You know what I love about Damen?

We learn from the snippets we get out of conversations and descriptions of other characters or Laurent‘s thirsty ass comments that Damen isn’t only muscular and handsome, no, he‘s hot as fuck, the unanimously voted Akielon version of „Sexiest Man Alive“, a king people would speculate decades later whether he really was that gorgeous or whether his people glorified him.

And that God Of A Man didn’t think about his attractiveness once. He doesn’t think about how Erasmus reacts to him, he only thinks about Erasmus‘ beauty. He doesn’t take Laurent’s compliment in Ravenel for granted, he radiates joy afterwards as if he‘s really surprised. He filters every fucking lewd comment one of the soldiers make about him out and just doesn’t notice them.

That man is so unaware of his own beauty and effect, I can’t even begin to tell how much I respect and adore him for it.

I like to think a lot about how Damen and Laurent And their politics are perceived and written by historians in the future and I like to think about academic discourse they’d inspire amongst historians:

Whether or not they were lovers: a lot of “Damianos formed a close friendship with Laurent of Vere over his time in captivity” Would dismiss the lovers theory with the time frame, with “While Laurent VI was most likely homosexual there’s no evidence Damianos has any such inclination” while pointing to his string of female lovers and slaves (Poor Damen is 7 your record didn’t outlive him); Cue in Millenial historians with a record scratch like “They built a palace together. Damianos was at Laurents coronation which was held at Delpha, their border. They wanted to unite two historically feuding countries. Together. Discovery of Jokaste. Books of speculation on her role in the empire. “None” -tired student trying to write a paper on her at 2am but literally all evidence is speculation because where were the women in this time period.

Books on Auguste and his promising childhood and princehood. Ironically is overshadowed in the end by Laurents accomplishments. A bit of a forgotten prince himself. Debate about where his rule would have taken Vere.
