Impa Shilup [Shoctaw mythology, Native American mythology]
Shadow creatures play a prominent role in mythology of the Choctaw Native Americans. Arguably the most dangerous of these monsters was Impa Shilup, also called Nalusa Chito. A giant, pitch-black humanoid creature, this spirit was the great eater of souls. If a human allowed dark or evil thoughts to enter their mind and take root, Impa Shilup was said to enter their mind and devour their soul.
People afflicted with depression were also a target of Impa Shilup, as the creature could use the dark thoughts of the victims to enter their minds and feast on their souls.
Much like in Inuit mythology, it was believed that speaking the name of a powerful spirit might summon it. Today, there are still people with Choctaw heritage who refuse to speak the name of Impa Shilup, out of fear for the spirit.

A world unknown... where mysteries hold the sway
Ignorance wraps its cloak... both night and day
A deft dance with darkness... leads a soul astray.
Our dark lust fuels love for Ignorance's trance
Held down... bound... by search for luxuries' chance
Bound... blinded by bias... scorched like Icarus
Recovery is confusion... carried by the curious.
Intriguing... this abyss... a mistress call
To wander where mystic shadows often fall
With eyes unopened... ignorance enthralls us all
The heart and mind... as destiny tumbles a fall.
In shadows deep... where secrets hide in guise
The seeker's heart with longing in their eyes
In the quest for truth... the spirit forever tries
Through every trial and death only ego dies.
Yet wisdom's lantern fights and flickers in the night
A beacon guiding through the endless joyful fright
For in it’s depths... we seek to gain the sight
To quench our thirst for bias burning bright.
