In universe reason for the several year delay for more SAB:
Moto keeps trying to refactor their code for the box to squash those glitches
Moto is trying to finish tribulation mode to proove it can be done RTA
Busy building a Scrooge McDuck style money pit for all those continue coins we keep giving him
The progeny the box was made for keep sending him fanfiction about Princess Miya and Lord Vanquish and he got too absorbed in their 23,870 chapter collaborative epic
Moto forgot the password for his administrator access to the box and is spending the rest of the year looking for his super-secret-do-not-read password book he's not supposed to have.
He caught covid and has some real bad long covid symptoms
Is earning way more money as a full time cosplayer for Princess Miya who makes appearances at progeny birthdays and gatherings

So just in time for SAB I finished my first piece of Obsidian armor: the pants
Tumblr media
Why did I pick the pants first? I accidentally had a spare gift from when I was preparing to make H.O.P.E but forgot that I was still short a gift of battle. And with that I got the only piece of the onerous spun armor I could get and got the astral slide for my trouble.
Now I have another for my hodge podge legendary armoury.
Tumblr media
Still have all the legendary starter kits for the gen 1 choices from the last few updates waiting for me to finish central map completion on a second tool and H.O.P.E 99% done and almost everything I need to make another gen 3 legendary.
(Also need to think about which armor set to go for after medium, cause I already got so far through earning enough tickets for wvw legendary armor...just need to buy new precursors cause the medium armor ones are kinda pointless now)

The trinket legendaries and back legendary gear are gen 2 in my book.
The rings and other back items might be also, but they're outside of PvE so they don't fit into the generational divides.
The only Gen 2 legendaries are Nevermore, HOPE, Astralaria, and Chuka & Champawat. The next batch were Gen 3 and Aurene weapons are Gen 4. You can't change my mind.

I need examples of the weirdest foods the commander has eaten. Its been awhile since I last played or done map completion. So far I have:
- rotten meat in HOT
- the flower in caledon forest
- the ogre paint ? In the human starter map

Having done a lot of work in rehabilitating the crystal desert after Kralk Kralked all over it the Felis is quite familiar with helping people rebuild a life and escape totalitarian dictatorships and no longer live in fear.
They've been the champion of a lot of things they were very tangentially related to: the lost spirits of the wild, the sunspears, bubbles for a hot second, the united char legions. Once the moment is over that connection is gone too.
This isn't the first time they've been propped up as a figurehead in a civil conflict they have no direct stake in (could just go with Isgaren's plan of nuke the realm so the Kryptis can't use it as a beachhead to launch invasions into Tyria, but we'll always decide to save the farm also). And the one Kryptis they had a solid connection to was Peitha who the longer the conflict drags on, the more she does a speedrun of what all our other allies have done before her and put distance between us and kept us out of the decision making (for obvious reasons, it's a civil conflict that has been possibly going on since before humans came to Tyria, we are very much outsiders here), but it doesn't feel good when months ago she was piping up to ask us inane questions on the word "Bauble" and being curious about us as a person and now we're clearly a tool to point at problems.
Once they've done the good they need to do and save both worlds, that's when the test truly begins, will they once again be left alone and purposeless? Can they continue to tell themselves the fight is worth the result when they are just as lonely and isolated as when they started.
Commander prompt! Soto edition
How does your Commander feel about being called Peitha's champion? How do they feel about the current events in Nayos? Are they more on Peitha's side or the Ward's?
I wanna know abt your commanders!!

===== 1 year later ======
Thief: Hey Mesmer, I forgot you offered and learned how to use an axe correctly.
Mesmer: OK, I've mentally prepared myself...what do you think that means.
Thief: OK so you know how when you throw an axe after it travels for a bit it'll stop.
Mesmer: When it hits something, yes.
Thief: I worked out how to do that even if it doesn't hit something.
Mesmer: I remind my previous statement, you did what?
Thief: And then worked out how to make them do the same thing but backwards so I can hit people twice.
Mesmer: Are they on a string or something?
Thief: Nah, a string kept getting caught in the blade cause they keep spinning once they come to a stop.
Mesmer: That's not what "comes to a stop" means...
Thief: But it's a bit difficult herding all those axes at once, so I cap out at 6 waiting for the command to come back.
Mesmer: So you're just bristling with axes? That will make all your backflips harder I assume.
Thief: Nah, I just hold one. Worked out that knife dimension trick after I saw you do your edgelord stuff.
Mesmer: You did this just to annoy me, didn't you?
Thief (Aegis [10 seconds]): Is it working?
Thief considering what their EoD elite spec should be: I don't want something heavy this time. Rifles were so heavy I had to sit down to use them.
Engineer: You were kneeling, you weakling.
Thief: You guys looked so small from 1200 range, I should try to be closer this time.
Mesmer: Can I teach you how to use an axe?
Thief: I refuse to learn how to use a weapon correctly, seeing how mad shortbow ricochets makes you gives me 10 seconds of aegis.
Mesmer: My ricochets make sense because they're magic, it's just a bow?l! How does it work?!
Thief (Aegis [10 secs]): I'm thinking about inventing a skill that heals someone.
Guardian: Not only do we all have that, but I can heal everyone.
Thief (Aegis [6 secs]): Nah, I'm selfish. I'm gonna pick one person on the team and keep them alive through a party wipe. The rest of you can die of jealousy.
Elementalist: After some experimentation: Scepter is my lightest weapon, wanna try that?
Thief: Yes! I'm gonna be so lazy this expansion. I'm gonna put all my points into looking fierce and teleporting everywhere.

A friend started playing GW2 and now i get to relive the personal story through the eyes of someone so completely uncommitted to the story that we get to enjoy such stuff at:
Sylvari Personal Story:
Player character: This prophetic dream contained a terrible monster that I can only assume is a metaphor for the evil in the world.
Caith: Yeah, nah. That guy is real, he looks exactly like that. Thanks for the assist, he was very confused how psychic unborn children helped kick his ass.
Player character: OK, well...what about the mysterious unkillable green knight in my prophetic dream?
Caith: That guy is also just a guy, he's over there. Kick his ass, he's very much killable.
Player character: So you're telling me prophecies aren't real?
Caith: Nah, yeah. They're real, you just happened to dream about really specific things that are one to one how they appear outside of the dream.

The old "Secret world governed by old people who live alongside normal people but somehow keep it all under wraps" trope requires a lot of suspension of disbelief.
The whole bit in the initial act of the SotO expac where they had to justify why helping fighting the elder dragons wasn't a thing they wanted to do (when they could have said they did commit people to that fight, they were just doing so under the guise of being normal tyrians and not super wizards because only the existence of their order was what needed to be kept a secret), but that would have opened up the opportunity of bringing in more of the established cast and they clearly wanted to not do that for this story.
One of my favourite parts of the SotO expac has been learning more of the absolute nonsense that happens in the mists.
Unless I'm misremembering, the Kryptis hewed their world wholecloth out of the mists. Which is how it's so easy for them to go from their world to nearby others and why "just everyday commander things" like punching a hole out of the underworld (using what in retrospect is probably a kryptis gorged on the emotions of ghosts in the underworld) sent ripples that were felt in Nayos but not in Tyria.
Their world doesn't really have a hard edge, it just fades back into the mists at its edges.
