One solid punch. That was all she needed feeling her blood roar as her fist dented the solid steel of a fuckin' robot soldier. The thing, a JACK-8 she pulled from memory like dragging a corpse, crumpled at her feet. The red glow in its eyes sputtered out. Under the bullet storm whizzing around them she slouched, huffing as she scanned the torn field crowded with bodies. Crowded with other slug fests. That rich girl must have gotten lost in the fray. Her heart jumped. Her sigh fanned an aching worry.

Another explosion tore the air amid more salvos firing in the distance. It couldn't mask the crunch of heavy footsteps from behind choking what little grass remained to stand on. She wheeled around, growling, not hesitating as she raised her fists. There stood a man wearing a cruel face, jagged and worn from scars shinier than medals. He wore no shirt. Probably a stupid jackoff who thought swinging alone made victories.

She stepped into her weight, her eyes a razor.

"C'mon then. Fuckin' eyesore."

Her mouth twitched. Her eyes slid down; static fizzling her mind to white noise. She watched, transfixed as streaks of ice cream glistened their lost gold and slid like fat worms toward her feet. The soles of her loafers squelched sticky on the pavement. Gripping the bare stick in her hand turned her knuckles white.

"I spent my last hundred yen on that creamsicle, prick! Ya owe me. Pay it back." She growled.

She clenched her fists. Her eyes turned steel.

"Or we can settle this right now."

Before the last word was off her tongue Asuka mussed her own hair. She stomped her foot, huffing and grunting her frustration.

"It's tha' principle, it's tha' principle of tha' thing!"

She ground her teeth.

"Just quit actin' like a moron I ain't askin' fer tha' world 'ere. She's yer bear, yer responsible!"

Then finally the anger simmered to annoyance, to a mild disappointment. Slowly she picked up her bag and slung it over her shoulder. She extended her hand. She stared her square in the eyes. There seemed a bit of reason there. There was a stiffness to her words gliding beneath the humility.

"Handshake on it. C'mon. I'm not leavin' till ya give me somethin'."

A dry smile raised a corner of her mouth.

'And that damn bear better not get sic'd on me!'

She stuck her hands on her hips and hummed in thought. How the hell would a school let a fuckin' wild animal on the grounds?! They wouldn't even let her bring a stray kitten she'd rescued and kept an eye on for a week. Her brow narrowed. Maybe this girl was paying someone off.

Not that it was her business; the thing behaved well enough.

"Well listen, whatever yer weird reason is ya keep a bear don't go usin' it ta' scare people. Or else around 'ere ya both gotta answer ta' me-"

She took a deeper look at the girl's face, at her pig-tailed black hair. She scrunched seeing those boxy leg warmers and the neon orange hair ties. A high school kid in a uniform she didn't recognize. People had been whispering about a girl getting around on a panda; the shape of her face snapped clear out of a blurry memory-

Asuka gasped, her eyes widening to the whites. Her school bag clattered to the ground. She pointed at her.

"Yer tha' one who ran me an' that rich brat over!! Ya were yellin' 'bout bein' late an' all. I knew that panda was weird! Where's yer damn apology?!"

I want to talk about how I view Asuka as someone who self harms, the power dynamic shifting around who has control and when in her relationship with Lili (and why that gives away how much more mutual it is than it appears to be and gives it that Homoeroticism, to which I think it's Asuka who's really the central one in control here), and why Asuka would have chosen to stay silent around Jin in 8 (though I think this is the shallowest one in terms of things to talk about because just looking at their fleeting history together should make it obvious, but it is a strong reflection on Asuka's part because it's antithetical to her normal behavior)
