I really like this theory! I hadn’t thought before of how he was the only one to actually touch the Chaos Heart (makes sense tho as, according to the Dark Prognosticus, he was “the ideal host for the Chaos Heart” or w/e)

I think I definitely don’t think he was entirely himself as Mr. L, but there is evidence of Luigi’s memories and personality everywhere in Mr. L’s character. To me it seems like Nastasia’s powers, and/or perhaps the influence of the Chaos Heart more sort of tapped into something that was already there.

Based on various evidence (how other characters react to Luigi, things Luigi says, and Red and Green’s relationship, which seems to parallel Mario and Luigi’s) it seems that Luigi feels chronically overshadowed by his brother and generally unappreciated by all, and desperate to prove himself; this is certainly enough to build feelings of resentment for his brother, his friends, and the world as it is, and to make him eager for an opportunity to prove his ability to everyone

Because he shows genuine love and loyalty to the other heroes and wants to save the world, I think some kind of powerful influence was needed to break him from that enough to let the darker feelings take control, but it was a pretty minor adjustment

Given that as Mr. L he had enough memory of his previous companions to come up with personalized insults for them, it seems very likely that after he was sent to The Underwhere by Dimentio memories of his time as Mr. L would still be with him (though he would almost definitely repress them out of guilt and confusion (and potentially hurt at Dimentio’s betrayal))

But if the memories are there, they can come back

Okay, so remember that ask about how Luigi is buddy-buddy with his ex-minion pals? I’ve gotten a handful of reminders from both anons and actual users telling me that Luigi wasn’t conscious during his time as a villain and therefore would not remember his time in the castle. That’s cool, you can believe that if you want! But I just can’t agree.
