what brush settings would a yamfricker use to mimic each version's style if they wanted to do something like fake screencaps?
Ohh, fakescreencaps! I’ve never really tried to do one of those, but it seems prettyfun, I’ll see if I can help!
For 60sIyami’s lineart on my last picture, I’ve used this brush here:
And for 80sIyami, I’ve used this one, which coincidentally is the same I use to drawcertain small details when I draw in -san style:
The thingabout the older Osomatsu-kun animes is that, because of their age, the qualityof the video has deteriorated a little (A LOT in the case of 60s -kun) so screenshotsof it not only don’t look very “clean”, two different episodes also won’t havethe same colors and saturation. I suggest picking a single episode and tryingto mimic its particular quirks (line thickness and color, smudges, etc.)instead of drawing from multiple sources in this case. For example, for my 80sIyami, I picked ep. 80!
As for thebackgrounds… both animes have painterly backgrounds. There’s this watercolorbrush I really like, that was originally created by bluekomadori here on Tumblr. They have a pretty cool tutorial on how to use it here! I had to change thesettings a little for it to work with my version of Paint Tool Sai, here’s whatI use:
I tried redrawing some backgrounds from both shows and here’s the finished result:
Now withIyami in them!
Now, a -sanfake screencap would be its own beast. I usually mimic the style they use in promotionalmerch art, which is neater than the one from the show per se. I already talkedabout the brushes I use in my -san art once, but for a fake screencap I’d useonly this one. It’s pretty good to mimic the “fountain pen” thing that -san lines got going on:
In fact, when drawing the characters, Iwould stay purposefully kind of off-model since that’s how -san operates forthe most part! As for the backgrounds, they’re llineless and rough. I like using this brush for them:
I also likeadding a rough paper or cardboard texture on top of it on Photoshop and settingthe layer to overlay with very low opacity.
Thefinished result:
And nowwith… I-Iyami… hey listen it’s the holidays I’m allowed to be a little self-indulgent
Well, that’s pretty much it! Good luck making your fake screencaps!!
