This is something I'm seeing more and more on AO3 that I'd never seen when I first got into fandom stuff, so I wanted to find out how you all feel about it.
What are your thoughts about seeing posted fanfiction that isn't commissioned, where the creator says that they have never read/watched the source material? For example, someone putting out a fanfic for a show they've never watched that includes the tag Author Has Never Seen Suchandsuch.
#glad you're here but its not for me i think#honestly this descrip just gave me war flashbacks#to that time someone read my kaishin dcmk series#and on the installment where literally the only characters that were in it were conan and haibara#they implied i had written them slightly ooc#and during the 'conversation' i had with them in answer to that they revealed that the only dcmk content they'd consumed was#the magic kaito special series (the 12 episode one where conan was literally only there during the crystal mother episode#(which he was canonically NOT IN!!!!))#and other dcmk fanfiction#meaning they had consumed 0 canon content in regards to the characters conan and haibara and then told ME#someone who has READ magic kaito / ALL of detective conan MULTIPLE times / and watched all the movies#that i wrote them wrong#needless to say i was livid#especially since one thing i try really hard on when writing fanfics is to keep characters IN character

The one thing that I absolutely love about this fucking fandom is that no one is here willingly. Not a single fucking one of us. Every person is like "a fucking Naruto blog wtf" And "I'm sorry I've re-entred my Naruto phase", like, everyone is like "Okay, sucked into the Naruto chamber against my will, here we fucking go again" And it's always "again" Like we all deserted this beast and now it's seeking it's revenge on us all and we can never escape.

What is the biggest disappointment in fanfic?
#mischaracterization is pretty commonly noticable right off the bat#so while that's a major reason for clicking off usually- i wouldnt already be enjoying the fic in that case#so instead the one i voted for was 'author likes a character you hate'#becuase there HAS been many a mdzs fic that i dropped like a hot pocket just because the author#decided to redeem#of ALL people#xue fucking yang#yi city's resident psychopath#i can usually allow meng yao redemption if its handled well#and almost everyone else is more or less fair game (besides like wen ruohan / jin chan / madame bitch / her male spawn / jin guangyao /etc)#but xue yang gets treated like 'how wei ying could've turned out under similar circumstances' and NO??? HE WOULDNTVE????#because if wei ying was capable of being anything like THAT then for one thing he would NOT be the mc#and for two: if he reacted similarly to be cruelly injured: the yu clan and possibly jiang clan would not still be standing#madame bitch would've seen to that#and honestly? wouldve deserved it more than chang whatever

So I started reading The Other World's Books Depend on the Bean Counter/Isekai no Sata wa Shachiku Shidai (BL isekai story)
And literally Aresh is the most pathetic poor man in this entire story. Like the stress levels Kondou gives him. They're literally unstoppable force meets immovable object
But humor aside I love how the story portrays the horrible mindset and work culture in japan and all around the world honestly. To think you have to work yourself to death to feel like you have a purpose to live is horrible and Aresh feeling straight up disturbed and disgusted with Kondou's thoughts influenced by his experiences of being a working adult in a capitalistic world was exactly how one should react.
And also it shows deep roted classism in a monarchy government with how higher ups have much more freedom and due to it most times ignore or pass on work and problems to subordinates and become unaware of the state of things due to their privileges.
Literally this manga is so great and if possible I would love to read the novel too!

