Both Shining and Light briefly glanced at Boom, who appeared to be entirely unphased, even after he had narrowly survived Ember's confrontation, and his subsequent fall from a great height right into the smouldering campfire; but Light merely shook their head as they let out an immense sigh, before they turned around again, and politely asked Shining for his help in preparing meals for the group.
Although Boom audibly chuckled when Shining eagerly nodded in response, neither he nor Light looked at him, and instead, they shuffled around each other to grab what they needed from all the satchels that laid scattered about; and when the water finished boiling, as they poured it into a small cup, Light asked Shining to grab some of the broth from their satchel, so Summer at least had something.
It took some time for Shining to dig through everything Light had packed, until he was finally able to find a packet of bouillon cubes, which he carefully tossed their way; but before he could figure out how such a massive pack could fit in their satchel, yet still leave room to spare for countless other ingredients, and many cans and jars of preserved foods, Light kindly gave him a cup of broth.
When he looked at the others, to his surprise, Shining found that Summer and Boom were both already drinking some hot broth from their own cups, while Light was busy mixing a pile of dough in a bowl; and after they put the dough aside to rise, they told Shining they were going to check on the three Dragonesses, both to make sure that they were all right, and to bring them something warm to drink.
Just as they leapt out of the dried creek, they quickly asked Shining to keep one eye on the dough, and the other on the pot they had hung over the fire, so it would not overflow, before they stepped out of sight, leaving him incredibly confused at their sudden and massive setup; and he wondered in silence whether Light had enchanted their satchel, which he figured held far more than met the eye.
But his thoughts were interrupted by a delicious smell that seemed to emanate from the big pot, and Shining quickly got up to stir whatever it was Light was cooking, which he found was a hearty stew, filled to the brim with all sorts of vegetables; and Shining started to look for a small spoon, but stopped on the way to clean his hooves, when he found that Light had managed to pack soap, as well.
After he had dried his hooves, Shining felt his stomach growl, to the amusement of Boom and Summer, whereafter he tasted a mere spoonful of the stew, and swiftly judged that it did not contain enough salt, as it had been diluted too much; but he only added a hoofful at a time, continuously stirring the mix to let it stew evenly, which he knew needed more time for the flavours to come to fruition.
For a little while, Shining shifted back and forth between stirring the stew and kneading the risen dough, which he covered again, and placed close to the fire to let it rise more, while also keeping an eye on both Boom and Summer, who politely asked him for more broth; and Shining moved around the campfire with ease to bring the two some more broth, while Light listened to the three Dragonesses.
Fortunately, Nox and Inferno had managed to calm Ember down enough that she was not only willing to explain, but open to listening to the advice they gave her, too, occasionally pausing to drink from the cups of broth Light had given them, which they greatly appreciated; but she could not look past Boom's complete lack of respect, especially since he did not even give her the chance to apologise.
If she had known that her voice was enough to startle awake that little Diamond Dog Cur, about whom he clearly cared more than almost anything, she would have at least tried to make the initiative to watch her tone; but after the others kindly told her to avoid that word when talking about Courage, Ember sighed deeply, and quietly said that she should just go, as she was clearly not welcome here.
But as soon as she said this, Nox and Inferno both gently grabbed her claws, and sweetly told her:
"We can tell you are not yourself. Come, at least join us for some food, and you may decide then."

Before anyone could react to the massive funnel that was rapidly falling towards them, it enveloped Boom, and touched the ground in the middle of the group, right on top of the smouldering remains of the campfire; and after the intense wind that followed it a mere moment later had pushed the others backwards at great speed, they realised that they were unhurt, and saw Boom on the doused campfire.
Dreading that the Green Unicorn had impacted the ground at terrifying speed, worsened by the sudden and nigh inexplicable tornado funnel that had seemingly blown him down quicker, Light leapt up from where they landed, and ran over to make sure that Boom was all right; but when they jumped into the dried creek that held their untouched supplies, Light noticed that Courage was sitting next to him.
Despite often having witnessed his incredible healing ability first-hoof, and having little concern that he would not swiftly make it back even from the brink of death, Light still knew that it would take time for him to recover, so they knelt down to reassure Courage; but just as they pet the Pup, Light felt their heart skip a beat, and they snapped to look at Boom when a hoof touched their leg.
No sooner had their terrified heart returned to a regular rhythm when it was stopped once again, as Boom started to get up with a loud and painful groan, and it took a moment for Light to dash to his side to tell him to rest, and to let his body heal for a while; but to their confusion, Boom merely quietly chuckled in response, and as he sat upright, he told them that he was all right and unhurt.
