Feeling nostalgic for some zutara </3

I finally got that final push to draw these two. A piece commissioned by @zukoshonours !

Day 1: Vigilantes

“This is crazy! I can’t believe I let you talk me into doing this.”

On the other side of a small, wooden table situated in a dimly lit corner of one of the many sea-front taverns of Linfen, a bustling port town in the Western Earth Kingdom, Zuko sat watching Katara with a look caught halfway between unimpressed and distressed.

Katara scowled right back. “It’s not like I had much of a choice, you know,” she informed him tetchily. “There’s no way I could bring Aang. He’s way too recognizable. Not to mention flamboyant. He’d get us caught immediately.”

Zuko placed an elbow on the table and dropped his forehead onto his palm, his fingers sliding up into his hair. “It’s not asking me to help you that I have a problem with. It’s what you’re asking me to do. You do realize that if I get caught pretending to be a pirate, it’s going to turn into a huge scandal for the Fire Nation.”

“The Fire Nation is already facing international scandal if we don’t find out who’s selling poached elephant-whale ivory to the members of your court. And besides, I’ve yet to hear any better suggestions.”

Day 1: Vigilantes

A little something I drafted for the first day of @thirtydaysofzutara! I may turn it into a slightly longer one-shot, but for now, the basic premise is that Katara kept the Painted Lady persona, breaking it out any time she heard about some injustice being done in the Fire Nation, to the point where the FN soldiers decided to lay a trap to catch her. It doesn’t exactly go well.

Something was wrong.

Katara knew it almost as soon as she entered the building. For one thing, it was quiet—too quiet. The report she’d seen (read: stolen from a Fire Nation soldier, but kept to herself, because if Sokka or Aang knew she was still going out at night as the Painted Lady any time she heard of some injustice being done in the Fire Nation that she thought she could fix, especially now that they were in a city and maintaining their covers was more important than ever… at best they’d just try to stop her, so it was better for everyone involved if they didn’t know in the first place) had said that a group of refugees had been caught trying to sneak over the border. Further, at least one of them was suspected of being an undercover assassin, and the entire group was to be held here for processing before the trial—where they would all be executed if the assassin wasn’t given up.

A rewrite of the aftermath of Katara deciding not to kill Yon Rha in Southern Raiders. I had planned to have it all done for day 1 but it looks like I’ll be posting it in chunks throughout the month.

They hadn’t gotten as far as he would have liked after their confrontation with Yon Rha when Katara had broken down. Silent, heaving sobs wracked her body and as much as they needed to make their way back to Appa, to escape the Fire Nation authorities that were no doubt on their trail, Zuko couldn’t make himself interrupt her grief.

He averted his eyes from her to keep watch and not because seeing her like this made him feel the need to hold her. He knew– because he knew her now– that her crying was just as cathartic, just as important as confronting her mother’s killer had been. The emotions could no longer be ignored and stockpiled. This is what she needed. But when he looked at her, small and trembling in the fresh mud, he wanted to be able to protect this moment. Once they moved, it would be broken. Once they were safe in the sky, miles away, he knew she wouldn’t continue on like this. And he wished she would allow herself to scream now while the emotions were erupting. He would fight a troop of fire benders if it meant she could add a voice to her anguish.   

Instead, any sounds she made were easily drowned out by the heavy rain. Even broken and crying she was determined to do what needed to be done. So he kept watch and promised them both she would never have need of another moment like this ever again.

A very Zuko move. Totally blowing it at flirting. 

This was honestly one of the first scenes that came to mind the first time I set out to do a Zutara!Mulan AU piece. It’s a little further down the line, but I’m glad I finally got to do it. Yay!

It was a hella fun ride, but I think this is the last Zutara!Mulan AU piece I’ll be doing. No worries though. I’ll still be doing other Zutara stuff, just in case anyone is wondering. Well, I really hope you guys like this. Okaythanksbye!

Zutara month Day 14: Beauty and the Beast

AU Katara, bloodbending princess of the Southern Water Empire, captures the Blue Spirit, elusive resistance fighter

Day 1 - Fire Lady After breakfast, the Fire Lord and Fire Lady always walks in the palace side by side. Most of the time, Zuko just listens and lets Katara do all the talking. 

My stupid ass thought that Zutara week starts on Monday, so here I am with my late entry.

Zutara Week 2017: Fire Lady

I want a fic where Katara is having trouble acclimating to being the Fire Lady, mostly because others in the palace haven’t accepted her yet and don’t see her as being Fire Nation enough. Meanwhile, Zuko keeps giving her blue accessories because they remind him of her and he likes giving her pretty things and she doesn’t know how to tell him to stop. :)
