UPDATE AND BIG NEWS: Thank you so much to everyone who has supported us over the last few months through the deaths of Danny’s mother, my mother, and my father. It’s been…a lot. Thank you for being there, and for continuing to be there. Grief is a journey. Now for the big news: we’re moving to Virginia at the end of May. There are many reasons - my career, Wm attending Longwood, closer proximity to my brother and his kids. It’s the right decision at the right time, and we’re excited about the move. But after a decade here, I leave part of my soul in New Orleans; we won’t be gone forever. Danny and I will be a frequent visitors. (Friends with guest rooms, let us know what treats you’d like from the Commonwealth when we land on your doorsteps! Please don’t say “a whole Smithfield ham.” That’s really unpopular on a plane. #hamsmell 🐷) NOLA friends - if we haven’t caught up in a while, let’s get together before I go. I’ll be back and forth to the East Coast between now and then, but we can make it happen. If nothing else, my front porch is open, and there’s always coffee. ☕️ Virginia friends - INCOMING. Frank Sweeney, 88, passed away peacefully in his sleep at Westminster-Canterbury Hospice on Friday, February 3, 2023. He followed his wife of 60 years, Julia Grey Sweeney, in death just 79 days after her passing on November 17, 2022. Frank lived every moment of his life with intention and passion. To know Frank was to witness a man in constant motion. Frank leaves a legacy of innovation in the insurance claims industry, where his expertise in multiple lines resulted in rapid promotion through the executive ranks of several companies. He later founded his own independent claims consulting firm specializing in medical malpractice claims, developing programs and strategies to manage in-house claims programs and off-shore captive insurance companies which are used across the industry today. Frank’s children, Grey and Jay, followed in his professional footsteps, and both have thriving careers in medical malpractice claims and risk management facilitated by Frank’s encouragement and mentorship. Frank finally closed his consulting company two weeks before his death. Frank’s personal passions over the years included officiating football, women’s college basketball, and baseball. He was a black diamond skier and a PADI certified scuba Divemaster. But the constant in Frank’s life was his boat. His children’s earliest memories feature a boat in the driveway. Frank was happiest on the water, maintaining a captain’s license for many decades. His succession of boats usually featured a center console and double outboards, but never a bathroom - until his wife insisted. He had entire rooms in his home dedicated to fishing poles and tackle. Frank was a 1952 graduate of Notre Dame High School in West Haven, Connecticut. After serving in the Marines, Frank graduated from the University of Richmond in 1960. He married Julia Grey Wallace in 1961. Frank was our father, mentor, and friend. His constant loving support and guidance helped build a firm foundation for our personal and professional lives.