The tone in which he spoke felt warm and calm, and nowhere near as frightening as when they were on the Great Volcano, but Light still trod carefully, and solemnly asked Boom if he was certain he did not need any rest, to which he shook his head; for while his voice did ache somewhat because of his fearful screaming, when the funnel washed over him, he steadily slowed down until he softly landed.
Since he saw they had to run towards him from a significant distance away, Boom continued, he had a feeling that he was even less injured than they, and all the others who were frozen in place around the campfire, while he fell to his doom; but Light merely let out a deep sigh, before they told him they were glad he was all right, even if they struggled to understand how this could have happened.
At that moment, Light heard a familiar voice speak up behind them, before it told them that it felt hurt, as if they had already forgotten about the one being in their company who had a connection to the air around them, and who had helped them before; and when Light turned around, they saw Summer, breathing heavily as he slowly wandered towards them, wearing a small, but proud smile on his face.
Just as Ty sank through his legs, Light was able to catch him, and they glanced between the sky and the Young Kirin in their arms incredulously, as if they could not believe that he managed to create a tornado over their heads; but even though they did not utter a word, Summer knew what they wanted to say, so he sweetly chuckled, and told them it was one of his most powerful and taxing abilities.
Perhaps, in due time, Ty added, he could teach them how to harness such a destructive force for the better, although he figured they would have to find a place close to water, just in case their fire got out of control; but that was for another moment, and for now, he would greatly appreciate it if he could rest with a meal, for he was exhausted, and it had been some time since he had last eaten.
With a kind smile on their face, Light solemnly nodded to Summer, and they carefully helped him lie down on their mat, before they gave Boom a hoof to get up and out of the campfire, before they once again lit it up with a flick of their tail; and they grabbed a flat stone, which they put down on a couple of other rocks that surrounded the campfire, and placed a kettle on top of it to boil water.
A little while later, only Shining returned to sit by the fire, before he quietly said:
"Nox and Inferno are keeping Ember company. She is rightfully upset, in many ways…"

Save for Boom, only Shining was somewhat aware as to what the song he was singing was about, but it was even more obvious that the others could not see past the words he uttered, calling Ember a mere bully in an alley, as if she were no better than a vagabond without a home; and despite Inferno and Nox's pleas for her patience, Ember had none left, and she quietly sighed as she rose to her claws.
Although they had expected her to fly towards him at incredible speed, Ember merely slowly wandered over to Boom, where she crossed her arms, and told him in a chillingly calm voice that she would be generous, and she would grant him one chance to apologise for his words; but no matter what Shining or Light told either of the two, Boom just shrugged, and shamelessly sat down without another word.
Before he was even able to lean back, let alone to take Courage back from Light, who turned away to shield the little Pup from whatever they dreaded Ember would do unto Boom, the Dragoness forcefully grabbed him by the fur on his chest, and flew upward, out of the campfire's light; and only high up in the sky did Boom realise what he had just cast upon himself, and he quickly apologised to Ember.
But Ember merely shook her head in response, staring right through him with a chilling gaze, before she let go of the Green Unicorn, who started to cry out in fear, and flew down to the others faster than he coould fall half the height whither she had carried him; but as Boom's screams grew louder, Ember calmly sat down again next to Nox and Inferno, who incredulously looked between her and Boom.
For various reasons, none of the others could utter so much as a single word to Ember to ask her to prevent Boom from falling to his doom, and even when Inferno and Nox tried to grab her Scepter, she pulled it away, and silently shook her head in turn; but just as Courage jumped out of Light's lap, and started to whine to Boom, the sound of a hurricane washed over them, and extinguished the fire.
Mere moments before Boom impacted the rocky ground, a funnel of air shot down from the clouds…

Out of all the others present around the small campfire, only Nox caught a glimpse of Light's smile slowly falling and turning sombre again, so she slowly moved closer to them, and sweetly folded her wing over their back, for which they quietly thanked her; but although they had indeed struggled to look after themselves, Light told the others that they had been improving recently, with some help.
Both Boom and Nox quietly chuckled in turn, and discreetly nodded to Light, who warmly smiled back, when Summer suddenly turned around to grab Light's sword, before he asked them whether this was the same sword that they saw next to the helmet on the tree stump, but Light shook their head; for they reforged the blade only recently after it had been broken, as they found its shards somewhere else.
