Warnings: Alcohol.
A/N: Requests are closed! Also I tried my best to write Will dancing but it just didn’t work for me, haha, so I just wrote him celebrating instead :)

“Jesus, Will! What, did you invite half of Chicago?” Jay’s eyes scan the crowd of alcohol bottles covering what seems to be the entirety of his brother’s kitchen counter.
“You know that I’m inviting all the guys and girls we grew up with, right? Like, everyone down the street? And this is Canaryville we’re talking about.” Will says, arranging snacks on his dinner table.
Jay shrugs. His brother does make a point - Canaryville practically instills some degree of alcoholism in all its people and especially knowing the people they grew up with, it was probably a good idea to stock up on the good stuff.
"What time is it?" Will asks and Jay consults his watch. "6:56."
"Alright," Will stands up straight, looking directly at his younger brother. His hands are on his hips, and his face is suddenly so determined like he's about to run through a wall, though with a touch of enthusiasm, as his eyes are shining almost mischievously.
His eyebrows raising, Jay asks. "Ooookay, what's going on?"
Will takes a step forward. "Party's about to start, meaning you can't escape, so now's the best time to tell you."
Goddammit.
"What did you do?" Jay's back is suddenly ramrod straight, and he's terrified of Will, who occasionally has the intellect and planning ability of one of those hyenas from the Lion King.
"Remember my high school classmate Y/N Y/L/N, the pretty one you had a giant crush on?" Will asks, beaming.
Jay frowns. "Yeah, I remember her. I didn't have a giant crush on her. It was like, a normal sized crush."
Will gives him an 'oh-yeah?' look. "You watched Nightmare on Elm Street with us. You hate horror movies."
"I don't - I don't hate horror - you know what, I actually - I just didn't like the film as a, uh, you know, the narrative style was all over the place - " Jay vaguely gestures as he keeps rambling. Upon seeing his older brother's completely unconvinced look, though, he caves.
"Okay fine, I had a huge crush on her. Why're you bringing this up now? And you know what, I should bring up Natalie every once in a while just to rub it in your face - " Jay shoots back, but Will isn't even minutely bothered. Instead, the doctor continues to smile wide at Jay.
It takes a moment before it clicks.
Jay's jaw drops. "Don't tell me - don't fucking - did you - "
Will grins, grabbing Jay by the shoulders and giving him a good shake. "Yeap! She's gonna be here tonight!"
"Holy sh - what the fuck is wrong with you?! I can't - " Jay's outraged yells are cut off by the sound of the doorbell going off, and Will pats him on the shoulder one last time before going to welcome his first few guests.
Jay drops his head in his hands and groans.
He should've just stayed home.
***
"And then Sarah said "Well Mr O'Donoghue, at least I’ve still got hair on my head!"" Mike McLaughlin says, and the entire room bursts into laughter. Sarah Hawkins covers her face with her hands and tries to shrink into Will's side, but he just leans away - "No, no no - you sit here and you get shamed for that Sarah!". Will's comment elicits another laugh from the crowd, and someone else quickly starts pitching in with a story about Will being an idiot in math class. Will shushes them, but Jay shakes his head, pointing at Joey Lawrence with his beer.
"Hold on - Will, can it - what's this about math class I haven't heard before?" Joey Lawrence immediately pulls closer to the edge of the couch and begins his tale.
"It's like, 3 weeks into senior year, right? And Will - aww look at him, he's embarrassed!"
"Joey, I swear to God I'll pay you to stop talking right now." Will tries, but Sarah cuts in. "Joey I will pay you to keep talking!" Jay laughs with everyone else as the two start squabbling.
Suddenly, the doorbell goes off. A sort of silence falls over the crowd as everyone turns to see who the newest guest is going to be. Will gets up and goes to the threshold. He swings the door open.
Jay immediately rises to his feet.
