Desk’s website. She says, if it was not for Opportunity Desk, she may not have had access to most of these opportunities of participations and attendances, which, were fully funded.
In 2020, Roseline was recognized as one of 60 Women Champions in Nigeria by BusinessDay to commemorate Nigeria’s Independence Day. Some Nigerian dailies, such as Nigerian Tribune and the Guardian Newspaper, and other reputable websites dedicated features to her cause, and she has been a guest for live interviews on national broadcast media, such as the Nigerian Television Authority, (NTA), and RFI (Radio France Internationale). Most recently, in April 2021, Roseline got the Berenice A. Caroll Feminism, Peace, and Social Justice Award for her project titled “Breaking Gender Stereotypes and Reimaging the Woman” by the Women’s, Gender and Sexuality Program, Purdue University, USA.
On Her Obstacles and Future Plans

On her obstacles, Roseline says she only has an initiative and implements projects but she does not have an NGO, hence she doesn’t have a group of volunteers working with her. She believes the cumbersome weight on her shoulders may just be alleviated with a team. Her present teaming support system, comprises of friends, family, colleagues and mentors who keep her fires stoked. She also considers collaboration expedient in her line of work because it prevents the reinvention of a wheel.
For the future, Roseline plans to create a structured mentorship programme with streamlined modules, where younger females can connect with established and influential women. In the meantime, though, she is working on teaching young females acquiring and improving on their digital skills. She hopes to set up a physical hub for young girls where they can learn.
Her Word of Advice for the Youth
“When an idea springs into mind, start. Your chances of success do not matter. It is fine if you do not have everything figured out at first. Experience and evolution are products of involvement, engagement and activeness. Along the way, you will evolve because more ideas will come to you and you will experience great insight. With time, there will be room for scaling up what you are doing.”

Applications are open for the Grist Environmental Justice Fellow Program 2022. Grist is seeking an Environmental Justice Fellow to join their Editorial team. This fellowship will run for six months, beginning January 31, 2022. The fellow will report to the articles editor.
With the mentorship and support of Grist’s editorial staff, the environmental justice fellow will report on the connections between social inequality and the environment. You will explore the ways in which the environmental movement can become more inclusive, especially in the current moment — and how communities of color are developing new ways to fight for cleaner air and water and safer neighborhoods. They are especially interested in journalism that identifies communities and people working on homegrown solutions.
Responsibilities
Identify and pitch ideas for stories that look at the effects of climate change and pollution on marginalized communities — as well as what those communities are doing to protect themselves.
Write multiple stories — quick news or analysis pieces — each week.
Other duties, like research, web production, and fact-checking, may be assigned from time to time.
Pitch and write one enterprise/feature story in the second half of your fellowship.
Contribute periodically to larger projects.
Benefits
This fellowship is a paid, six-month opportunity ($3334/month) for early-career journalists.
Fellows are eligible for Grist health benefits coverage, including medical, vision, and dental.
Fellows come away with six months of solid newsroom experience, a body of clips, and fluency in climate and environmental justice issues.
Fellows across Grist meet regularly as a cohort with members of the editorial staff to develop skills and content knowledge specific to climate journalism.
Through their Newsroom Training Series, fellows are also trained on a range of crucial skills, from filing FOIA requests to audio/video script-writing.
Fellows benefit from full integration into the workings of a busy and exciting nonprofit media organization.
Eligibility
Applicant must possess a four-year degree, or equivalent professional experience;
Fellows can be based anywhere in the United States.
Strong understanding of Grist’s brand;
Demonstrated familiarity with environmental and climate justice;
Demonstrated experience in research or reporting;
Demonstrated comfort with writing on deadline;
Ability to make a full-time, six-month commitment.