A chill ran down both Light and Boom's spines when they recalled the Valley whither they travelled, as well as the terrible Nameless Things they faced in the dense fog, but in turn, they closed their eyes, and took a deep breath to calm down, intending to leave those memories behind them; and Light solemnly told Summer the sword was their own, and they did not know about the other Ranger's sword.
Just as they had promised before, however, they could teach him the basics on how to wield a weapon like their sword, if he wanted them to, since they figured that they would face heavy opposition in the Outpost whither they were travelling; and they politely admitted that they were uncertain as to how much Ty truly knew about fighting, as it appeared as though he had little experience in battle.
As the Young Kirin sitting across from them shyly rubbed the back of his head, Summer stuttered for some time, until he let out a deep sigh, and confirmed Light's thoughts; but even though Ty did not know much about fighting in battle, he loudly claimed that he was proficient in other aspects which he figured they sorely lacked, such as his ability to turn into the very air itself to scout ahead.
Next to this, Summer proudly continued, when they were chasing after the Dragon-Pony and the little Pink Diamond Dog, he realised that Light and Shining had fallen behind himself and the Dragonesses, yet they managed to catch up to them mere moments later; and this was solely because he helped them with one of the powers that he figured were bound to his Attunement, to rapidly quicken their pace.
In response, when Light and Shining glanced at one another, they remembered the wind that picked up behind them all of a sudden, and helped them to sprint increasingly quickly, yet without using more of their energy; and nigh incredulously, they asked Summer whether he had other skills or abilities he had not yet shown, for if he was able to quicken their movements, it would greatly benefit them.
Despite how eager he always appeared to be in the last few hours that they had known him, Ty looked away from the two, almost shamefully, as he found himself struggling to answer their questions, yet he knew not why he felt this nervous; for although he wanted to say that he could do more than just calling upon the winds from the West to carry them forwards, he suddenly felt a lump in his throat.
Fortunately, Nox noticed that Ty felt uncomfortable, so she gently nudged Light to ask them to give him some breathing room, just in case, to which they nodded, before they let him know that they did not mean to upset him; and since they did not have to hasten themselves now, if he needed some time to order his thoughts, he was free to do so, and he could tell them more about his abilities later.
A small smile grew upon Ty's face as he kindly excused himself from the group, before he started to pace back and forth some distance away, seemingly trying to talk to himself, but whether this was a way for him to calm down, or a harsh way to force himself to speak, they did not know; but they all figured it was best to let him recover at his own pace, so they turned around to face the campfire.
At that moment, just as the group leaned back, Ember spoke up, and loudly asked Boom:
"So, Boomlord, have you recalled any song to sing yet? I'm sure we're all very eager to listen…"

As Light ignited the pile of wood they had built with a flick of their briefly burning tail, Summer nodded enthusiastically in response to their observations, and politely asked them to tell him more about what it was like to be a Kirin Ranger; but as Light sat down with a quiet chuckle, they asked Ty to be patient, for they wanted to make sure the rest of the group even wanted to listen as well.
To their simultaneous relief, and dismay, none of the others shook their heads, as they all replied they were interested to hear their tales, and even those who were least intrigued, like Ember, just shrugged, as she had a feeling she had heard countless similar stories over the years; and as Light put their hoof to their face, they let out a sigh, and sombrely admitted that they figured as much.
But despite this, Light continued, they would not yet tell them anything that would require them to know far more about who they were than what limited knowledge they had now, given that only Nox and Boom knew a little more about their past than the others; but because they had been travelling with them for quite some time already, they were certain they would learn more on their journey as well.
Although Light noticed that Ember rolled her eyes to what they said, they did not respond, and just politely asked the rest of the group for a moment to think about what they had not yet told anybody recently; but after they discreetly gestured in the air for a while, and spoke to themselves, Light struggled to dig up anything that they clearly recalled, but which would also not upset the others.
Fortunately, eventually, they managed to remember some more lighthearted times related to training, be it as a Foal, watching the youngest of the Rangers training in the basics, learning these skills some time later, or even overseeing the training themselves; for although they had endured terrible events during their deployment, there were more memories that always brought a smile to their face.
One such time was when they were no larger than Courage, the little Pink Pup who was still sleeping on Boom's lap, and they had snuck deeper into the forest in which they lived to look at the Rangers in training; but while they had never before been caught, Light added with a hearty laugh, they saw that a Ranger had left their helmet and sword on a tree stump, not far from where they were hiding.
