Speaking of boycotting Eurovision, after my latest reblog (linked), I need to express my thoughts, since this morning I've read the worst takes ever.
Some people saying "I just won't watch the Israeli entry" or "Actually boycotting doesn't work, just let us have this fun thing when the world is so awful right now" or "Boycotting from your sofa is just performative activism".
My gosh. Get educated.
The Palestinian Call for Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) against Israel asked for a boycott of the whole contest. A quote from the linked article says:
Participating in Eurovision for Israel is “a dream, in particular this year, when it has even more meaning.” Since October 2023, Israel has murdered more than 30,000 Palestinians in Gaza, including at least 12,300 children, and injured a further 70,000. Understanding the contest’s propaganda value, particularly in the time of genocide, the Israeli president Isaac Herzog says, “it’s important for Israel to appear in Eurovision.”
So, "just watching anything but the Israeli entry" does not count as boycotting.
"The world is awful right now" because awful people try to make propaganda out of "this fun thing", participating in a grandiose festival while people are still being killed and attacked every day.
This is exactly the right moment to think about Palestinian people! (Or the Armenian people who were killed and displaced by Azerbaijan during the recent Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.)
I am tired too, but I live in a privileged nation, where nobody is trying to actively harm me. I have a choice to watch the fun and the glitter and listen to silly songs or I can try to think of someone else who is getting attacked on the daily.
Mind you, you can still find a way to boycott the contest and listen to the songs, if you can't LIVE without them. Just don't add views or interactions to official channels who make money out of it, and don't use the hashtags. Talk to your buddies in DM and don't make it trend! How is that complicated??
And if this is still too much of a "performative activism", here's something else less passive that you can do, without even standing up from your sofa:
This google doc has a list of Palestinian people who need donations right now:
Donate hygiene kits:
Donate eSims:
Daily clicks:
And now you can block me if my post on your Eurovision tag is clouding your fun.
Please do not be antisemitic or islamophobic in the notes of this post and be respectful.

It's insane how casually the calls to end a genocide, not just the students in Columbia University but pro Palestinian views in general, are labelled as terrorists. The audacity to still publicly support Israel's actions even after the horrific bombings these last months and then turn around to say that the ones who oppose it are violent anti semites is just baffling

When the rest of the world looks at the united states right now, we see a government who sends billions to support genocide but cannot help their own people starving on the streets.
We see a police force who won't go in to save children from school shootings, but deploy at a rapid rate to arrest peaceful protestors using their right to free speech to protest a genocide
America, you are a war mongering snake eating your own tail. You will protect and support war criminals in another country but let your own people starve and die
To the students bravely protesting now, we see your strength. We see what we saw when students protested the Vietnam War. We have faith you will prevail

sometimes catch myself thinking "of course this would happen, of course israel would open fire at starving people trying to get aid, of course the airdropped aid would fall in a place it's not supposed to fall, of course more and more children are dying of starvation and malnutrition" and then i have to remind myself to stay angry at everything that is happening because even if all of it follows the despicable and clear path of genocide, it should be resisted every step of the way until we can get it to stop
even though israel is simply following the plans it has already declared to raze gaza to the ground and ethnically cleanse its people, even though we are watching nothing but an accelerated version of the kind of strategy that has been employed against palestinians for 75 years, even though the leaders of the world are complicit while the people of the world continue to protest, even though it has been five months, i refuse to normalize with this. none of this is normal. this is monstrous, depraved and sick. its nothing new but we'll keep saying it, and i won't forget any of it.

While Americans are distracted watching the Super Bowl, Israel has chosen to begin bombing over a million Palestinians.
It’s timed too conveniently to be a coincidence.
There’s nothing we can do to stop this but please don’t be silent. Even if you’re watching the game, please use your voice to condemn genocide in this moment and afterwards.

