One thing I really do love about OPLA is the focus on Garp and Luffy鈥檚 relationship. At the start, it just looked like Garp was angry at Luffy, but in reality, he was worried. He doesn鈥檛 want Luffy to be like Roger, not just because Roger was what Garp hated the most, but because he鈥檚 afraid of Luffy ending like Roger did; executed.
OPLA focuses on the emotional and parental ties between Garp and Luffy, more than so in comparison to manga/anime OP. And it鈥檚 such a refreshing thing to see too; a more dive into Luffy鈥檚 childhood that isn鈥檛 focused on Shanks or the ASL brothers. We get to see a little more into Garp鈥檚 mind too, his anger and heartbreak over Luffy.
Garp is literally Luffy鈥檚 grandfather, and he loves Luffy, but dammit they are on oppsite ends of the same string. Garp being a marine, Luffy being a pirate - the rift between them effects them both just as hard, something both of them have trouble ignoring. Just like the blood in them, stubborness runs just as much. They鈥檙e family, but at the same time, it doesn鈥檛 feel like it. OPLA does a good way of showing this

reading the manga is fucking awesome actually bc i catch so many more little details than i would have otherwise. looking back and knowing more about her character, robin is genuinely DELIGHTED with luffy. i took this screenshot awhile ago so i don鈥檛 remember if this is the first time we see her genuinely laugh or not, but her smile here is a lot different than her other smiles in alabasta. she isn鈥檛 laughing to mock him.
