Volunteer with animals – it’s good for you
Tumblr media
You’ve probably heard it before; volunteering and doing good deeds can help you spread as well as experience more joy. Plenty of studies have also found that animals help you cope with stress and generally feel happier.
In fact, animal-therapy has been around since the 19th century.
So, what happens if you combine the two – volunteering and animal shelters? It should boost your feel-good senses over the roof, right? Just about. It’s been proven that when you volunteer with animals, you can also improve your general wellbeing.
For one thing, it’s buckets full of fun. You’ll be playing with puppies and taking dogs for walks. Yes, it’s hard work, and it might break your heart when you leave, but you’ll be doing such a good thing for them. Also, while you are playing and scrubbing away, you’re active and burning calories. So, you’re losing weight and reducing your risk of cardiovascular diseases.
In addition to aiding your physical health, studies have found that by merely petting an animal, you release stress and feel less anxious. The pet doesn’t even have to be of the furry kind. Just as long as it’s alive and you’re interacting with it, your mental health will benefit. A 2016 study tested this theory, by giving crickets to elderly people to look after. In only eight weeks they felt less depressed.
By volunteering with animals, you’ll also gain imperative life skills such as discipline and patience. In order for you to adequately work with and train animals, you need to understand how to best motivate them. Also, each animal is unique, which means you’ll need to adjust your behaviour to suit each personality as needs be. These are great skills that can assist you in your career and everyday life.
Speak to our My Personal Assistant agents to find out where you can best volunteer your time and how you can help animals. Call 0861 33 33 56 or visit us online for more on how we can all make the world a little better for our animals.

Why you should walk more
Tumblr media
Laughter might be the best medicine, but walking is a close second. Here at My Personal Assistant, we’ve discovered incredible benefits of just walking a little more each day. It can be something as simple as taking the stairs instead of the elevator at work, parking further from the door or walking on the spot while you’re watching TV. Every little bit helps. Although, research will show it’s better to walk outside in the fresh air.
So, why walk?
1.       You’ll be burning more calories, and hence, you’ll lose weight.
2.       It’s been found that a brisk 10-minute (stress-free) walk can improve your mood for up to two hours.
3.       Want to regulate your blood-sugar levels more effectively? Go for a 15-minute walk after each meal.
4.       Getting in the habit of walking can reduce your cardiovascular disease risks.
5.       By walking more, you can fight your risk of high blood pressure, high cholesterol and diabetes.
6.       If you go outside to walk, you can ease depression and boost your overall mood. Just remember the more natural scenery around you, the better.
7.       It’s a perfect solution if you need to/want to exercise, but you have a health condition that prevents strenuous activities.
8.       Giving your brain time to clear out and relax, can help you solve problems and improve your creativity.
9.       As more blood will flow to your brain supplying it with glucose and oxygen, your intelligence will technically increase.
10.   A daily brisk walk around the block or in the park can strengthen your bones and prevent loss of bone density.
11.   Suffering from allergies? Before you take the antihistamine, try a 15-minute walk. They’ve been found to decrease hay fever symptoms by up to 70%.
12.   Not only can walking improve your quality of sleep, but it can also help you reduce the number of sleepless nights you have.
13.   As far-fetched as it sounds, researchers have found that regular walking can lead to healthier eyeballs and reduce age-related vision impairments.
So, take a break from your daily demands and computer screen, and go for a walk. Your body and soul will thank you.
Speak to us about locating a park, hiking trail or walking route near you. Better yet, we can negotiate on your behalf on step tracking devices, shoes and security measures. Visit our My Personal Assistant agents online or call 0861 33 33 56 to submit your request.

24 Ways to be better in 2018
Tumblr media
Nobody tells us this, but life is hard. We’re all constantly trying to figure out how to make through the day and not succumb to society’s pressures. Unfortunately, it’s very easy to lose a little bit of ourselves along the way. And with the dawn of each new year, we promise ourselves this year will be different; then a couple of days in, we’re back to the mad dash.
This year, we are here to help you. My Personal Assistant is here to help you commit; we’re here to help you find ways of being the version of yourself, you’ve always wanted to be. So, to get in the habit of improving your life, here are 24 easy tips (two for each month or however you want to break it down).