"Y/N Y/L/N!" A chorus of hellos welcome you to the living room. You wrap your arms around Will, whom you haven't seen in ages, and then slowly make your way through the crowd hugging and kissing all these old friends of yours. You don't notice the man in the back, not for a while at least, until Will calls him to your attention.
"Oh, and Jay's here too!" Will announces as everyone settles down, pointing to his younger brother.
Your eyes go wide and you feel a very real, very physical jolt go through your body.
"Hey," He says, shooting you a soft smile and all of a sudden it feels like you're 16 again.
"Hey you," You smile back, tucking a loose strand of hair behind your ear.
"There's drinks in the kitchen - Jay, why don't you help her grab one?" Will suggests. Jay nods, eyes never having left you. He gestures you to follow as he goes to the kitchen, and you do.
"You're looking good," You say, and you mean it fully. Jay was a little scrawny when he was younger - not that that stopped you from having a crush on him - but now he was a real man. Tall, dark, and handsome, with muscles that filled out his shirt in all the right places...
Pulling out a 6-pack of cider, Jay smiles. His green eyes set on you, he gestures towards you. "You look - you look great, as always."
"Ha, now you're just being too nice."
"No, no, it's the truth!" Jay grins, and you find it hard to focus on him while your heart is going haywire in your chest.
He passes you a cold bottle. As your fingers wrap around the neck of the bottle, they brush against his, and again it's like an electric jolt that suddenly zings from the tip of your fingers to the rest of your body.
"So how have you been?" Jay asks, leaning against the kitchen counter. "I didn't even know you were back in town."
You nod, leaning against the counter, next to him. "Yeah, I actually just moved back about 2 weeks ago? And I had to get a medical release form signed for my new job, so I went down to Med and it turns out they actually let Will become a doctor, because he was there." Jay laughs, nodding.
"Yeah I'm still not sure he actually passed med school - he still hasn't shown me his degree, so."
You throw on a faux serious look. "Oh, then he definitely got it Photoshopped. We should call the cops on him."
"Hey, whaddya know," Jay replies, and you raise your eyebrows. He straightens up, reaching into his pockets to pull out his wallet. Out of that, he shows you a business card.
CHICAGO POLICE DEPARTMENT
DET. JAY HALSTEAD
INTELLIGENCE UNIT
"Holy smokes. You're a cop?!" Your mouth is agape and he just nods, putting the card back.
It's subtle, but after he puts his wallet back in his jeans, he leans back against the kitchen counter closer to you than before.
It's probably an accident, though.
"I can't believe you're a cop. I mean, I guess it makes sense." You say, reaching behind you to grab a bottle opener.
It's just a touch out of your reach, and Jay grabs it for you. As he opens your cider for you, he asks. "What do you mean, it makes sense?"
You take a sip, letting the carbonation burn your tongue for a quick second, before swallowing it. "I don't know, you always struck me as that kinda guy. You always had a protective streak in you. Wanted to take care of people, so yeah, I guess it makes sense."
Jay ducks his head, but you can see there's a smile on his face. You lean in a little. "I could see that about you from a mile away. And even if I couldn't, I would've known it from that night we watched Nightmare on Elm Street."
Jay picks his head up immediately. He wags a finger in front of you. "No, no, no - I wasn't scared of it. I wasn't."
You throw your head back laughing at his insistence. "Jay! Will told me you slept in his bed for the next 3 nights!"
Jay's hand wipes down his face. "Okay - first of all, Will's a dick. Second of all..."
"Second of all...?" You repeat, unabashedly full of glee as Jay presses his lips together, unable to come up with a proper excuse. You wouldn't kept badgering him about it, if only you weren't suddenly fixated on his lips...
"Okay, fine, maybe - maybe - there was a slight chance that I was...a little scared." Jay finally admits, and you roll your eyes good naturedly.
"You were terrified." You say pointedly as Jay laughs. "You were absolutely terrified!"
