"This" kind of story we call it "a pack of brainwashing" in Chinese, means someone fakes up stories and spreads to others in order to make them believe these stories are true. I have seen many "packs" of Boyang like, "he is very very bad in performing", "he’s overscored"(yes it exists even in Chinese network. Funny right?), "he's nothing without 4lz", "he's skating skill is shit", even "all of his costumes are ugly" does exist...and many more harsh words I don't want to mention. As a Boyang fan I got used to it. But for this?? HE HAS EDGE PROBLEM? I mean, SERIOUSLY dude? I’m sorry don’t you have eyes? If you want to fake up his stories, be more serious, DONT MAKE JOKES. Thanks.
AND for new fans: When someone try to tell you some stories, don’t trust words without watching competitions by your own eyes.

And I wonder who the hell told the asker that Boyang has edge problem? That’s the most ridiculous joke I have heard this month
Hi! I'm new to figure skating, but I really like Boyang. It's just that I've read somewhere that his edges are not as clear as they look on the protocols and he really should receive negative GOEs on most of his jumps if the judges are being fair. Basically I've been advised not to devote too much into this skater 'cause he doesn't have a lot potentials left, and that advice upsets me greatly. I was wondering if I should take this particular suggestion seriously. Thx!!
Hold up.
Are you absolutely sure that you and I and the people you talked to are thinking of the same skater?
Boyang Jin? Born October 3, 1997? Two-time World Bronze medalist and newly minted Four Continents champion?
This kid, with the super cute face and the awesome, flawless skin?
Tumblr media
The Amazing Spider one?
Tumblr media
Him?
Tumblr media
That kid on the right beaming together with Yuzu and Shoma?

(I really, really need to make more proper Boyang gifs. Why the heck is it that half the gifs I have of him are cracks?)
If it is really him we’re talking about then pardon my French but what the hecking kind of hard drugs were the people you talked to taking? What edges? Boyang is one of the very few skaters in the world who have absolutely no issue with either Lutz or flip. His basic jumping technique on all 6 jump types are beyond reproach: no excessive pre-rotation, no chronic under-rotation, excellent air position, superb ice coverage, solid edge jumps, magnificent toe jumps, and hands down the best quad Lutz in the world.

He’s not even one of those skaters whom you can argue to have been over-scored. If anything, Boyang has always been getting the short end of the stick when it comes to scrutiny from technical panels. Off the top of my head I can easily recount several occasions when his jumps were called under-rotated when they were landed on the borderline of a quarter, whereas his competitors got away scot-free with much shakier landings *cough* Milan *cough*
As things currently stand, Boyang still doesn’t have much in the way of complicated entries and exits into and out of his jumps, so he will not get those GOE bullets (and no, the judges don’t usually give them to him for free either), but he can totally clear the criteria on ice coverage, good extension on landing, recognizable entries for his triples, and he’s also been working hard on getting his jumps to match to music. That’s 3 to 4 bullets, worthy of +1 to +2 in GOE. If you can find an occasion when the judges, unfairly, awarded him more than that then I’m all ears and I’d actually be happy to hear about it. Call me a dirty hypocritical stan if you want, I think it’s high time Boyang gets a piece of the bonus the judges are handing out like candies to many of the other top men.
As for the “potential” angle, oh Boyang has So.Much.Potential: he has plenty of room to grow in skating skills, interpretation, transitions, all the PCS areas, and just over last season you could already see how much he can improve with the right focus, the right music choice, and the right choreography.
That, and seriously, for the love of everything that is right on Earth, why should your choice of whether or not to get emotionally invested in a skater hang on a question of “potential”? Would you stop reading classic books simply because all of ‘em authors are dead and they will never put out a new piece ever again? Pick whichever skater that piqued your interest, watch them, admire them, love them and devote your time to them because why ever the heck not? That is, in a nutshell, what being a skating fan is all about. Is it not?