1.Compliment yourself
Every morning before you take on the day. Give yourself a compliment or two. You are filled with greatness, and it’s time you acknowledge it.
2. Read every day
Reading is a good exercise for your brain, and you expand your knowledge. Even if you’re reading fiction, you’re learning new words.
3. Start a new hobby
Have you always wanted to learn how to paint or do fencing, but never had the time and/or courage? Go for it – don’t regret not doing it one day.
4.Stretch
We get tense throughout the day and we spend most of our time in front of our computers. Stretching helps you strengthen and loosen your muscles.
5. Exercise
Even if you just take a walk during your lunch break. You need to take care of your body.
6. Be helpful
If you see someone dropping papers at work, help them pick it up. It doesn’t have to be grand gestures, but where you can, help those around you.
7. Say thank you
Show your gratitude. When someone does something for you (big or small) say thank you, and mean it. Also, keep a gratitude journal, so you can remember how great your life is.
8. Try something new
It can be a sport, cuisine or colour shirt. You have to try new things to keep on growing.
9. Take a course
The internet is full of free online courses. Improve your personal finances or learn how to knit – just learn.
10.Write a letter
Take the time to write a loved one a letter. Tell them how you feel and what you’re doing. There’s much more meaning behind a letter in the mail than a smiley WhatsApp.
11. Face a fear
Are you afraid of spiders, heights or public speaking? Take the time to beat the fear – you’ll feel so much stronger.
12. Challenge a stranger
When you meet a stranger, challenge them to something. Give them their whole life to complete the challenge and ask them to do the same for you. You’ll be amazed at the new things you’ll learn and do.
13.To-do lists
Create realistic to-do lists each day. This will help you put all the tasks in perspective and manage time.
14. Accept you
Nobody’s perfect. Just love you for who and what you are. By being more comfortable in your own skin, life will also feel more relaxing.
15.Get inspired
Watch a short motivational video, read an article or speak to someone you admire, but do so regularly so you’ll stay inspired.
16.Quit
We all have bad habits. Some smoke, some bite their nails and others talk on the phone while driving. It’s time to stop.
17.Write it down
Keep a journal - it can be online or an actual book. Writing your thoughts down will help you make sense of your feelings and work through them.
18.Shut down
Take a digital break. Stop spending so much time online and start enjoying your life around you.
19. Take 5 minutes
Make time for yourself every day – 5 minutes is all you need. Just take time to be with yourself.
20.30-Day challenge
Put a thirty-day action plan in place to develop a new habit or reach a goal. Giving yourself a time limit will help you achieve it.
21.   Make a friend
Speak to your neighbours or the office guards and get to know the people around you.
22.Be kind
Kindness never killed anyone, but can change someone’s day; it will change yours for the better.
23.Say goodbye
Do you have a friend that’s always putting you down or complaining? Maybe it’s time to let the friendship go.
24.Commit
You have to commit to the changes you make. Reading and saying it won’t make them happen. Only you can.
When life feels like it’s getting too much, call us on 0861 33 33 56 to book a spa treatment to calm your senses. If you are struggling to get everything done, visit us online and use our services. My Personal Assistant is your 24/7 helpline. We’ll take care of the small things, so you’ll have time for what matters most.

12 Tips to get noticed at work
Tumblr media
Is your New Year’s resolution to do better at work? It’s not always easy to get noticed by your company’s top decision-makers, and unfortunately, they are the ones with the power. The power to give you a promotion, a bonus or an opportunity. Now, the best thing you can do is to work hard, in the sense of delivering quality products on time.
However, here are more tips on how to get noticed by your manager.
1. Ask ‘why’
It takes courage to do this; but asking “why” shows that you’re interested in a task and not just following orders. We’re not saying to question everything you’re told, but ask for clarity and better understanding as it’ll help you see the reason behind certain tasks and even to point out where things can be improved to further the company’s goals.
2. Admit when you don’t know something
Pretending to understand or that you know something, makes you look like a bit of a fool. By asking for clarity or admitting that you don’t have the answer at the time, but you’ll find it, will ultimately improve the product. Your boss is not looking for someone with all the answers, but with the ability to solve problems.
