I've been told that damned "Use your common sense" bullshit more times than I can count. I'm pretty sure that's one of many sources for my self-confidence issues that still result in depressive spirals to this day, since I pretty much was repeatedly told "You should have known this on instinct, you're just stupid" and "Why can't you understand this thing on the first try?
