Your Everything Wrong With The Mortal Instruments is the reason I wrote a 2000-word rant about Jace Herondale when I was 12 and got cyberbullied off two social media platforms. A genuine thank-you for existing lmao
You're making me very much want to continue that series now that my life is settling down. I'm both impressed by your 12 year old self's tenacity, and very sorry you got cyberbullied.
Thanks for reaching out!

"There are trends that can be looked at (I’ve seen some interesting studies on the differences between the sexes, there are physical differences in the brain as well as psychological differences), but trends are just that." you once said this could you provide links to the studies you brought up
https://www.frontiersin.org/articles/10.3389/fnins.2019.00185/full
Here are a few. Granted, this is trends.

I tried libby but its asks for a library card and apparently you have to go to a physical library to do it. I dont have any in my city. Is there are virtual library that I dont't have to go anywhere to use it? And that its not just for americans?
I would suggest OpenLibrary, I believe it’s not just based in the us, and if you run into trouble. If you haven’t contacted any nearby library in your district, you might want to. There are more and more ways to get digital cards as well, given Covid.
This might also help as a resource.

Point is, people need to utilize their libraries a lot more. Instead of assuming they don’t have something, research. Instead of assuming you have to go in person and borrow physical books, research (aka use Overdrive/Libby). People justify piracy without really trying much. At the very least, they conversation should be about getting more funding for libraries rather than “but authors are RUDE for charging money for books how dare! I would rather die than pay for a book.”
Yeah. I do think a LARGE issue is that people don’t think that libraries are online. Libby/Overdrive in the states is a HUGE advantage, and honestly, I was surprised by just how much they really stepped up with Covid.
We do need to talk more about funding libraries and making sure everyone CAN have books available and for free. Because honestly, a lot of people can’t pay $20 for a book (or more), but the answer, at least to me, is more libraries and better funded ones.

1. It has literally been proven that pirates are middle and upper class, entitled people. 2. Not everyone pirates movies and shows. Also, authors are paid way less!
Yeah. Also, it’s been proven with movies and music that once a cheap legal alternative was there, most people weren’t interested in pirating them.
I do think people tend to think that libraries aren’t online or something.

Have you heard about Iron Widow, an ownvoices Chinese fantasy that is going to have actual polyamory in a YA book? Instead of a love triangle? I am so excited for this book because I have legit never seen polyamory in YA and I hope it does well so we can have more! I was just excited about it so I wanted to share.
I actually haven’t and I’m sure some of my followers would be interested!

Does anybody else’s library have little sales? I got some hardbacks for like $5. I also donate my old books to my library for tax breaks :>
Mine do! The only reason we haven’t this year is covid, but usually I go to them just because it’s a great way to 1) fund the library and 2) buy REALLY cheap books.

At least pay marginalized indie authors. That is all. No excuses. Use an online library or ask the author for help instead, friends.
Honestly, pay for ALL authors. As I said, even authors that manage to run the gauntlet of publishing aren’t all that rich, and there’s the fact that every book represents the work of the publishers, editors, illustrators,  printers etc that have to make the thing.
Libraries are great! There’s no reason not to use them!

My $0.02: publishers don’t know about pirates books. They won’t be able to tell people are reading lgbt books or books about characters of color if they think no one is buying them.
This is true as well. If anything,  poc and lgbt books are still considered somewhat niche. If there isn’t a big audience, they just won’t publish.

You can find DVDs at your library...
I wish I could. When I lived in Colorado, I could, but not in my current library. We’re only finally getting a solid thing of audiobooks.

Fan artists are allowed to charge money, but fanfic writers, despite putting in just as much work, are thought to be wrong when they do.// they are both illegal akshakajd but for some reason people are more lenient with fan arts
Pretty much. I think it has to do with a case where one author,  I THINK Anne Rice, lost a lawsuit to a fan writer for using an idea. After that some writers when after fanfic writers with a vengeance. it’s only lately been considered acceptable.

For some reason people are super against pirating books but watch pirate movies and tv shows
You’re right. We need a library for TV and movies as well.

I also notice that everyone who justifies piracy pretends to be very poor, yet all the people I know in real life are middle class or upper class.// just because this anon has a rich social circle doesnt mean this is the reality of 99% of people on the planet lol
I mean most people I know who are aren’t upper and middle class tend to utilize their libraries a LOT more.