3. Take ownership
Taking responsibility for an entire process or job, will definitely help you stand out. This means stepping up when work is being handed out and accepting the hit when things don’t work out. It also means that you’ll have to motivate and monitor the different steps in the process, as it can be used to monitor your leadership skills.
4. Take initiative
Are there tasks lying around that no one is doing or getting to? When you take on these tasks, you’ll stand out as a team player and prove your loyalty to the company. Remember, your job description is not everything.
5. Speak up
It can be terrifying to speak up in a room full of experienced people, but how will they ever know your worth if you don’t speak up? Ideas are seldom born from one person, but by bouncing options between people. In this way, you can prove your worth in the team and the business as a whole.
6. Don’t play victim
This never counts in your favour, and it’s easy to spot this kind of behaviour. Don’t blame others or your circumstances for your mistakes. Don’t be overtly negative or always complain about things. If there is an issue, speak up ahead of time.
7. Dress code and body language
Pay attention to how you dress and how you address your peers. We’re not saying to call everyone “sir” and “ma’am”, but be respectful. Keep eye contact when you’re speaking to them. And although, your body language is not something you can be called out on, it does get noticed. Also, pay attention to how the people in the company dress and what the dress code demands. It’s ok to play a little outside the rules, but you can’t show up in shorts for a business meeting.
8. Be hungry
You might not get a scholarship through the company, but there are loads of free courses and articles out there. Read up and ask your colleagues to help you or show you things. Find a mentor within the company who can help you grow. At the end of the day, the onus lies with you to develop.
9. Build relationships
Having a relationship network in place at work can make a world of difference. When you need help to fix a mistake or push a job through the system quickly, you rely on relationships. Also remember to broaden your vision, as the relationships you build now can influence you later in life (good and bad).
10. Participate
We’re not saying to get drunk at the office party, in fact don’t, but go out and have fun with your colleagues. Getting to know them more personally, helps you build relationships and break down walls between you. But always remember to keep things professional and not to do things that might reflect badly on you come Monday morning.
11. Balance
It’s important to find a balance between your personal and work life. Now, we understand that it’s not always easy to do, which is why we’re here to help. If you’re constantly running out for personal errands, you’ll look bad; however, if you don’t invest in your own happiness, you’ll be taken advantage of. Speak to My Personal Assistant online or call 0861 33 33 56, and we’ll help you out.
12. Be loyal
Being loyal does not mean working 24/7 and only focussing on the company; it means you have your company’s back. When there is a crisis, you are willing to stay late? Do you confront your managers in public or private? Do you promote the company in a positive light? All these things are noticed and rewarded, so start investing in your company.

Your holiday car checklist
Tumblr media
Before you set out on holiday (or anywhere actually), make sure your car is in tiptop shape. Use our easy guide and your car’s manufacturer’s manual to check that everything is in order, and consider taking your car to a service centre for a 76 point check. Also, remember to ask petrol attendants to check your oil, water and tyre pressure when filling up and to never skip a car service.
So what should be on your car checklist?
Windscreen
Check for cracks or chips. They’re easy to fix when they’re small.
Wipers
Make sure the rubber and mechanics are in good condition.
Liquids
Look in the manufacturer’s guide to ensure that the liquids in your car are filled correctly; also, secure the caps tightly.
Leaks
Is something leaking? Take your car in immediately.
Hooter
Test your hooter – it should be loud and clear
Battery
Make sure your battery is working properly, fitted correctly and that the terminals are clean and fastened.
Lights
All your lights should be working, including those on your trailer or caravan.
Brakes
If something’s weird when you break, take your car in.
Tyres
When checking your tyres’ tread and pressure, also check that your spare tyre is fine.
Seatbelts
Ensure that all the seatbelts in your car are working, even those on the back seat.
Documents
Keep all your documentation updated, e.g. insurance, tracking service, licences, etc.
Extra titbits
Always keep an emergency kit in your car (medical supplies, torch, car cell phone charger, reflective triangle, water, etc.).
We’ll help you find a car service centre, locate parts, and help you in any way you need. If you’re unsure about anything, speak to My Personal Assistant online at www.mypersonalassistant.co.za or call 0861 33 33 56.