"Well you were scared too!" Jay points out, turning to you. You were both now leaning against the counter on your sides, looking right at each other, and the gap between the two of you was much, much smaller than it was when you first came in. Noticing this made you feel...a certain way. Almost like you were suddenly very brave. Like you just wanted to tell him how you felt, how you think about him randomly at the strangest of times, how since the second you moved out of Chicago, you regretted not asking him how he felt about you.
"I - I was scared. Yeah, of course I was." You admit, looking him right in his eyes. Jay throws his hands in the air exuberantly.
"See! So why the hell did you want to come over and watch it in the first place?" Jay asks, smiling.
You smile back. "It's a girl thing. Watch a horror movie with a guy you like...hope that he puts his arm around you, comforts you, phones you at night to ask if you're okay...you know." You say, and your heart is beating so fast in your chest that it's deafening.
The smile on Jay's face drops, and he ducks his head again, except this time there's something melancholic about it. Your heart sinks.
"Yeah, I guess. Guess I never really got that message." He says, his voice suddenly soft for the first time tonight.
You shrug, trying to look nonchalant even thought your heart feels like its shattering into a million pieces. "It's alright - I don't think I was really ever obvious about it."
Jay lets out a short, shallow laugh. He doesn't say anything for a while, and silence stretches out between the two of you.
You take a sip of your drink, and this time you swallow it immediately.
"I - you might've been obvious, I don't know, I think I just. I think I was just blind to it, because I saw what I wanted to see." Jay clears his throat, frowning. He picks his head up, but he doesn't look at you, staring straight ahead unfocusedly at Will's refrigerator.
"Just thought the pretty girl wanted to hang out with me." He finally says, and when he turns to you, there's a sad smile on his face.
You process Jay's words, and soon your face contorts into a frown.
"That's what I - I mean, I did want to hang out with you." You say, tilting your head.
Jay nods, taking a sip of his beer. "Yeah, yeah, I just meant like. You know. Not just as pals." His voice is so low, so quiet, like he's sharing something so secretive.
"Jay, that's exactly what I meant." You say pointedly, extremely confused. Jay turns to you, equally puzzled. "You came over to watch that movie with Will."
Your eyes go wide, and you laugh like you can't believe this. Shaking your head vehemently, you stop leaning against the counter and straighten up.
"Jay, I wanted to hang out with you! I was too shy to ask you straight up, so Will was like, my in." You explain, and Jay runs his hands down his face, straightening up as well.
"Wait, wait, wait. So you're saying you - you liked me? Me, not Will?"
"Yeah!" You say, with a laugh. "I mean, yeah, I liked Will as a friend, but that's all that was. I came over all the time because I wanted to hang out with you!"
Jay's face splits into a huge grin - one that suddenly reminds you of exactly why you had a crush on him all that time, and all this time, too. "Well, shit." He just says after a moment of silence, and the two of you laugh softly.
You turn to the kitchen counter, putting your bottle down. Jay's still leaning against it, on his side, and he slides over, closing the gap so that your elbow is pressing right against his body. You turn slightly, looking at him through your eyelashes.
With a focused look on his face, Jay brings his left hand up, cupping your face. The feeling of his warm hand against your cheek sets your heart racing even faster than before. He thumbs away the strands of hair falling in front of your eyes, and leans in.
Jay's soft lips capture yours in a gentle kiss, one that's been long overdue. He parts your lips and you give no resistance, instead eager, as the intensity of the kiss leaps. You wrap your arms around his neck as he brings his other hand up to hold your face, and the two of you pull closer and closer, bodies pressed against each other. You and Jay cling to each other, like you're the only real things in the world. Not a single thought runs through your mind, not a single sound in your ears - not a morsel of attention paid to anything that wasn't Jay, that wasn't the two of you melting into each other. When you finally pull apart to breathe and you gasp in air like it's nectar, only then do you realise how close you were to passing out, because you didn't want to let go of him, and he didn't want to let go of you.