Perks of being an S-Class Heroine / A Transmigrator's Privilege - Being isekai'd is more of a system now, structured with actual management.
He's a Supporting Character but I love him anyway - Girl goes into a story with a somewhat unhealthy obsession with a certain minor character. She makes it her mission to change his fate for the better (and "interact" with him ;) )
How to Survive a Romance Fantasy - not many chapters yet but three different normal people isekai'd into the same story as the female lead, male lead, and villainess respectively. And all three of them noped the fuck out of the storyline.
I Became the Male Lead's Adopted Daughter - honestly just fantastic
I Raised Cinderella Preciously - woman(?) isekais to find herself to be what looks like the evil stepmother of the cinderella fairytale, what with her two non-beautiful blood-daughters and her gorgeous step-daughter, but as she does her best to mother the three of them, she starts to realize the story doesn't seem to be correct?
Once Upon a Time in a Zombie Empire - Girl is the last survivor of a zombie apocalypse... until she ends it all. She wakes up as the princess of a whole other world, and doesn't understand why until a couple days later, zombies appear in this new fantasy world too!
The Savior's Book Cafe in Another World - A woman in her 30's gets isekai'd, even though she didn't want to- she was fine with how her life was! God allows her one wish for getting isekai'd and she makes her wish to be completely separate from the new world politics and to be able to run a book cafe.
The Villain Discovered my Identity - Her interference in how her brother was raised means that he elopes with his lover, leaving our main character to pretend to be him for required military participation
Who Made me a Princess?
Even Though I'm a Super Timid Noble Girl, I Accepted the Bet from my Cunning Fiance / Fiance's Observation Log of a Self-Proclaimed Villainess - Both stories where a girl finds herself as (one of the) villainess(es) in an otome game, and tells her fiance the situation when they're young. The fiances are highly competent and take control of the narrative with the information they're given. (Observation Log is from the point of view of the fiance himself!)
The One Within the Villainess - Girl isekais into the body of the villainess in an otome game, and changes everything so her beloved villainess can live a happy life. then she encounters the heroine who also isekai'd, and is determined to frame her for terrible things and ruin her life. When she is accused by everyone she cared about of being evil, she breaks. That's when the original owner of the villainess's body, who has been watching all this time and come to love the isekai'd girl, takes over to get revenge for her.
The Villainess Wants to Marry a Commoner - girls isekais into an otome game as the villainess, but only has eyes for the npc that was in charge of the game store.
Tales of Reincarnation in Maydare: This Wold's Worst Witch - The descendant of a terrible villain in her world's history, our mc is determined to become a great witch, and hopes to live a happy life with her childhood friend/love. But when she sees the isekai'd "hero", she remembers her past life as this girl's best friend.
there's a good few more I could reccomend but I picked the more unique ones. Highly reccomend all of these!
Isekai with male protags: "I was a loser on earth but now I'm super fucking strong and gettin mad bitches"
Isekai with female protags:
Reincarnated princess uses earth knowledge to make magitech a thing and romances sad girl
Girl romantically pursues her video game waifu
Girl is tasked to teach actual fucking gods to be more empathetic to humans
Woman reincarnated as the daughter of a magic item crafter uses earth knowledge to advance her trade
"Straight" girl is sucked into a world with zero men and lesbians everywhere and finds out she's sapphic (there's like actual plot but the gay is what matters.... to me)
A ghibli film. Need I say more
Woman reincarnated in video game as doomed villainess desperately tries to change her story
Girl reincarnated as a tiny baby spider kills monsters to level up
Like the male protag one but the lame guy's mom got isekaid with him and she's the op one.
Two normal girls fight urban legends in terrifying danger dimension

i know im the dumb bitch that's first thought to what fic i can write off a media is either a soulmate au or a daemon au BUT
I'm reading a harry potter fanfic (dont look at me like that 1) its a crossover and 2)fanfics can just as easily be a ceremony where we dance around a fire thats burning source material okay) and i mean
tbf i didnt CHECK but has anyone considered that a person's animagi form is just what their daemon would be? cuz the mc of this fic is about to realize that the weird-ass dog he's seen around campus is an animagus and i was like
you know, when ur writing a daemon au, one staple is that a trait for people with dog daemons is loyalty. so i thought it was kinda funny that someone who's a dog animagus was framed for disloyalty and all that
then i thought of a daemon au where there's like a whole faction of people STILL, twelve years later, debating whether sirius black was REALLY guilty. because he has a dog daemon, so there's no way he'd betray his BEST FRIENDS, who he was LOYAL to, right? ('in fact' some of that faction would mutter to each other 'that action far better befits the rat daemon whose death he was accused of' conspiracy theorists who?)
or a group thats adjacent to THEM who insist he was playing a long con from the beginning: he was planning to serve voldemort from the get-go, so he PRETENDED to have his daemon settle as a dog in order to have an in with the Order of the Phoenix, who would obviously trust someone with a dog daemon. his daemon isnt ACTUALLY a dog, the claim.
but one thing i hate about writing daemon aus is that u have to come up with a daemon for EVERYONE and then NAME them all, which i hate, so this is an open offer to anyone who actually wants to write it
i mean i guess i could write a tiny little thing??? i dunno- if i actually wrote this it would ONLY have this stuff in it so idk if it would be worth writing
