Quote of the Day – John D. McDonald
Quote of the Day… not actually daily, but whenever I encounter one I think worth sharing and there are not too many in sequence. I like quotes as they frequently distill a piece of wisdom into a brief passage, or make other points very succinctly – such as the witticisms of Oscar Wilde.

Raye live at SWR3 New Pop Festival 2023
If you got an hour to spend, this is an incredible concert Raye did in Baden-Baden, Germany. She plays all the songs off her debut album, 21st Century Blues, and a few more. She also talks in between songs about the roots of each song which I found very interesting. She has hip hop/rap roots, so at times, the language is a little rough, but that is the state of music now days. Don’t let that…

Raye... Oscar Winning Tears (Live at the Royal Albert Hall)
For many years Saturday Night Live had entered a trough that made it less than must watch TV. Aside from that, over much of its history the music acts were far from my favorite part of the show.
This season seems to be a different story with the artists they are bringing on. I saw this young lady (same age as my oldest granddaughter) , Raye, on SNL and enjoyed it sufficiently enough to buy…

Review Accepted!
I write a fair number of online reviews…I did so even before I retired! While I will write reviews on many websites, they are concentrated on a few. I am fairly active on Tripadvisor. I am a Top 100 reviewer on Wondrium (Great Courses), which sells and streams educational videos. And, of course, Amazon, although I am hit and miss on there as to whether I review a purchase or not.
I have never…

Word of the Day - Epigone
Word of the Day… not actually daily, but whenever I encounter one I think worth sharing and there are not too many on my landing page. Words have always fascinated me, and I am a fan of all types of word play, especially puns. I have a hard time not looking up a word that I am unfamiliar with or not sure of the definition. I like those authors that stretch me by throwing in unexpected terms. …

Vanity Plate for the Day – LTR G8R
Vanity Plate of the Day… not actually daily, but whenever I encounter one in the wild that I think worth sharing and there are not too many in sequence. When I was commuting from my home to downtown St. Louis and back, I was spending anywhere from an hour and half to two hours daily in rush hour traffic. I used the exercise of deciphering vanity plates to help pass the time… plus sometimes they…

Rev. Joe’s Random Thought #2,811
yeah I know you did not ask!
You should so be blessed – well cursed at times actually – with a mind such as mine, making all these weird connections between my rumored neurons. Just be thankful that I do not share all of my random thoughts.
Sitting on the throne, reading a book of trivia, I just discovered that the average American spends 6 months of their lives waiting at red lights.
This made…

Life is not ALL bad
The whole 16 years of our relationship, including the last 11 years of wedded bliss, Señora and I have slept in a queen size bed. It was plenty of room for the two of us as we both like to touch at least a square centimeter or two of the other person’s skin as we sleep.
However, we both have back problems. Señora’s are logarithmically worse than mine. We have swapped our three queen size…

Don't wear them short socks...
I was in Columbia, Illinois at the first convenience store you encounter when you cross the Mississippi River into Illinois. I stop there as it is cheaper to buy a soft drink for my round of golf there instead of at the golf course.
As I was standing in line a fellow came up behind me toting a 12 pack of Busch Light and talking on his cell phone a little loud, which is what caused me to notice…

Surely I am not the only male to look over at his woman’s side of the bathroom and be totally mystified.
Some of the devices, for all the world, look like…

Bottle of Tequila - Revisited
I generally do not recycle articles. I also do not write a lot of fiction, but once a decade or so a story pops into my mind. When I do write fiction it is generally triggered by some story I have heard or something that has happened to me. Then my “imagination” runs wild extrapolating on of the former. Or sometimes – according to Señora about stories of her – I just make s*** up. Generally,…

Chopping wood, folding t-shirts…
Recently I experienced my 26,298 rotation of this planet we call home. This triggered the lever that counts the number of orbits around the star we call The Sun, setting it at 48 (in hexadecimal) total revolutions, beginning the 49th.
All these largish numbers put me in a reflective mood, a pensive mood, going over what has transpired in all those rotations and orbits. All I could come up with…

National Siblings Day - April 10, 2024
For the sake of truth in advertising, I kept looking for an image of brothers going at each other, fighting tooth and nail. All I could were horribly saccharine, the one above being the less mawkish of the bunch.
My take… the greeting card industry is at it, again.
However, it does have a touching back story. Read about it here: National Siblings Day
And so it goes.
