ANNA let out an almost longing sigh. she cupped her face in her hands as she looked up at the artist. “ so she’s just as beautiful in person as in your dreams? ” she asked with a slight tilt of the head. she couldn’t help but be curious. the people seemed to meet the characters in their respective dreams, the more she wondered if they lived up to expectation. she furrowed her brow at the idea jack’s art wasn’t impressive, even if it was just a napkin sketch. “ i find that hard to believe, ” she let her hands drop. “ anything you sketch or draw or paint is amazing … maybe you need to show her your real stuff !! ooh ! you should bring her by the gallery, when i’m showing your stuff ! surely, that will impress her !! ”
“ even more so. ” he grinned. the two of them were a similar kind of wistful when it came to love, though he could tell she was more open about it and he tried to bury it in his art -- dreams of a place that didn’t exist, a life far worse than the one he actually had, but a band of brothers and a very pretty girl helping him. “ you think ?? ” jack considered it for a minute. he actually hadn’t given much thought to how he’d impress her, just how to prove to her they were fated to be together. “ it’d definitely show off a bit... ” something he was never against doing. “ i dunno, i gotta see if i’m even gonna run into her again. ”

as she was refused a peek, KATHERINE leaned back. “ you are the most impossible boy … ” she said with a shake of the head. “ ever. ” she crossed her arms, pursing her lips slightly as she was forced to wait. when he finally finished, she leaned against the bar top as a smirk started to spread on her lips. she gingerly accepted the napkin. she was initially stunned with silence; her eyes widening as she examined the sketch. her lips parted slightly, but no words came out yet. she looked up, eyeing the bartender. “ i suppose that’s true, ” she mused. in truth, no one had drawn her before ( except in a dream once … wait, was that what this reminder her of ??? ) her gaze returned to the napkin once more, handling it with a delicate touch. a soft smile formed on her lips. “ i’d almost bet you’re always sketching your patrons when you’re bored, though. but hey, at least i know you’re not lying about being an artist. ”
“ thanks. ” he grinned, looking up at her with a wink and taking the comment as a compliment. jack chewed on his cheek a bit as she looked at it, and knew he could ( in theory ) do better, but hoped she liked it nonetheless. “ actually, my specialty is landscapes. ” he knew it was crazy to think that she was actually the girl from his dreams, but she looked so familiar and acted the same way she had -- he just didn’t have a name for the face. but even with how crazy it was, he had a series of portraits with her face on them before he’d ever seen her in person. and he debated on telling her just that, but something said she wasn’t the type to actually listen to something like that. no, she was more of a hard facts kinda gal, so he couldn’t just say it flat out -- at least not right away. “ i’ve only ever drawn and painted one person. ”

ORPHEUS couldn’t help the smile that formed on his lips. “ the gods, yes, ” he said with a smile. “ hades was king of the underworld, ” his voice matching the melody he continued to instinctively play without meaning to. “ he fell in love with persephone, who was gathering flowers in the light of the sun, and he took her home to become his queen … ” however, now was not the time for whole song and rhyme, now was it? thus, his strumming stopped. “ no reason, really … ” he shrugged. “ it’s just a story i think about a lot. “
bram smiled a bit as the other sang, instantly ready to listen to him sing an entire concert right then and there. but when he stopped, bram smiled kindly. “ why’d you stop ?? that was really good. ” he thought about the gods and what he knew about them from his little knowledge of greek. “ she would go to the underworld for the winter right ?? and that’s what the greeks thought caused the seasons, and she’d come back in the springs and flowers would bloom again ?? ”

she had to fend off the urge to roll her eyes as he took about a thousand years to actually reply to her. “ it’s becoming less and less you by the second, ” she said, tapping her wrist where a watch might have been but wasn’t. no rhythm. on this, a day when katherine pierce needed to dance and drink, he had ‘no rhythm’? literally why did everything happen to her. she made a face before tossing her hair over her shoulder, letting out the world’s most long suffering sigh while yanking her bottle from the bar top. “ well, duh. ” katherine then took the seat beside him, the bottle hitting the table. “ here— drink. obviously we have work to do now, you and i. you have to use your rhythm detecting skills to find me a replacement. ”
he laughed nervously as she tapped her wrist. bram wasn’t the best with social situations -- in fact, he tended to stay out of them, not for fear of embarrassment but more for the fact he enjoyed being alone. but he needed a change of pace and the bar seemed like the closest and best place. but she seemed cool ( cooler than anyone he’d ever been friends with, which was kind of intriguing to him ) and he came out for a change, didn’t he ?? picking up the bottle before taking a small sip. “ okay, tell me how you tell if someone has rhythm and i’ll be all the help i can be. ”

No, it was just Simon’s luck that he would run into someone undeniably attractive while he was trying to figure his shit out. But wait, didn’t he know him? Simon swore they used to go to school together. He dug deep into his mind to try and figure out the name of the man standing in front of him. Bryce? Brian?
“Bram, right?” Simon asked, looking him up and down for a moment. “We went to school together ages ago. I think we had some classes together.” He chuckled softly, but his smile quickly fell short. “I’m fine. Just… lost in thought. Trying to figure my head out. Figured this would be the perfect place to do that, you know?”
he smiled a bit when he recognized him, nodding with his hands in the pockets of his sweatpants. it took him looking up for bram to actually place a name with the face, but he nodded after a moment. “ yeah, i remember. ” something he could actually pinpoint as real -- outside of the weird out-of-place memories he seemed to have these days.
“ ah. ” he nodded in understanding. his own head was filled with conundrums and problems he couldn’t find solutions to. ( then again, problem solving was never his strong suit. he stuck to team plays and sentence structures. ) “ this is definitely the right place. i usually come up here when i need to clear my head, too. ” he looked over the view before motioning to the seat next to simon. “ mind if i join you ?? i’m not looking forward to the run all the way back to my apartment. ”

Henry stared at his own paper, pondering over whether or not it’d be appropriate to ask Bram to look over a few chapters when he was done with his grading. It all felt like rubbish, but he had a deadline coming up and if he didn’t finish it soon, his poor editor would probably lose her mind. He hummed at the question, looking up from the same line he’d been staring at for the past ten minutes. “I recall it was something about nurturing the youth, in hopes of creating a better future? That, or you’re a sadist. I can’t remember.” He laughed, setting his pencil down. “Surely there’s got to be one good one in the bunch.”
bram laughed, shrugging. “ maybe it was a combonation of the two. ” he joked, leaning back in his chair a bit. “ they’re not bad... ” he paused, glancing back down at the stack. it was true, they weren’t, they just... weren’t the best, either. “ it’s more frustrating because i know they can write better and they aren’t. ” he sighed, shaking his head. “ or maybe i’m being too critical ?? i just feel like they can all do better. i mean, this was supposed to be a fun assignment. ” then again, his idea of ‘ fun ’ wasn’t exactly on par with kids these days.
