I really like the Sandia. It is a great food pairing beer.

Today’s side by side was Watermelon Gose beers. First up was Gose Con Sandia, a sour ale with watermelon, limes & sea salt, from Avery Brewing out of Boulder, CO. Man this was excellent, a little tart with a sweetness on the finish. The watermelon comes through up front, then the lime & a salty sweetness in the finish. Next up was Salted Watermelon Crusher, a sour watermelon gose, from Nothing’s Left Brewing out of Tulsa, OK. Hints of watermelon but not much sour, this is actually a very refreshing but slightly sweet beer. Also not much salt. Overall I liked the Crusher but I loved the Con Sandia.

Delicious Salted Caramel Yeti Imperial Stout brownies with bourbon vanilla whipped cream. Decadently rich with dark chocolate, the salted caramel hides right in the background. This is the kind of dessert that you love to savor.

We’re raising our glasses to our friends at Callister, and looking back at all the memorable beer and good times we had there over the past 10 years. This lovely brewery was a regular stop for us as part of the Yeast Van hop and gallery circuit, and we also got to brew a beer there with Diana. We’re sad this unique, collaborative brewery will be closing, but look forward to seeing what the future holds ... cheers to you Chris and Diana!

Chicken and ham chocolate mole on black bean tostadas paired with this season's Beaujolais nouveau. It goes very well with spicy food, and I am glad we picked up a bottle.

Trying out some seasonal beers for the holiday. The Rye on Rye by Boulevard in my crackle glass is an amazing big beer. Love the peppery spice and whiskey notes. The Jubelale Winter Ale by Deschutes in the beer chemistry glass is a seasonal delight (since 1988). Both are cozy up by the fire and enjoy brews.

Cooking for Thanksgiving tonight and trying out Strawberry LaLager by Lady Justice Brewing. Very nice and pairs well with food. The strawberry does not overwhelm the beer at all, and it has a nice crispy Lager mouthfeel. Definitely want to try other beers by this brewery!

I think the Golden or Pale Coffee beers are extremely interesting. The flavor profiles, when pushed away from the typical roasted base beer (I think), become more complex. I typically like them quite a bit and this one is a good example.

Went to the art museum for the afternoon and finishing off the day with live music and beer at New Terrain Brewing. The weather is gorgeous, the beer is (as always) excellent, and who doesn't love live music (Jackie Straw). FYI, Joshua Tree with spruce tips is worth a taste...

Beer and food before our show. At the Left Hand RINO location right across the plaza. I am excited for a night out. Seeing Nickel Creek and really looking forward to it.

I really enjoyed this one. The pumpkin spice does not overwhelm the brown sugar and dark fruit of the base stout.

Obtained at Smart Time Food from Grand Terrace, California for $6.99, Trail Mix Stout is an imperial pastry stout with cocoa nibs, coconut flakes, apricot purée, peanut butter powder, and milk sugar crafted in collaboration between Untitled Art and Humble Forager Brewery from Waunakee, Wisconsin.
The air yields chocolate, peanut butter, and apricot upon the nose. The appearance is dark brown that pours a low khaki head that dissipates quickly with no lacing. When held up to light, a cinnamon hue gleams around the edges of the glass. A pecan tint shows when light reflects off the beer. The alcohol content is 10%.
Chocolate is fairly rich, lightly malts the touch, and deepened by roasted malt. Apricot purée smoothens the drink, tasted when you lick your chops, and accompanied with coconut along with a lactose hue and a slight salty tinge from milk sugar. Peanut butter powder merges with the chocolate, apricot purée, coconut, and milk sugar blend. Cocoa nibs mildly bitters the take, and enriches the nutty sensation. Raisins are easily picked out during the relatively dry finish.
Trail Mix Stout is a voluptuous imperial pastry stout. Chocolate and roasted malt, apricot purée, coconut, milk sugar, peanut butter powder, cocoa nibs, and raisins merges into a savory craft beer. Apricot purée makes it easy to drink this strong libation as cocoa nibs bitters the take. Apricot purée, coconut, and milk sugar pastes the chocolate and roasted malt, peanut butter powder, and cocoa nib combination. Apricot purée and the malty composition fairly weighs the body, which is painted by cocoa nibs and peanut butter powder, and accented by milk sugar. Chocolate malt, raisins, apricot, and peanut butter powder leaves a lasting impression upon the relatively dry finish. I cherished every single drink, and enjoyed how the apricot purée, coconut flakes, and milk sugar coalesces together.
Cheers. Prost. Drink for the love of beer.

No set of beer postings from Gen Con 2023 would be complete without pictures of the ubiquitous official beer of the convention. Sun King Brewing Hive Mind English Style Honey Mild Ale. It was fun, and the honey did not overwhelm the beer. Given the roasty weather and the plethora of food trucks, it was not a bad choice at all. It paired well with so many foods.

While in Indianapolis for Gen Con, we stopped by St. Joseph's Brewery. It is inside a beautiful old church. They have terrific food, excellent service, and a very tasty beer menu (my apologies for the poor flight picture). They even did a beer for the convention. This is on my stop list for the next convention!

Spent and evening in Lawrence, KS, and had to try one of the local breweries for dinner. Lawrence Beer Company. I loved the renovated old building in the warehouse district. The beers, Big Peach Saison, and S.I.P. on this Pilsner, totally fun. The food (Thunderbird Burger & East Side Burger) was delicious, and the service was excellent. I'm not going to lie. I would go back in a heartbeat.