Innocent Chukwuma African NGO Leadership Transition Fellowship Program 2022 (Funded)

Applications are open for the Innocent Chukwuma African NGO Leadership Transition Fellowship Program (ICLTFP) 2022. The program started due to the recognition of the urgent need for an NGO leadership transition program to aid sector leaders – civil society and NGO leaders – who are considering transitioning out of their positions in creating a supportive infrastructure. 
The program’s chief purpose is to help sector leaders prepare and position their NGOs to be sustainable, vibrant, and continue to thrive after their exit from the organisation. It would enable both the leaders and organisations successfully make the shift, and in so doing create spaces for a new generation of leaders in the social sector to not only emerge but also have platforms to apply their creative and youthful energies. Transitioning leaders would develop succession plans within their own organisations, contemplate their personal transition plans, and preserve their knowledge and experience.
Program Objectives
The objectives of LTFP in Africa are to:
Contribute to the process of establishing a supportive infrastructure for leadership transition within the NGO movement in Africa.
Promote creation of leadership spaces for next generation of leaders in African civil society to grown and strive.
Increase documentation of leadership experiences/reflections and renewal processes within civil society in Africa.
Funding
Stipend: $3,000 covering living support and associated expenses for one month in South Africa.
Accommodation: one single furnished bedroom either in a studio/one bedroom, or shared apartment with other fellows for one month in South Africa.
Economy class return ticket from home country to South Africa for in person placements at CAPSI
Visa application fees.
Travel Health Insurance.
Eligibility
Applicant must be a Founder/Executive Director of an NGO in Africa, and from Africa, ‘actively’ seeking to transition away from their NGO/CSO;
Have approval from the board to take a sabbatical from work from March – May 2022;
Be above forty (40) years of age;
Have been in the executive leadership position for at least ten (10) years;
Be a full-time paid staff of the NGO;
Be medically fit, certified by qualified medical doctor..

Internet4Good Media Capacity Building Workshop 2021 for Journalists in Ghana

Applications are open for the Internet4Good Media Capacity Building Workshop 2021. The Internet4Good project will engage Ghanaian journalists, media practitioners and freelancers in a 2-day capacity-building workshop to equip local media with the capacity for responsible and nuanced reporting on internet use and abuse.
The rise of negative reporting around internet scams in Africa has contributed to shaping a negative international image, fostered a moral panic around internet use, and, in some cases, deprived young Africans from ethical internet-related opportunities. Moreover, there is an underreporting of not just the social, economic and cultural drivers of internet scam in Africa, but even the numerous positive ways young Africans can use – and are using – the internet.
To counterbalance the effect of this negative narrative, Internet4Good with support from the Bosch Alumni Network seeks to portray a positive narrative about the internet for young Africans while projecting a better image of young Africans within global media. A key insight from the first phase of the project was that local media still faced numerous capacity gaps which contribute to the single story around Africans’ involvement in cybercrime. Some of these gaps include: the lack of local institutions for data verification and fact checking, limited collaborative networking, poor engagement with subject-matter experts and lack of access to, and representation in, global media platforms.

AWJP/ICFJ West African Gender-based Violence Reporting Fellowship 2022 (Stipend available)