You open your eyes, and immediately focus on nothing but Jay's clear green eyes, looking right back at you. He gently strokes your cheeks with his thumb. "That was even better than I imagined all these years..." Jay finally says, and you laugh. "Yeah," You reply, unable to come up with anything witty or clever or sweet, because your mind is still all over the place, and the only thing you can focus on right now is the faint spread of freckles under Jay's eyes and across his nose.
"Are there any Coor's - oh my god!" Will's voice suddenly cuts through your moment. You jump, swivelling around to face your old friend, as Jay quickly grabs your waist, settling you.
Will's eyes are wide, and there's a giant grin on his face.
"Shhh!" You shush him harshly. Thankfully, no one else seems to have heard him.
Will covers his mouth with a hand, and other perched on his hip. "Oh my god!" He repeats, although at least this time it's soft and muffled.
Jay sighs behind you. "Okay just - just please don't say - "
"I told you so! I told you so!" Will whisper-shouts, pointing at both of you. "I've been trying to get you two together since sophomore year and I finally succeeded!"
"Okay just - just stop whatever you're doing," Jay pleads, as Will shakes his fists in the air like he's won Wimbledon.
Rolling you eyes at the older Halstead's actions, you turn back to Jay. "So, you free for a date tomorrow night, Detective?"
Jay grins down at you, wrapping his arms around you tightly. "Of course. Any suggestions?"
"Anything but a horror movie." You reply, and Jay just laughs.

You're sitting at the kitchen island, scrolling through recipes for dinner when you hear the front door open.
"Hey babe," You say, voice a little raised so it can carry to the threshold of your apartment, where you can hear your boyfriend hanging his coat and removing his shoes. Your eyes remain fixed on your laptop screen as Jay pads across your living area and comes up to you. Before you know it, Jay's hugging you from behind, his arms wrapping around your waist loosely as he rests his chin on your shoulder.
You bring your hand up to massage his scalp, leaning your head against his. Jay doesn't say anything, just sighs deeply and that makes you frown.
"Everything okay, babe?"
Jay doesn't say anything for a while and it worries you.
"Jay?" You ask again.
"Rough case." He finally says, and if it weren't for his words you would've guessed it anyway - there was a sense of deep exhaustion in his voice. You feel awful for him.
"I'm so sorry, Jay. Anything I can do for you?" You respond immediately; the only thing on your mind right now is making him feel better. Jay shakes his head. "You're so good for me, Y/N." He whispers, his arms wrapping around you tighter. You feel his fingers pick at the long shirt you're wearing.
You grab one of his hands and bring it up to your lips, kissing it. "You're good for me too, Jay."
There's silence following that, as Jay holds your hand tight, running his thumb over your palm. His finger rubs against a small line of raised skin that goes across your palm.
"I can't believe someone ever hurt you." Jay says after a while, his voice tight. You just shake your head, as you remember the scene - your ex-boyfriend, drunk and convinced you were cheating on him, throwing a glass vase at you. You'd brought your hands up to cover your face, and thankfully there hadn't been any major injuries, but you'd ended up with a bunch of cuts on your arms, including your palms.
"It's alright, it was a long time ago, and it's over now." You tell him just as much as you're telling yourself.
Jay hums, his arms shifting so that his hands now rested right between your legs. You paid no mind to it, not thinking anything dirty, at least until one of his hands gently pulled up your shirt and the other hand ducked beneath it. Jay slowly rubbed the pad of his thumb over the crotch of your panties.
You chuckled softly, turning your head ever so slightly to the right so you could press a gentle kiss to his cheek. Jay turns his face, his stubble gently running over your lips, before he kisses you. It's a soft kiss, slow and deliberate, but you can feel the heat simmering underneath your boyfriend's actions. Right on cue, you feel a finger slipping under the waistband of your panties. Your breathing starts to get heavy and you wrap your arms around Jay's neck, pulling him closer, your ass almost lifting off the tall bar stool you're sitting on. Jay crowds your space, causing you to settle back down and with his free hand he spreads your thighs apart.