Plan the perfect picnic in 10 easy steps
Tumblr media
The sun is shining, the weather is warm, the days are long – the perfect recipe for a summer picnic. We give you ten tips to help you plan your next picnic.
Picnic blanket. Get something bright and colourful that is big enough to accommodate everyone. If it’s slightly damp on the grass, use a ground cover or vinyl tablecloth underneath.
Cooler box. Be sure to use plenty of ice packs to keep everything chilled or freeze bottles of water overnight so that you have cool water to drink once it melts.
Picnic basket. A wicker basket is perfect for all your picnic goodies but you can also pack all your utensils and glasses in a cardboard box, large bag or backpack.
Ice cubes. Keep your ice in a thermos flask to stop them melting, this way you’ll have ice blocks for your drinks.
Plates. Using real plates is so much more enjoyable than disposable plates, which tend to get soggy when you put food on them. You’ll also helping to save the environment.
Wet wipes. Picnics get messy, so you’ll want to ensure that you have something available to clean those greasy, sticky fingers.
Rubbish bags. Be sure that you tidy up before you leave – taking all your rubbish with you if there are no bins close by.
Music. A little background music can help you set the mood, just be considerate if there are other picnickers around you and don’t play your music too loud.
Extras. Don’t forget sunscreen, hats and umbrellas. If you want a few activities bring books, a Frisbee or games to keep you entertained.
Food. This is the fun bit, where you get to pick and pack your favourite finger foods. Depending what you fancy you can go from budget to gourmet – just make it delicious.
Want to know the best picnic spots close to where you live? Looking for a list of the perfect picnic foods to make? How about the number of a company that prepares your picnic basket on your behalf? Just call My Personal Assistant today on 0861 33 33 56 – we’re here to help!

Grow veggies for (almost) free
Tumblr media
Even if you don’t have green fingers, there are plenty of reasons to start a veggie garden:
It’s good for you, body and soul, to get out (or indoors) with nature.
When you harvest your produce, you can save money.
You’ll try new things.
It’s an activity where the whole family can get involved.
You’ll burn calories without doing “exercise”.
And many, many more reasons.
All you need to kick-start your veggie garden is water, a little space, containers, soil and kitchen scraps. And time. So before you dump your veggie scraps in the bin, stop and help them regrow.
Lettuce
Tumblr media
Use the cut-off stem of the lettuce you used for salad, put it in a small bowl with water and place the bowl in a sunny area. Replace the water daily. Once leaves start sprouting and roots start forming, you can plant it in soil (either the garden or a pot). You don’t have to repot them, only if you want the plant to grow bigger.
Ginger
Tumblr media
Love your ginger tea or do you often cook with it? The next time you buy fresh ginger, break off a piece and place it in a pot with potting soil (smallest buds pointing down) and in indirect sunlight. The ginger will grow new shoots. When you are ready to harvest it, pull out the entire plant (roots and all), break off a rhizome and start again.
Pineapple
Tumblr media
The embodiment of summer. And you can grow it in your own home – how awesome is that? Just be warned, it can take up to two years for a regrown pineapple to bear fruit.
So once you’ve committed yourself to this project, choose a pineapple with fresh leaves. Break or cut off the top – just be sure that you leave enough of the base as this is what’s needed to grow roots. Peel back some of the bottom leaves to ensure bottom layer is exposed and cut away the fruit part.
Place the pineapple in a container with water, making sure that the pineapple base is only just covered, and in the sun. Remember to change the water every few days. Once the roots grow and the leaves grow longer and wider (it should be about a week), move it to a pot or the garden. Make sure it gets plenty of sun and water it regularly. Now just wait.
Basil
Tumblr media
The magical herb that takes pasta (or gin and tonic) to new heights. The next time you stare at the herb rack at the shop, add a bunch of basil to your cart. Take a piece that’s about 10 cm long and strip most of the leaves off. Put the stems in a glass of water and in a sunny area that’s not too hot. Change the water every day.
When the roots are about 5 cm long, replant them in a pot or the garden. Make sure they get at least 6 hours sun a day and water them regularly. When you harvest them, make sure that you don’t pick all the leaves, as they need them to grow.
Watch this Taste video for more great ideas on how to regrow your kitchen scraps.
