more good news from tiktok: they’ve started blocking celebrities.
they’re calling it block party 2024. just blocking and ignoring countless celebrities who havent said shit about palestine. influencers, actors, anyone who went to the met gala, whatever, they’re getting blocked. and people keep talking about how cathartic it is, how good it feels, how they never realized they could DO that. there was some kind of subconscious law against blocking famous people, but it’s broken, and people are LOVING it. and it’s WORKING. a social media/digital advertising coordinator was talking about how ad companies are PANICKING, because they can’t accurately target anymore. so many big influencers, including fucking LIZZO started talking about palestine the MOMENT their follower counts started going down. and the best part? no one is forgiving them. lizzo posted a tiktok asking people to donate to palestinian families, and all the comments just said you’re a multimillionaire. put your money where your mouth is. blocked.
i feel like i’m witnessing the downfall of celebrity culture, right here right now. people are waking up.

*seeing a cute girl* the natural world is bursting with such incredible and innate beauty everywhere you look. i dont believe in any gods but the stunning beauty of pretty much any woman could make me a believer if they so much as notice my diminutive and pitiful presence
*seeing a cute boy* fuuuck i have GOT to throw rocks at him 😝

You're a game developer, but you look so cool! I don't get it, isn't game dev for nerds?
dressing like a tetsuya nomura character would have gotten me bullied back in school. what ur seeing here is over a decade of hard work of fans slowly changing cultural tastes until ppl finally accepted that dressing up as a side character in a final fantasy or kingdom hearts game was actually the coolest shit

like black people are present in every single fucking genre and scene and popularized and straight up created several but people are so fucking hell bent on finding every possible excuse to not engage with their music because its easier than trying to confront their own racism. like okay well if its truly just a disinterest in most rap music then surely you listen to black artists in other genres right? who am i fucking kidding. of course you dont.

there's something so relatably tragic about kaiju. imagine you're big, so big that you become a danger to people just by existing. it's not your fault you're this big, and maybe even it's humans' fault you're this big. maybe you're even in pain.
you have special abilities that no one else has, but they only ever seem to destroy things and hurt people. and maybe you want to hurt people. maybe people hurt you, and you're lashing out against them. but then again, maybe you don't want to hurt them. maybe you just want to live. maybe you even want to be the hero. but even when you get your chance to be the hero, the people you save still try to hurt you.
no matter what you do, you're still big. too big for people. and you scare people. you scare people, so they hurt you. but it's not your fault you're so big. and you can't seem to escape them, the people. they're everywhere, and in more places every day. all the humans that are so very small but hurt you all the same. usually not enough to kill you or even seriously injure you, but enough that you feel it. and they won't stop at anything until you're dead.
and you're the only one quite like you. maybe the first of your kind, maybe the last. and it's amazing, but so very lonely. you might find others as big as you, but they never seem to be the same as you. and usually you just fight them, because you're both too big and this world is too small. you might make some friends, but even still, they'll never fully understand what it's like to be you. but then again, maybe it's enough that they understand what it's like to be too big.

There’s something so important about dungeon meshi choosing falin to be their missing party member. She’s their healer. She is, in many ways, the most important member. She’s the one who ensures they all come home in one piece at the end of the day. So from a storytelling perspective, it makes sense that it would be her. It intrinsically raises the stakes by taking away the party’s ability to quickly heal.
But from a thematic standpoint it’s even more significant. Falin is the best of them. She holds them all together. There’s a reason why the party splits up when they lose her, after all. The only reason Laois and Marcille know each other is because of Falin, so by extension she’s the only reason their party exists the way it does.
There’s something almost divine about the way she’s characterized by her friends. They talk about her kindness, think of what she’d do if she were with them. You never hear anyone speak poorly of her. Everyone else has flaws. Laois struggles to connect with others, Chilchuck can’t admit when he cares, Marcille refuses to be wrong, and Senshi is very stuck in his ways. None of these are necessarily a bad thing. It just makes them complex people. But Falin is almost more of an idealized concept than a person.
And then we see Falin on screen, a mess of bones and viscera. We see her put back together with forbidden magic, her new body soaked with blood. We see that there’s something off about her, that alongside her kindness is incredible power. And everything up until that point reframes itself. Falin has always been part monster, from her compassion for the dead to her magic school hideout in a dungeon. She dies and comes back, not just changed but amplified. She’s a healer, a ghost, a monster, all tucked beneath the same skin.

Ngl there is something deeply poetic about K2 being created by the elven oracle, wielder of the sword of sight, but molded from the saint of mystery and doubt, saying “god blind me” and getting unmade by the corrupted clouded goddess of twilight and uncertainty. I could not possibly begin to tell you what that deeply poetic thing is, but it’s there.

the no-true-scotsman "how DARE you suggest that the lesbian community has any kind of transmisogyny problem" historical revisionism shit has to stop btw. leslie feinberg is not going to spin and explode in hir grave if you acknowledge that we as tme lesbians have historically had ties between our movements and transmisogynistic ones, that many of our spaces past and present harbor people who want to hurt our transfem loved ones, and that in the broader discourse we have always occupied a particular rhetorical niche as lesbians which transmisogynists (many of them, yes, sadly, also lesbians) have used as a cudgel against trans women in the name of "protecting lesbians." shouting down transfem dykes whenever they point this out doesn't do anything to change that reality. we can be tough enough dykes to accept critique and look inward without crying lesbophobia (against other lesbians, no less!), and moreover we owe it to our trans lesbian comrades to stay vigilant about this shit and to believe them when they tell us what they've experienced
