Before her, I had one toothbrush where there are now two. My wardrobe has been replaced with hoodies that don’t belong to me, hats that she decided to wear out, and socks that somehow made it to her bedroom floor instead of mine. My passenger seat has been moved to her exact liking, and my back seat has miscellaneous items in it that everyone knows do not belong to me. Before her, music didn’t make me think of people, but now she’s all I think about when those cute lyrics are heard. There’s a second pillow on my bed where there use to be nothing. Half pieces of gum (because she thinks the whole piece is too much) are left in the packages. I no longer buy cherry Chapstick because someone doesn’t like that flavor. My taste in food has began to change, like dill pickle chips that I use to hate but she managed to get me to like them. I always wake up with a cup of water next to my bed because she gets thirsty before bed. Before her I wouldn’t wear my glasses much but she tells me she likes them, and that’s all I really care about. And now the 18th of every month is a reminder of something beautiful I gained. She has made all of these little things big things.

It hurts because she is my person. She is my go to. She is the first person I call when something good or bad happens. She is the person I’d run to if my mother died or if I wanted to kill myself. She is the first person I’d go to if I aced my final and found 20 dollars in the parking lot. She is someone I see sharing long car rides with, with my kids and we ditch our significant others for the weekend. She is the person who will hold me when someone breaks my heart because she will remember how it felt to have hers broken. She is the person who will push me when I think I can’t succeed. She is the person who wakes up for work at 8am and texts me 25 times before I even wake up. She’s the person I want to blow my phone up. She’s the person who tells me every little thing she learned in class that day. And she’s the person i roll my eyes out, turn my head and bite my lip cause she’s low-key a nerd but my favorite nerd. She is my first love. She is my best friend. She is my soulmate. It’s not romantic, it’s unconditional. She is the person I don’t want to ever lose. I could go a few hours without talking to her and I would miss her. I would miss the random facts she feeds me. I would miss her jumping on top of me to annoy me. I would miss the way she scrunches her face up when she gets mad at me. I would rather fight with her every day than not have her at all. And that is why she’s it. She is my person. And with every fiber of my being, with me and her against the world. Times two. I love her.