Speak to us about all your garden needs – negotiating garden services to finding a red cucumber plant; we do it all. Call 0861 33 33 56 or visit My Personal Assistant.

7 Quick DIY projects you’ll love
Tumblr media
We’re always keeping our eyes open for ways to improve our homes and lives; and if those ideas are easy and inexpensive, how can we keep them to ourselves?
It can be cooking, gardening, cleaning, anything, but when we create things or improve a situation, we always feel better about, not only life, but also ourselves. DIY projects are perfect as (even if you don’t get it completely right) you can complete something and add value to your home or life. Better yet, these ideas we’re sharing won’t take too long to complete, they are easy to do and they are affordable – just as you’d expect from My Personal Assistant.
So without further ado, here is our list of seven must-do DIY projects.
1.       Glam fridge magnets
Tumblr media
Do you still have your kids’ old alphabet-letter magnets? Now let’s glam them up. Buy a metallic spray paint and a plastic primer, put the letters on a newspapered surface (we’d do this outside), coat them twice (both sides) with the primer and then twice (both sides) with the coloured spray paint. Remember to let them dry between the coats. And that is it.
2.       Cute thumbtacks
Tumblr media
Collect all the buttons lying around in your house (we all have a button bag, filled with spare buttons of shirts we no longer own) and glue them to metallic thumbtacks. Alternatively, you can buy an assortment of buttons from your local material shop.
3.       Earphone (cable) holders
Tumblr media
All you need – glue, clothes pegs and decoration ideas. Glue two clothes pegs together, facing opposite directions, and decorate them as you like. Put the one end of your cable in the mouth, wind up the cable around the tails and put the last bit of cable in the empty mouth.
4.       Delightful candle holders
Tumblr media
Fill a small bowl with roasted coffee beans and pop in a tea light candle, now all that’s left is lighting it and enjoying the amazing smell.
5.       Doggy bed
Tumblr media
Take an unwanted sweater and stitch the body off from the arms and neck. Remember to stitch the neck shut – big, rustic stitches are perfect. Stuff the “body” and the “arm-loop” with towels and/or pillows to create a soft surface. Pull one sleeve over the other, so it looks as if the arms are hugging the belly and stitch the top sleeve in place.
6.       Key identifier
Tumblr media
Are you always struggling to find the right key when you’re unlocking the door? Paint the handle of each key and the keyhole with corresponding nail polish colours.
7.       Tree paintings
Tumblr media
Paint tree branches on white paper or linen, dip empty cool drink bottles (big or small – depending on what you want to do) and press them on the branches. Voila, you’ve created a beautiful painting or wrapping paper.
Whether you need ideas on what to do, assistance with getting it done or someone to locate and negotiate the items you need (even if you’d rather buy it than DIY), call 0861 33 33 56 or visit My Personal Assistant and tell us what you’d like to do.

Small changes leading to big improvements. Part 2
Tumblr media
Sometimes all that’s needed to improve things is a small change. Sometimes the smallest thing can be the catalyst that leads to the biggest impact on your life.
Making changes is never easy, which is why My Personal Assistant is here to help you. Anything you need advice on or assistance with, we’re here. Hence, to put our money where our mouths are we’ve found 15 tiny daily things you can change that will have an immense effect on your work, home, environment and neighbourhood.
Work
When you feel like complaining, laugh. Laughter lifts your mood and spreads joy, while when you complain you’re spreading negativity. Also, generally when we complain, it’s not to someone who can change things.
Find happy moments. It’s easier to get out of bed and face the day if there is something to look forward to. So create happy work moments for yourself. It can be coffee with a friend, a divine snack, anything
Take breaks. This might sound counterproductive, especially if you have a packed day to get through, but taking small breaks, away from your desk, is good for your body and mind.
Take account of your day. Before you shut down for the day, list everything you’ve completed and everything you couldn’t get to as well as what prevented you from doing so. Don’t beat yourself up for not getting to everything, just take note of how much you’ve actually done.
Choose at least one hour per day and switch off all notifications. These message-“pings” can cost you up to 40% of your daily productivity.
Home
Take 20 minutes. Feeling unproductive? Before you veg out on the couch take 20 minutes to do something – wash the dishes, read a book, gym, call a friend. It usually takes about 20 minutes to complete a task.