A finger gently slips into you, aided by your wetness, and you gasp, breaking off the kiss. You nuzzle Jay's neck, arms wrapping around him even tighter now. Jay - never one to draw things out unnecessarily - slips another finger in, and slowly starts fucking you out.
"Fuck, yeah, just - just like that, oh!" You moan into his warm neck as he picks up the pace. Your body's getting warmer and warmer, and your toes begin to curl.
"Jay, please," You say, your head starting to feel heavy. Wordlessly, Jay starts pressing kisses to your exposed neck, just as his other hand slips under your panties as well.
"Ohhh my god!" You shout as Jay's other hand begins working your clit. You whimper and squeal as the feelings of Jay stroking your clit rhythmically while also fingering you starts to overwhelm you. You can feel a thin layer of sweat on your flushed skin, and you lean more and more into Jay, pressing your body against his helplessly, as he just absolutely ruins you.
"C'mon baby, I know you can do it, come all over my hands," Jay whispers, his voice deep and low, and you nod heatedly, wanting nothing more than to prove him right.
You feel it building, in the depth of your core, a fast-rising warmth that's got your legs shaking and your eyes screwed shut and your mouth slack. You babble to Jay that you're almost there, almost there, and you can barely even hear yourself. And then, it hits you.
"Ohhhh - oh - ah! Ahhhhh!" You cry out, throwing your head back as you ride the waves of pleasure flooding every part of you. You're seeing stars as your mind just reduces completely into a haze and you sag helplessly against Jay's solid body.
He gently pulls his fingers out, the action eliciting a shudder from you and a gasp as you suddenly feel empty. "Don't worry baby, I'll fill you right up after dinner..." Jay murmurs into your ear, pressing a soft kiss to your temple before grabbing tissues for the both of you. You stay leaning against him as your mind tries to clear through the fog. When you eventually open your eyes you look up at a pair of beautifully clear sea-green eyes staring right back at you like you’re the most amazing thing he’s ever seen.
"I can't put into words how good it feels, watching you come like that." Jay says, and your lips curve into a smile. "You like watching me happy," You reply, pressing a chaste kiss to his lips.
"Of course I do, it's my favorite sight in the world." Jay winks, and you chuckle, swatting at his arm. You rest your head against his chest and hear the steady thumping of his heart, and it makes you feel safe and loved in a way you’d never felt before.
"Y/N...” Jay starts, and you hum in response. “I - I can't believe someone hurt you in your past, but I want you to know I would never do that." Jay speaks so earnestly your eyes are tearing up. You think of all the horrible things your ex did to you, how he hurt you, and how on the darkest of days you thought to yourself that you were never going to be happy the way you are right now. Jay holds your face in his hand, tilting it up towards him so you can see the serious look in his eyes.
"For the rest of my life, I'm going to make you happy. That's all I want to do, that's all I'm going to do."
Breathing deeply, you try to tell your heart to settle, but it seems to be rattling vehemently against your rib cage.
"Jay?" You ask, because you feel like the two of you are on the cusp of something.
Jay just looks down at you, his eyes slightly wet as well.
"I didn't really plan this - I mean I knew it was happening at some point, but I didn't really - I don't even have a ring, but uh, I just. I love you so much, so - " He clears his throat, and you sit up straight, a tear rolling down your cheek, as you hold your breath. "Y/N Y/L/N, will you marry me?"
"Yes, of course - yes!" You answer, jumping at Jay with so much force that he gets knocked back a little, but he doesn't care and neither do you - he's carrying you with your legs wrapped around his body, and your hands are holding his face as the two of you touch foreheads, tears streaming down your faces.
"I love you, Y/N." Jay says after a while, smiling softly.
"I love you too, Jay." You whisper back, your heart feeling so full of love.
