i don’t know how to tell people that deriving pleasure - sexual pleasure included! - from art* is good actually, and that creating specific kind of art “just” because you find it hot or whatever is just as good a reason as any, and you don’t actually need some “deep and meaningful” reason to create art about things. pleasure - sexual pleasure included - is not the devil, it is not Bad and shameful, and it’s not any less valid of a reason to create something than because you want to, idk, explore the depths of the human consciousness or something

fun fact that's about what the commute was like for my first job. your first job out of college, you know - you take what you can get. I'm like, ok, this sucks, but I'll get some experience under my belt and then figure something else out. I found a vanpool of a few people doing the same commute. cool, I won't have to drive myself every day then, this'll be doable. here's the thing I didn't fully grasp.

years.
And friends. I can confirm. those people were not mentally well. oh my god! what kind of mindset does it take to commute 3+ hours a day for 25 years and not think, hey, maybe I should consider other options of some kind?? ANY OTHER OPTIONS WHATSOEVER?

it’s been four years since I last watched through all of Hannibal & I still think about the episode set in West Virginia where they’re literally at the beach. The beach in Grafton WV. A town notably 1,000 feet above sea level & roughly 200 miles from the nearest seawater
Like….was it supposed to be a lake….
is this perhaps what someone at NBC thinks a lake in the Appalachian mountains looks like

The count of Skingrad in oblivion has apparently been a vampire for 50 years and supposedly nobody in his city has picked up on it yet. I don’t believe that. He’s perfectly healthy and doesn’t have the appearance of a blood starved vampire so obviously he’s spending his nights biting necks. You do that almost every night for 50 years in the same city someone is gonna catch on eventually. Someone is gonna open their eyes at the wrong time when you’ve got your back turned.
My theory is that everyone in town knows but nobody in town says anything because he’s actually doing a decent job and in a world where the count and countess of Leyawiin are torturing beast folk to death for fun I think the people of skingrad are willing to give a cup of blood once in a while if that means they get to live in a semi-functioning city.

I think corollary to this tbh is if you aren't in love with the process of a particular type of art then you can just stop. other people will still make that kind of art! or if they don't, then it will go into history and that's ok, that happens. you don't have to do it! it's not all on you! you're free! make some other kind of art you actually like doing... OR... and I know this is radical... just take a rest. just sit on the porch and have a beverage. I promise its ok

I've definitely mentioned this before but last year my boss remarked to me like "it's so weird it feels like half the time you're a super-employee and half the time you're a ghost" and I had to explain to him that those halves are not in fact random or unpredictable in any way. and sure enough as we near the end of april I enter my turbo era once again. sooooo crazy what could possibly be causing this idk
Thank god they brought back An Amount Of Daylight That Makes You Want To Live. It was getting a bit scary for a minute there.