Curiosity got the better of them, and they ran over to the stump to jump on top of it, only to find that the sword was thrice their height, and double their weight, and it would take a very long time before they would be able to pick up such a blade; but the helmet was placed upside-down, and Light crawled into it to find out how it felt to wear such heavy armour, which they should not have done.
Just as they folded their legs into the helmet, where they found that the inside was covered with a layer of furs to soften the pressure on one's head, the helmet started to roll around, and a moment later, it fell off the tree trunk; but while they were glad to find they were unhurt, they realised that the helmet was too heavy for them to lift alone, and they were trapped beneath it for a while.
As the others' reactions ranged from concern to amusement, Light started to laugh as well, and they said that it took until the Rangers returned from their break, talking with each other and having a nice time, until one of them saw that their helmet had fallen down; and Light still fondly recalled how high the Ranger leapt into the sky, and how loud their screams were, when they were found here.
Luckily, none of the Rangers were upset, and they only lightly teased the frightened Kirin that had found them under their helmet, before they were given a drink of water, and some sweet berries, and they were carried back to their village; but while Light appreciated the warning they were given by the Ranger they scared, and who brought them home, they admitted that they did not heed it forever.
When Summer asked them what the Ranger told them, Light sighed deeply, and quietly said:
"'Just be sure to look after yourself next time, all right?', is what they told me… Heh…"

After the group had carefully placed all the little Sparks back in their nest, Nuntius quickly flew around them and happily bounced from side to side, before he slowly floated down to join his little ones, gently coming to rest shortly thereafter; and every present being smiled warmly at the sight, until Nox quietly told the others that it was best to let Nuntius and his Sparks sleep for a while.
Smiles swiftly soured, but the group knew that Nox was right, so after they took one more look into the nest with many small flames, the others politely nodded to her, and turned around to head back, until Nox stopped them again with a brief chuckle; and she said that they did not have to walk away to return to their own bodies, as they were technically still precisely where they left themselves.
But before anyone of the group could ask her what she meant, Nox closed her eyes again, and as soon as they saw her horn glow, they suddenly found themselves in their bodies back in the Waking Realm, where, after they took a moment to reorient themselves, they all deeply sighed in relief; but while it felt like a long time had passed, the others swiftly found that the Sun had hardly moved at all.
Still, although they might not have been away from themselves for long, the Sun was swiftly sinking beyond the massive rocks and tall hills surrounding them, and was steadily approaching the horizon, and they knew that it would not be long before night fell upon them; so Nox trotted over to the two Kirin sitting some distance away, as she figured the confused group needed some time to themselves.
As she approached Light and Summer, the former solemnly nodded to her before turning back to Ty, as he was clearly telling them a tale of some significance, to which Light was eagerly listening, only for Nox to kindly interject to tell them that it was best they join their again soon; and after the two Kirin looked around, and quickly nodded with a nervous chuckle, she realised that they had not.
Just as she turned around, however, Nox stopped herself, and sincerely asked Light and Ty what they had been talking about since they separated themselves from the group, as she had a feeling that it did not have anything to do with learning how to control their powers of Air and Flame; and the sly tone in which she spoke with them made both Kirin look away while rubbing the backs of their heads.
With an embarrassed blush on his face, Summer told her that he and Light had indeed planned to give each other advice on how to more easily wield and more accurately control their Attunements, but he admitted that they had both become very invested in the other's story; but Light said that they had learnt many things, but most of these were simply about the other, and not their respective powers.
In response, the smile on Ty's face suddenly brightened, and he asked Nox in utter amazement if she knew of Light's past as a Ranger, as he had only ever read about their existence in bedtime stories when he was a Foal; and after Nox took a moment to recover from Ty's surprisingly quick mood shift, she discreetly winked to Light as she briefly shook her head to answer the very enthusiastic Kirin.
Before either of the two could realise, Ty leapt off of the rock on which they sat, and immediately grabbed Nox and Light by their arms with incredible strength, and brought them back to the group at winged speed; and the sudden reappearance of the excitable Kirin startled the others, who instantly reached for their weapons, until they realised that it was only Summer, and they calmed down again.
Fortunately, the Young Kirin either did not pick up on their defensive reactions, or simply did not care about it, as he merely dashed across the small circle of beings to place Light and Nox between Shining and Boom, before he leapt back to sit opposite them; but before the two had even managed to take a breath, Summer asked Light to tell him and all theo thers more about their time as a Ranger.
A sombre smile grew upon Light's face as they built a campfire in the centre, before they told him:
"These tales of mine are not brief… but I can tell you are very eager to hear and learn more."