Check your taps and appliances. Making sure everything is unplugged and that your taps are properly closed can save you a lot of money.
Make your bed every morning. It sets up your whole day and is the first task you can cross off your to-do list. Also, your room will immediately look neater.
Keep a cleaning journal. A simple list where you can tick off small tasks that need to be done regularly, such as wiping the counters. Best of all, if you’ve completed all your tasks for the week, you should reward yourself.
Leave your phone outside the bedroom. Invest in a proper alarm clock and charge your phone elsewhere. It’s tempting to play on and read your emails, and it will keep you up.
Neighbourhood & Environment
When you go for your daily walk outside, take a rubbish bag (and gloves – you don’t know where what’s been) with you and pick up the trash decorating your neighbourhood.
Volunteer. Spend time at your local animal shelter, nursing home, school or library. You don’t have to overcommit, an hour a week is all it takes to make a difference.
Greet and meet your neighbours. You see each other every day, isn’t it time to learn each other’s names?
Buy locally. Not only are you supporting your local farmers, but you’re doing something good for the environment.
Recycle. There are bins at most major retailers, and you are doing the world of good for the world.
It doesn’t matter if you’re looking for a charity shop to donate old clothes to, a bus to hire to take your local preschool on a trip or someone to paint your house, tell us and we will find your solution. Call 0861 33 33 56 or visit mypersonalassistant.co.za to speak to My Personal Assistant.

Small changes leading to big improvements. Part 1
Tumblr media
Making changes to your life can be incredibly difficult, we know; which is why we’re here to help you do it.
The rule of thumb to implement any change in your life is to break it down into smaller pieces – walking over a small incline is easier than climbing a mountain. With that being said, My Personal Assistant found 15 tiny things you can change in your everyday life today that will have a huge impact on your soul, health, and relationships.
Soul
Enjoy the silence. Take a couple of minutes every day to enjoy the quietness. You don’t have to meditate, you can sit in your car for a bit before you leave for work, but don’t say or do anything; just sit and breathe.
Keep art supplies on your desk, when you’re getting stuck on something or your brain needs a break, reach out and doodle a little. Best yet, change the medium every month, for example colour pencils to pastels.
Be grateful. Say thank you (and mean it) every day. Take note of all the things people do for you and thank them for it. You can even create a gratitude diary, wherein you write three things you’re grateful for on the day.
Practice a brain dump. At the end of the day, before you switch off the light and go to sleep, write down everything that’s on your mind. Only for a couple of minutes. Jot it all down as you think, it doesn’t have to make any sense. It’s been found that a regular brain dump aids people suffering from anxiety and depression.
Go outside. Every day. Being outside will improve your mood, activity and vitamin D levels.
Health
The first thing you should do when you wake up is drink a glass of water. This will help flush toxins out of your system and wake you up.
Add raw fruit and/or veg to every meal. Something as simple as a side salad with dinner or an apple with breakfast. This will increase your nutrient and fibre intake, which leads to more energy and decrease hung.
Park as far as you can. Walking a couple of steps more every time you go out, will help you fight your sedentary ways.
Don’t get distracted while you’re eating. If you get distracted, you’ll end up eating more. Hence, don’t eat in front of the TV or even while reading a book, rather sit at a table with your family (or by yourself and just enjoy your meal).
Keep a food diary. This will not only help you gain a better perspective of what you’re eating, but it’ll also help you scale down on portion size and make better food choices.
Relationships
Send a text or email to or call a friend/loved one every day. Something small to build and strengthen your relationships.
Stop putting work first. Ensure that the people in your life know how important they are to you.
Go to bed at the same time, even if you lie in bed with your partner until they drift off to sleep. Never underestimate the power of pillow talk.
Take a moment before you respond. Make sure you listen to everything the person is saying to you, and don’t start thinking of a response while they are speaking. In this way, you’ll demonstrate respect and keep from blowing up at the person and ruin the relationship.
Compliment them. Focus on all their good qualities and point it out to them, tell your loved ones when they make you proud and happy.
My Personal Assistant is here for you. We are ready to assist you make changes to your life – big or small. All you need to do is contact us on 0861 33 33 56 or chat to us online, and we will find a solution for you.