Applications for the AWJP/ICFJ West African Gender-based Violence Reporting Fellowship 2022 are now open. Journalists and writers from Nigeria, Ghana and Senegal are invited to apply for a specialised program that aims to examine and expose under-reported topics of violence against women.
The Africa Women Journalism Project, an initiative supported by the International Centre for Journalists in partnership with the Ford Foundation West Africa, has opened a call in Nigeria, Ghana and Senegal to increase the capacity of women journalists to understand the complexity of gender-based violence and exploitation and empower them to cover gender-related issues. Through its program, the AWJP is looking for 60 women journalists interested in revealing the scale of gender-based violence in the target countries.
Benefits
Successful participants will be able to apply for a 9-month Fellowship which will begin from January 2022 to September 2022.
Fellows will receive microgrants to produce data-driven and collaborative reporting projects.
Successful Fellows will also be eligible to apply for larger grants to support the production of more complex, data-driven and investigative reporting projects.
Fellows will also be eligible to apply for grants to lead peer-to-peer training sessions in their own newsrooms where they can share their skills and knowledge thereby establishing themselves as experts in the field.
Fellows will be assigned an experienced story mentor and will convene for regular webinars featuring experts in different fields to enable them to examine gender-related issues of relevance to their communities and how the pandemic is impacting development policies.
Fellows’ stories will be shared on partner newsroom websites, with links on the Africa Women’s Journalism Project’s site as well.
Successful Fellows and their newsroom affiliates will commit to publishing the stories on a monthly basis.
Stipend
The 12 selected fellows will receive a stipend of USD$150 per month (dependent on producing a story a month) to support their reporting over the duration of the fellowship.
Eligibility
Open only to women journalists in Ghana, Nigeria and Senegal;
Applicants must be working journalists with at least three years of full-time, professional journalism experience.
Applicants may be affiliated or freelance journalists.
Applicants must speak, read and write English or French fluently in order to fully participate in and benefit from the Fellowship.
All applicants must submit one story about under-explored issues concerning or intersecting with gender-based violence.
Applicants will commit to publishing at least one story which they will produce within a month of completing the information and training sessions.
Applicants must attend all webinars/information/training sessions scheduled during the program.
Applicants who are successful in the Fellows’ selection process will commit to participating in monthly conversations with their assigned mentor.
Successful applicants will be required to submit a blog of a minimum of 250 words about their experience and learnings from the program for publication on the partners’ and the AWJP websites.
Story Requirements
The story must deal with gender-based violence in either of the targeted countries (Nigeria, Ghana, Senegal).
The story must be relevant to these countries and to the West African region.
Must be well-written and compelling
Must abide by the highest journalistic standards, eg multi-sourced
Utilise data to effectively tell the story
Include images/videos/graphics
In-depth, investigative stories that provide new information or have a unique angle on the issue will be an advantage.
Each story must be published within a month of receipt of the story grant and at the end of the information sessions.
Evaluation Criteria
The applications will be evaluated based on the following:
relevance of the presented story
feasibility, originality of the piece
motivation expressed in the application and journalistic approach.

World Bank ‘Plant Trees, Not Plastics’ Photo/Video Competition 2021 ($1,000 prize)

The World Bank’s Eastern and Southern Africa Region is inviting applications for the ‘Plant Trees, Not Plastics’ Photo/Video Competition 2021. They invite you to tell a story in a 1-minute video, or in a photo or series of photos (three photos maximum) with text detailing innovative actions you or members of your community are taking toward addressing the impacts of plastic waste in your community.
Background
Africa’s ecosystems are increasingly at risk from climate change. Some 20% of Africa’s land surface is estimated to be degraded because of soil erosion, salinization, pollution, and loss of vegetation or soil fertility. This is a result of factors including deforestation, unsustainable agriculture, overgrazing, uncontrolled mining activities, invasive alien species, and, increasingly, climate change.
Simultaneously, plastic waste continues to be a major challenge in the region. It not managed well, it contributes to environmental pollution impacting livelihoods and public health.
Urgent action is needed to tackle these challenges and the World Bank Group is ramping up its support to help countries shape a green, resilient, and inclusive recovery. The World Bank Group’s Climate Change Action Plan, which complements the Africa Climate Business Plan, commits that over the next five years, 35 percent of World Bank Group financing will directly contribute to climate action. Because without rapid deployment of inclusive, climate-informed development throughout the region, 43 million more people could be pushed below the poverty line by 2030.
Prize
The five entries with the most votes will be awarded $1,000 each. The winners will be contacted in February/March 2022 via the email provided with the submission.

Requirements for Video Submissions:
The video must be original and no more than 1 minute long.
Record in English or French in a quiet place (no music or background noise).
Make sure the video is not shaky, the camera must be still while filming.
Listen to your audio before you upload to ensure good audio quality.
Videos should not be digitally or otherwise altered beyond standard optimization.
Requirements for Photo Submissions:
Submit a maximum of three photos. Photos can also be presented as a montage.
Along with your submission, please include key messages detailing the actions in writing.
Photos that have been digitally or otherwise altered beyond standard optimization or copied from elsewhere will be disqualified.
Selection Criteria
A panel consisting of World Bank staff will judge the entries based on originality, creativity/innovation, and sustainability of solutions. The panel will select 10 entries that will be posted online in January/February 2022 for a global audience to vote on.