“In a culture so besotted with personal ease, it is a profound act not to turn away. To commit. To speak up. To protest. To teach. To gather in community and action.
So much of this moment involves breathtaking misinformation, attachment to ideas, conflation of preservation and narrative - the insistence that one person's safety can only exist by siphoning another's freedom. For many allies, the antidote is to continue to relationally show up, look for openings, continue to humanize, continue to seek out messy, uncomfortable conversations.
And for those contemplating and questioning: remember that at any given moment you may choose to reevaluate an idea. You may choose the risk of curiosity. The power of private, quiet reckonings: the ones happening behind the scenes, the tender confrontations between you and yourself, between yourself and a long-held belief.
It is easy to focus on the sense of powerlessness, the inconceivable loss, the vetoes, the complicity. It might feel cognitively harder to recognize our collective power, to remember the impact of small actions: they dismantle powerful narratives, seed curiosity, mount political pressure.
There is no miraculous tide that is shifting: the tide is made up of millions of people around the world choosing to pour their hearts, time, resources, hearts, personal ease into not looking away.
Steadfastness says more about the relentlessness of oppression than some magical patience inherent to the oppressed.
There is nothing glorious about steadfastness: it is a task like any other. Nobody should be asked to do it. Steadfastness, endurance, resolve: these are choices in the service of our moral compass and value system, of how we want to spend our time on this earth.”

hi friends
as we boycott in support of palestine, here is a little reminder of the companies that specifically supported israel in their crimes against palestine (taken from the al jazeera website)
Tumblr media
do as much as you are able to during the boycott, but if you need essentials or need to go to work to support yourself, that is okay! anything helps and boycotting these companies specifically is great because of their direct role in the violence against people in gaza

I'm sorry if you're tired of thinking about ofmd and that whole mess but goddamn... it's incredibly painful to see so many people trying to set up fundraisers to get their families out of gaza and the sudan and desperately trying to get their loved ones to safety, I've seen so many and everyday I check to see how much progress they've made, most of them still haven't hit their goal. It hurts to see people rally around a tv show and raise all this money for a billboard, and it's very frustrating to see how people have reacted to this criticism. Like bro tv shows get canceled sometimes there's more important stuff going on
Someone else said it better but to see a fundraiser for tv show renewal advertisements raise $20,000 in less than a day while it takes days/weeks/months/years/never for fundraisers for actual causes that help real people in need reach a goal of less is absolutely dystopian and shameful

Bisan is calling for another global strike!
I saw some posts just outlining Jan 21st, and wanted to clarify that Bisan has called for a full seven days of action.
What a global strike would look like is:
calling in sick to work
purchasing bare essentials ahead of the week so you can observe the general boycott of goods / buying as little as you genuinely can
putting in a concerted effort to elevate Palestinian voices and make it clear that this strike is in support of a permanent ceasefire!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
For those who will have to purchase necessary goods during this time, please observe the brands that the BDS movement is asking us to boycott!

Right now is also a good time to mention some better uses for your money during this week.
Available e-sims in Gaza are running low!!
Mirna El Helbawi and her team are working round the clock to continue to connect Palestinians as Israel does its best to cut them off from the rest of the world.
You can learn how to purchase and send e-sims here, and below you’ll find a list of what is currently needed (the areas in brackets indicate what region you should select to buy e-sims in).

CareforGaza is an organisation that does verifiably good work, distributing supplies directly to Palestinian families.
They have a Gofundme set up at the moment, but because of Gofundme’s poor track record regarding refusing to transfer funds to Palestinians, I’d recommend continuing to donate directly to their PayPal here.

Good luck to all of you. Don't turn away from Palestine!

Israel isn't just breaking international law. It's creating precedent and changing it to make this violence permissible. What happens to Palestinians matters for everyone, everywhere. It sets a precedent that means no where else in the globe is safe. What more do we need to act?

How’s hating everyone going for you?
You lot are so eager to paint Palestinians as people filled with hate, but you will never succeed when the whole world can see that all Palestinians do this for is for the sake of love; love for their land, love for their homes, love for their children, love for their culture - love for life.
You lot are adamant to paint Palestinians as people filled with hate because you need a way to deflect and shift the blame, knowing the hate that Israel had based itself on, from its inception to this day.
Because nothing says hate more than the displacement of 700,000 Palestinians during the Nakba and the displacement of 1.8 million in the past 60 days alone. Nothing says hate more than the massacre of 15,000 Palestinians during the Nakba and the massacre of almost 20,000 in the past 60 days alone. Nothing says hate more than uprooting over 800,000 olive trees to steal more land between 1948 and now. Nothing says hate more than the unimaginable violence inflicted every day in between.
Nothing says hate more than Israel's brutal colonial project. Nothing says hate more than the actions of Israel's fanbase who jump through insane hoops to dehumanise Palestinians and demonise their struggle for freedom. You're just projecting.
