Birthday Ef - Priyanka Verma .. Saturday, January 25 .. birthday greetings and happiness from the Ef ..

.. yesterday it was the men and their high celebrity status in the Film firmament .. but the ladies were there too .. all celebrated stars in their own right and their own environs .. a privilege and honour to be in their proximity and their company ..

.. all celebrated stars in their own languages and regions .. mostly from the Southern parts of the country .. dedicated , efficient , disciplined and gentle in their countenance and demeanour .. a delight to have spent the last three days in their company ..

.. it has come to an end today ..

.. and quietly and without too much fuss the work has been completed , hopefully to the satisfaction of the Producers and makers .. that is what shall make this experience most attractive ..

.. and you return back to the grind .. to the thoughts of them that have left us .. and today again the news of a very dear friend in a medical crisis ..

.. the year has not been very kind to begin with ..

.. but we pray and hope that all the negativity shall be erased sooner and life resolves itself to a normal existence ..

.. there is a need to be in the company of immense amount of left over work .. and this shall have an encounter with the me , by tomorrow .. and then ..

.. BUT what has been the most , has been a column on Babuji on his death anniversary in the media ..

.. and an excellent piece of writing from one that has not just the gift of the writing tongue , but also the gravity of the verse of the poet .. and his soul ..

For then, there is the Spring ahead - as though their lives will return in some form, however equally unintelligible, to rejoin us. The first fragile snowdrops even now break the soil; soon the delicacy of crocuses, then the increasing orchestra of miniature irises, chionodoxa, grape hyacinths, followed by the more assured uprightness of the tulips and then triumphant blast of rampant bluebells. So I mark the day with your father in my thoughts, and your present loss. A thin wan sun has come out here. I send you its warmth in love.”

.. a dear friend on knowing of the Death Anniversary of Babu ji , and of the related passings of relatives in the family , wrote a compelling piece to me , and I felt I must share it with all the Ef ..

poignant , strong and with overtures of looking ahead .. yes there is immense loss and the cruelty of the sadness it brings along .. but the hope that life grows again , lifts the spirits of eternal existence, even when the loved have left us , is embracing and so encouraging ..

.. but when the occurrence of several near and dear pass away, suddenly, then, providence begins to scramble from its siesta and introduces us to its capabilities in the movement of unexpected moves unrehearsed and unexpected .. that is the tragedy .. or is it the irony .. more the latter .. life does not give us time to judge its rights and wrongs .. it delivers , we accept ..

.. thats it .. game over ..

.. so we move on to better climes .. the Sunday gone by after several misses .. and the affection of the many that prepare the grounds of greet are such a graceful and grateful account of the moment ..

.. yes there are the many that be regular in visit .. but many that don’t deserve to be seen and acknowledged ..

.. some of the efforts are so endearing .. the tears of others disturbing .. they do come in and meet .. but their emotions are difficult for me to contend with ..

.. she waits by the gate ..

म्गर अपसे जिद करने का माजा अब आता नहीं…

लडाईयां तो अब भी होती है घर में हमारे…

मगर आपसे वो मीठा मीठा लडने का मजा कोई दे पाता नहीं…

मै आज भी शाम को दरवाजे पे नजरें टिकाये रहती हूं…

आयेंगे अभी बाबा चॉकलेट और तोफे ले के मै अपने से दिल से बार बार कहती हूं…

मगर जब देखती हूं आस आस आप नहीं होते…

तब सच जानियें आपके ये बच्चे छिप छिप के अकेले में है बहुत रोते..

कोई भूल थी अगर मेरी तो एक दफा कहते मुझे…

‘जीवन है चलाएमान , बहती नदी के समान ‘ .. life is but a movement , akin to a flowing river

.. a line from one of Babuji’s famous satirical poem titled ‘बुध और नाचगहर ‘ .. ‘Budh aur Naachghar’ .. where he describes what the great Gautam Buddha preached during his teachings ..

.. returning from the ‘chautha’ for our ‘samdhi’ my in-law ; and at midnight a few moments from now, shall be the 18th of January - the death Anniversary of Babu ji .. life moves on .. the flowing river .. fresh flows of water shall come by in our watchful eye .. and go past in equal presence .. short lived , rapid and followed for a while till its sights , and then await the coming stream of the current next ..

Contend they say .. contend with the flow .. live it , life it , bear it , wealth it , exhilarate it , contribute it , … hold it in within, or palm it .. to open at command and see its vision at our own behest ..

.. the joys and the pains of life ..’विश्व का अभिशाप भारी’ - ( ‘क्या करूँ सामवेदना लेकर तुम्हारी क्या करूँ ‘ ) the greatest curse , differing from each in the individual .. so destined , so proclaimed , so instigated , so demarcated ..

.. by that UNKNOWN FORCE of the Universe ..

यम आएगा साक़ी बनकर , साथ लिए काली हला

पी न होश में फिर आएगा , सुरा-विसुध ये मतवाला

ये अंतिम बेहोशी , अंतिम साक़ी अंतिम प्याला है ;

पथिक प्यार से पीना इसको , फिर न मिलेगी मधुशाला !!

yam , Yamraja , the God of Death shall come in the form of the ‘saki’, the lady that pours and serves in the House of Wine, with the wine that is black in colour ( black symbolic of death ) .. drink for ye shall not come by this intoxication again .. this be the last inebriation , the last ‘saki’, the last cup .. dear traveller drink, consume this with love and care .. for ye shall never find the House of Wine , the Madhushala .. again !!

There is nothing quite like sitting in an enclosed room of recording and putting to voice and rhythm the great works of Babuji ..

Wisdom percolates even the sound proofed interiors of life .. and life itself has been taught by the great Gautam Buddha .. reflected in an extract from Babuji’s poem ‘Budh aur Naachghar” बुध और नाचगहर .. an exceptional satire on his observation at a dancing Hall in England, where he noticed that at one end of this facility was an image of Buddha ..

"जीवन है एक चुभा हुआ तीर ,

छटपटाता मन , तड़फड़ाता शरीर

सच्चाई है - सिद्ध करने की ज़रूरत है ?

पीर पीर पीर ।

तीर को दो पहले निकाल ,

किसने किया शर का संधान ?

क्यूँ किया शर का संधान ?

किस क़िस्म का है बाण ?

ये हैं बाद के सवाल ।

तीर को दो पहले निकाल “ ~ hrb

… life is but a pierced arrow in the body ; an uneasy trembling mind and a body that is in distress .. this be the truth - need to justify it ? no ..

.. pain, pain, pain !

pull out the arrow first ..who fired the arrow .. why was it done .. what be the make and nature of this arrow .. these are questions that can come later .. pull the arrow out first ..

the picture is in Delhi at Sopaan .. and the occasion is that I have just been decorated by the Padma Shri award by the Country .. Babuji wears his Padma medal .. the Padma Bhushan !

But spending the late hours in the confines of the studio is the eventual delight , especially when the work being done is on Babuji himself ! Works that deal with literature and the likes of it shall ever have preference over any other .. and all this to be available in .. well .. never mind .. shall talk about it when closer home !!

The words resonate, the tune of the music accompanied rings loud and clear even after these trying hours .. that is not work it is reverence .. reverence not just from another Son, indeed from all those that profess to be lovers of poetry !

My love as ever

.. when wearing the dark glasses was considered too unorthodox than ever .. but it has all changed altogether .. the presence the look and the need to get the best look .. love you ..