How to simplify your life as an entrepreneur
Tumblr media
Starting your own business is incredibly difficult – you think of a million things that should be done, and the more you do, the more crawl out of the woodwork. Does it feel like every day is a struggle and as if you have less time now than ever before? Stop. Take a deep, slow breath. Read our advice on how to simplify your life as an entrepreneur and then call My Personal Assistant to complete your to-do list.
Here follows out tips on what you should do.
1.       Let go of perfection. You are only causing yourself more (and unnecessary) stress.
2.       When you’re in your down time, turn off the phone. Sure, you’ll put in extra hours to build your business, but you need to make time for your loved ones too (that includes you).
3.       Stop holding on to past mistakes. Learn from them and move on. You have a lot happening in your life, do you really need the extra baggage?
4.       Fine tune your focus and stop squirrelling (this is when everything and everything distracts you). Complete one task before you move on to the next.
5.       Find help. There is no need for you to do everything – why be CEO, CFO and administrator? You are not trained in all these fields, ask experts to advise and assist.
6.       Plan your day. Yes, there will be curveballs, but if you know what the main things are that should be completed, chances are you’ll get it done. Also, remember to be realistic about what you can do in your day.
7.       Eat your veggies. What we mean is, start with the most daunting task first and get it out of the way.
8.       Listen to music that helps you concentrate. In some cases, it’s even shown that background music can help you finish tasks faster.
9.       Create an alter ego. This might sound silly, but let her deal with all your complicated tasks.
10.   Say no. Whether it’s a client you struggle to work with or a job you know you won’t be able to complete, just say no.
11.   Keep track of your health. How often do you skip a meal or opt for an unhealthy option? Do you skip exercise sessions or cut back on sleep? Stop. By taking care of your body and soul, you’ll be able to do more.
You are never alone. We’re ready to assist with practically anything you need. Helping your children with their homework, finding a car that suits your lifestyle, booking lunch meetings, providing financial and/or legal advice, assisting you during emergencies or booking me time, we do it all. Simply call 0861 33 33 56 or chat to us online, and consider it done.

Turn around your bad work day in 8 steps
Tumblr media
Everyone has had a day when you just want to go back to bed and start over again. Did you miss the bus? Spill coffee on your new jacket? Have a fight with your partner? Miss a work deadline? All on the same day!
It’s okay to have a bad day but you can’t leave work to go home, and you can’t let your mood affect the entire office, so follow these easy steps to help you deal with a distressing day.
1.       It’s not personal
Life isn’t out to get you – bad days happen to everyone. If you’re on the receiving end of a work colleague’s horrid mood, don’t internalise their anger. It’s not personal and it probably has nothing to do with you.
2.       Admit it
Tell your colleagues you’re feeling irritable or grumpy (although they can probably see it!) and they’ll either steer clear and give you a bit of space, or try to make you laugh and get you out of the bad mood. When you admit how you’re feeling, it gives you some perspective and you may realise you’re overreacting. Being aware of your mood will help you regain control.
3.       Get it out of your system
If you need to vent, then find a trusted colleague or phone a friend, family member or partner, and let it all out. Sometimes you need to have a good moan so you can put it behind you, but give yourself 15 minutes and then get on with the day. If this doesn’t work for you, take those 15 minutes and go for a walk to clear your head, be alone and calm down.
4.       Have a timeout
If you need to reset your day, take a short break to watch a few funny videos on YouTube or put on your earphones and listen to your favourite music. This will help get your mind off all that has gone wrong and it’ll give you a chance to regroup.
5.       Meet deadlines
You can’t let your day grind to a halt because you’re unhappy – deadlines don’t disappear. Start by doing a small job that doesn’t require too much thought and once you’re ticked it off your to-do list, you’ll immediately feel more productive and more in control. Then move on to bigger tasks.
6.       Evaluate
No one wants a bad day to turn into a bad week, so take a moment to reflect and think about what went wrong. Was it a mistake you made? Was it something out of your control? Did something happen in your personal life? Be proactive and make sure you change what you can (or learn from the mistake) so that it doesn’t happen again.
