        “ your hero, hm ? ” a tousle of a wolf’s mane, the attention of a singular eye. lips curl but it’s not for the baring of fangs ; rather, a smile is what places itself there. by no means a soft expression for one more wolf than pup, it is far better than the alternative. a twitch of her ears and idle swish of her tail tells of her nonchalance.

        it has been many moons that they two have been together, partners in nearly every sense aside from the proclaimed sort. still, it would do any well to not assume her silence on the matter proved her disdain and hesitance. quite the contrary, actually.

        “ if i’m to be your hero, then am i to liken you to be my prince ? is that not how the tales go, rafi ? i wouldn’t mind it --- for i would readily give myself to you beyond what duty entails. ”

headcanon: mistress of the evil eye ; nailah : the unflinching eye

in islam, the evil eye is considered to be a look that is made with the intent to cause another harm. in assyrian culture, it is said that those with blue or green eyes are more prone to this effect. though if nailah keeps only one eye covered if both are, presumably, green, it makes one wonder what the true intent behind her discretion is.

of course, there could be some sort of injury that she sustained that caused her to wish to hide it. but i believe nailah, as someone who enjoys a good fight, to not really be one to hide her scars. rather, i think she hides it more in the sense that k.akashi hides his eye in n.aruto. that addresses the issue of why it’s hidden, but why it is different enough to warrant hiding needs to now be touched upon.

in e.dgar a.llan p.oe’s the t.ell - tale heart, the protagonist is made incredibly uncomfortable by the ‘ evil eye ’ of his landlord. though not directly addressed, from my memory, i believe that this man had cataracts or some other deformity that gave it a filmy, unsettling, and piercing look that made the protagonist feel as if the man could see his weakness.

however, just as i believe nailah to be eager to show off her scars, comparatively, i think that pride would push for her to hide weaknesses. any show of inadequacy is enough for a pack of wolves to overthrow their alpha and for another to take over the pack that she has, in my mind, ruled over for at least a few centuries.

her in - game skill, glare, provides an answer to this, in a way. the flavor text says that it ‘ allows its user to petrify a selected enemy unit for the rest of the chapter ’, lending to the idea that, perhaps, this is a sort of power that she uses for the sake of keeping control of a situation, battle, and maybe even disagreeable members of her pack --- and even the non - laguz inhabitants of hatari. thus, i believe it to not only be a different color --- blue --- but something that she is not afraid to hide or use. 

not only did her skills as a combatant prove her worth among her pack and her people ; this unflinching, evil eye has stupefied those that dare question it.
