Hypothetically pheromones? And also the vast majority of males and females have different bone structures and other differences that idr rn. Also simply societal expectations about these people. Its not foolproof, but people often have attraction based on apparent femininity or masculinity. Not everyone though (hi pansexuals!). There's honestly something different about romantic attraction with men and women for me. I don't know how to describe it, but I know it's there. Sexual attraction is a whole other fucking thing but that at least makes more sense.

Second question: are we thinking all people but with different attraction by gender, all people with no regard to gender, only certain genders with a preference, only certain genders with no difference between them? These are just a few different ways feelings might decide to feelings, but it's a starting point.

Not a thing people can control? Basic answer: humans are animals and generally have the innate attraction to people with whom they can continue the species (in most circumstances).