7.       Leave it at work
It’s very easy to take your bad mood with you after work, but this isn’t fair to anyone waiting for you at home. Deal with the day and when you leave the office, leave the stress behind. When you get home rather focus on doing something fun or relaxing, to brighten your mood.
8.       Count your blessings
Bad days happen - deal with it! The responsibility for this is in your hands, so remember the big picture and be grateful for what you already have. Keep telling yourself that it’s just one bad day – tomorrow will be better. And really mean it. J
Need to bounce back from an off day? How about watching a movie (for 50% off), treating yourself to a pamper session (with a 50% discount), eating out (for R100 less) or booking an affordable weekend away. Call My Personal Assistant today on 0861 33 33 56 - we can’t do a happy dance for you but we can help you turn that bad day around.

Love thyself – it’s time
Tumblr media
We all want to be better people, and we strive to treat each other decently, but have you ever taken the time to see how you treat yourself? Yes, it’s important to want to grow and improve who you are, but you should also remember to give yourself breathing room.
Here’s advice on how you can be a better friend to you. You probably already know all of this, but sometimes in life, we need to hear these things from someone else.
1.       Compliment yourself
Look at everything you’ve accomplished so far. It might sound silly, but each and every one of us does exceptional things every day (even if it’s just getting all your kids to bed on time). Take note of all the good things you achieve and praise yourself for it.
2.       Choose you
It’s amazing that people can always rely on you, and that you are ready to jump whenever someone needs something; however, it’s important that you take time for yourself. It’s OK to say “no” to others and “yes” to yourself. If you are always there for others, and never have time or energy for yourself or the things you want, you might start resenting them.
3.       Stop comparing and judging
It’s true, the grass is always greener on the other side, that is, until you get there. Nobody is perfect; sure, from the outside, it might look like your neighbour has it all figured out – we assure you she doesn’t. Learn to accept who you are and what you have, and leave others to their devices.
4.       Be kind to yourself
You allow others to make mistakes. So, why can’t you? Give yourself room to be human, to fail and make errors. Be understanding of the challenges you face and how hard you’ve tried – it is the first step to truly loving yourself.
5.       Say “so long” to guilt, fear and worry
Stop beating yourself up every time you have to turn someone down or if you just didn’t have time to complete a task – a day only has 24 hours, and you are just one person. Also, and we know this one is hard, but stop fearing and worrying about what you can’t control – just do what you can, life has a way of working out.

Celebrating all the mothers in your life
Tumblr media
Some are kissing mothers and some are scolding mothers, but it is love just the same, and most mothers kiss and scold together.
Pearl S. Buck
Mother’s Day is right around the corner, and there are so many reasons to celebrate who they are and what they do for us. They influence and shape the people we become. But it’s important to remember the other mother figures in our lives as well. Here, at My Personal Assistant, we thought about all the other mother figures in our lives that should be celebrated, let us know if you agree.
Grandmother
A grandmother is a remarkable woman. She's a wonderful combination of warmth and kindness, laughter and love. She overlooks our faults, encourages our dreams, and praises our every success.
Author Unknown
Our grandmothers are like our mothers, but not as strict. They are blind to our faults and embrace our strengths. They have that special sweetie jar on the top shelf in the kitchen and give the best hugs. It doesn’t matter how bad your day was, grandmothers have this magical power to make you feel better.
Aunt
An aunt is a safe haven for a child. Someone who will keep your secrets and is always on your side.
Sara Sheridan
Our aunts are always there to talk to, especially if it’s about something you’re too uncomfortable to speak to your mother about. They are always supportive, even if they aren’t blind to your faults, they see past them. They are encouraging and a barrel of fun.
Sister
Sweet, crazy conversations full of half sentences, daydreams and misunderstandings more thrilling than understanding could ever be. Toni Morrison
Sisters, what can we say? We fight, we laugh, we cry, and if ever there is anyone that will accept you (even if they don’t understand you), it’s your sister. Sisters will exploit your faults more than anyone else in the world, but heavens protect the soul who dares mistreat you.
From organising special meals and finding perfect gifts, to booking a magical experience My Personal Assistant is here to assist. We will ensure that you treat the special people in your life to the fullest, without it costing you an arm and a leg. All you need to do is call us on 0861 33 33 56 or chat to us online, and tell us about the person you want to spoil.
