Ritual 1 Review
Below are some of my thoughts on the first ritual I completed. In this ritual, I had to use calling exclusively for communicating with people.
It is not necessarily a difficult thing to do per say, but there were a few ups and downs. My biggest mistake was thinking that the ritual had started earlier than it had. So apparently it felt like forever before I was able to text again.
It made me realize how often I do text and email people though. Sometimes I like to just randomly take a picture or text someone when I think/see something that reminds me of them. I actually stopped doing it this past week because I couldn’t. It never made me feel more inclined to call them, it just made me less likely to interact with a lot of people.
Over that week I actually had phone calls with like 5 people, whereas texting I could talk with 20+ people in a week. This was the biggest change up, just the amount of communication I had.
It did also make me use social media less because I couldn’t like or share different things I saw, so I felt weird being on there and lurking or posting vague things, but then not being able to interact with other people on my posts.
I found myself making lists of things I wanted to talk with people about, and either calling them once the list was long enough or telling them the next time I saw them in person. Because if I think a random thought, I’m not going to just call someone like 20 times a day with those things. As much as I normally don’t post a ton on social media, I do actually share a good portion of my life, just with specific people.
There were also times I completely forgot to call/get in touch with certain people because I’d see their texts and then say “oh I should call them when I can”. By the time I could though, I couldn’t remember. That was a big cycle I got stuck in with some people. Also, if it was someone I literally just didn’t want to talk to on the phone and open that door for a long conversation, then I just let the connection slide too...

Amendment 1
Make sure everything is disposed of properly. The goal isn’t simply to “throw away” 10 things a day, but make sure they are going to the right places for continuing their lifecycle.

Todays finds include:
1. 2 quart containers of chalkboard paint
2. 1 bluetooth keyboard and tablet stand
3. lap laptop stand
4. MSR fuel pump (unused)
5. 2x Sunglasses
6. Makeup brush
7. Earrings
8. MSR superfuel (opened/partially used)
9. Paint Palette
10. Puma Sneakers
Disposal will be different for some of these products.
I’m going to try and sell the CDs, MSR Fuel Pump, and bluetooth keyboard on eBay (my first time selling via eBay).
The fuel I think I can take to REI and they can help me with proper disposal.
Shoes, earrings, laptop stand, paint palette, and sunglasses will go to Matthew 25 or some other donation center.
The paint is latex so it just needs to be dried and then recycled.
The makeup brush is the only thing I have to throw away. The handle is made of grey REN foam, and at that scale, it’s not possible to get disposed of properly.

Day 1+2 cont.
Both of these bookshelves used to be crammed to the max with double layers of books and books stacked on top and in any empty space. We actually can use them as some kind of storage eventually...
As for disposal, we gave them all to the giant library warehouse in Ohio for them to sort through and put into their system.

Day 1+2
Day 1 and 2 involved clearing out mine and my mothers’ book shelves. There are so many books we have that we either have read or don’t plan on reading. So it made sense to just donate the ones that we didn’t need. In the end we donated around 100 books from classics like “The Diary of Anne Frank” and “Of Mice and Men”, modern best sellers like “The Hunger Games Trilogy” and “The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants”, and even some texts books of my dad’s from college because he’s a hoarder with math/science titles I won’t type here.

Ritual 2 Redo
Initially I was planning on doing my second ritual as sleep at a different place each night, but then health-wise that became a little impossible. I committed to this being a low stress semester, so I could tell when my body was like “um...excuse, calm down”. So I needed to change it to be something less physically involved. In brainstorming a new concept, I found not only new ritual 2 (see next post), but also ritual 3 (be patient)
